Causes: Education, Secondary & High Schools
Mission: The peace & justice academy provides a rigorous college preparatory education and unique electives from a christian peacemaking tradition to students in grades six to twelve. Students are nurtured in a safe, caring community in which they are awakened to the realities and challenges that will face them as adults, and prepared to stand for justice, wage peace, and impact the world.
Programs: Students excelled at college preparatory coursework that met or exceededcalifornia state standards in english, math, science, social studies, and p. E. Students received instruction in the defensive martial art of aikido. Electives included restorative justice (conflict resolution), media literacy, theater arts and experiential workshops out in the community called peace & justice labs. Students reached out to the community, both in service projects like feeding the homeless, and in investigating the causes of homelessness, poverty, and need andwhat we might do to reduce these problems. Looking globally, students raised moneyto fund a total of 60 micro-finance loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries around the world. Students participated in a digital classroom providing laptop computers for all students, and integrating word processing, spread sheets, and internet researchthroughout the curriculum. Students became fully proficient in using power pointto make classroom presentations to their peers.
