Mission: Original music workshop, dba national sawdust, an artist-led non-profit venue, is a place for exploration and discovery, a place where emerging and established artists can share their music with serious music fans and casual listeners alike.
Programs: The main accomplishment of the fye 8/31/17 was the production and presentation of 323 musical and multimedia events that were attended by 23,256 people. These productions were the result of multiple programs being developed by omw dba national sawdust --a master curator's series, artist and group residencies, summer labs, educational internships, and successful partnerships with other arts organizations. Most of the performances were presented in the national sawdust building, a state of the art music venue constructed within the renovated shell of a 100 year old sawdust factory in williamsburg, brooklyn. National sawdust also produced 12 concerts in the community, reaching approximately 6000 people.
national sawdust is also developing programs to educate artists in areas that include and expand beyond the artistic production and creation process, helping the artists to become savvy entrepreneurs, managers, collaborators and communicators. Residencies ("summer labs" programs), ns internships (10 weeks of shadowing key staff members to learn arts administration), next steps mentorships, and other programs being developed in partnership with various organizations, will prepare artists for enriching, well rounded, sustainable careers. The related expenses are included with the first program statement.
