This is an absolutely amazing school making remarkable strides in one of the lowest performing districts in Maricopa County. The leadership is engergizing, knowledgeable and most importantly interested in making a difference in the lifes of children. If I had school aged children, I would send them to this school.
I have seen firsthand the kids learning in this excellent environment. The kids may have some challenges in their life, but when they get to school, there is food to keep them focused, and teachers who care about them. This kind of focused education is exactly what they need. The teachers are motivated and excited about what they are accomplishing. They are filling an unmet need in the community and the kids are thriving... they just need more suppport!
An incredible achievement of taking an old bowling alley in an older, economically-challenged Phoenix area and converting it into a school where local children can expand their opportunities including the realistic long-term goal of achieving a college education.
PCA is a great school that is putting college front and center in front of a population whose parents' didn't have that option. The school does amazing work with limited resources, and it is an inspiring story.
PCA is an amazing school that I had the privilege of serving as a founding board member. Rachel leads the school with her passion, enthusiasm, and rigor- and she is a true inspiration to all those around her. The students of PCA show the same qualities as their leader; they strive to achieve and ultimately go to college, a dream that may have seemed unattainable before PCA.
I have been involved with education organizations for several years now and came to know PCA through those associations. I am continuously inspired and energized by the fabulous work being done by the PCA staff. The goals are ambitious - preparing every student to complete college and be successful leaders and contributors in their community! This is a daunting task for most schools in a high needs area, but PCA is taking it on with enthusiasm, determination and a terrific game plan...and it is working! This is a testament to what is possible...all organizations should be run with this kind of creativity, focus, collaboration, excellence and energy.
Phoenix Collegiate Academy is an amazing place where students in the South Phoenix area have an opportunity to truly reach their potential. With a dedicated and determined staff of teachers (all are alums of the TeachForAmerica program) and an Executive Director that has both long-term vision and the ability to get things done at all levels, PCA is a charter-school success story like few others.
PCA is a charter school which takes any child who wants to work hard in order to be well prepared for college. Most of the students have family support but no family member who has graduated from college. These students haven't learned how to study and have gaps in their education. PCA teachers find each students weak area and help the student gain confidence while learning
PCA is a new (this is its second year) charter school in South Phoenix. It's motto is "A seamless path to college". PCA is located in the heart of the lowest economic area in Phoenix - the school is almost 100% minority students who haven't had the best educational experience to date. Now they have PCA as an option....and what a difference. In one year the reading, math and language skills jumped more than anyone expected. This school is offering these students opportunities to succeed and be leaders in their community. Hats off to the dedicated staff - they are a terrific bunch of really hardworking teachers and administrators.
PCA is cultivating future leaders in the South Mountain community in Phoenix, AZ. It's preparing students for college using the power of high expectations. PCA offers students dedicated teachers, a longer school day, the academic support students need, and a lot of extras for students compared to other nearby schools.
