Several years ago I discovered Hosh yoga classes right around the corner from my home. What a gift!...the close proximity, the affordable class fee, the welcoming, skilled teachers all made my initiation to a yoga practice my own personal "perfect storm." Over the years, though, the challenge for me has been keeping consistent. Each and every time that I returned to Hosh, after a gap in practicing, I was always amazed at two things. One, that there were always improvements and changes...whether it was improvements to the physical space, different classes, workshops, teacher training(!) or various social gatherings and two, what even amazed me more, was that I would approach a class after a gap with some uneasiness and maybe some reluctance and as soon as I entered the door I would smell lavendar...I would get settled on my mat ....and it would feel like....aaahhh...what took you so long? Hosh has a special feeling about it...you are welcomed, supported and encouraged by dedicated teachers and staff. It's my secret home away from home....Thank you Hosh!
Hosh Yoga is among the most beautiful things in Greenpoint. Full of welcoming, friendly faces, Hosh makes yoga (and the peace of mind and health that follow) accessible and affordable to all who are interested—regardless of income level or experience. This is an amazing organization that aims to—and already does—bring happiness and well being to the neighborhood.
Hosh Yoga serves the community by offering yoga classes by donation. Unlike similar non-profits, they make you feel totally welcome. While the level of the classes may not be the most advanced, each instructor I have taken classes with there has been wonderful, and each class has been a great experience.
Hosh Yoga is a fantastic community yoga studio. Most pay-what-you-wish studios are very large, with very little teacher-student interaction. Hosh's classes are maximum 20 people. Their teachers are above average, some are extremely knowledgable. Hosh also serves are a community center, with monthly events.
Hosh keeps adding classes and workshops-- they keep getting better and better! I can't tell you how NEEDED a good donation-based studio is in Brooklyn.
I have had great experiences at Hosh Yoga. As a recent transplant to the Greenpoint area, I'd been at a bit of a loss as to which yoga studio I should attend. Hosh is clean, the instructors are welcoming, and the classes are not overcrowded. The instructor genuinely care about how you are feeling that day. The level of instruction was superb, and I always feel wonderful when I leave class. The pay-what-you-can scheme is incredible. I would not be able to afford yoga classes at a conventional studio. I wish Hosh all the best.
Hosh is such an amazing place that brings our community together. Offering affordable yoga for anyone who wants to practice is a great way to spread the benefits of a yoga practice. Any day I want to practice yoga, there are classes I can fit into my schedule. It has really helped me stay with my yoga practice despite being laid off this past year. The different class choices allows me to grow with my practice. I also never get bored with a teacher because I have many to choose from.
While my roommates friends from England were visiting i took them to a class. They thoroughly enjoyed their American yoga experience!
I also think telling people that I practice at a non profit yoga studio where all the teachers donate their time, and classes are donation based makes people want to check the place out. I think they are less intimidated about coming to Hosh because of it's message and pricing, than other for-profit studios.
I feel good about contributing to Hosh because by donating and practicing there I'm not only doing something beneficial for myself I feel I am also helping out the community and encouraging others to start a healthy practice.
Hosh Yoga is a welcoming community space with a staff of skilled and caring instructors that volunteer their time to help their fellow yogis strengthen their practices. The staff is constantly trying to educate the students with new classes and workshops.
Hosh is such a wonderful addition to my neighborhood. They are truly living up to their mission to make yoga accessible to anyone. The By Donation model is embraced by every teacher - they are never watching who contributes, and they welcome everyone. I am impressed at how many classes they offer, the quality of the teachers, and the cleanliness and warmth of the space.
Great studio with warm and welcoming feel. The teachers and other practitioners are very friendly and caring.
Everything yoga is SUPPOSED to be, this is where I got my start for yoga. Terrific people and a great location, if you're in the Brooklyn area, definitely check this out
I can't say enough good things about this amazing studio. From the pay- what- you- wish aspect to the incredibly passionate, supportive and knowledgeable teachers combined with the inviting and warm class setting, this studio is truly a find!
I've practiced at quite a few studios in the past and I immediately knew after my first class experience HOSH was very special. All of the teachers are very well trained and attentive to each student's needs. They emphasize practicing your asana at your own pace according to your own breath. The class schedule is super convenient and constantly expanding. You really can't get any get any better in my opinion.
This place is really picking up. The modest space mentioned has been getting some simple additions that aid in the meditative and relaxing quality of their practice. Their teachers seem to continue their explorations into yoga and pass along discoveries willingly and gratefully. Instruction is balanced between vigorous, challenging, and quiet poses, pacing, and meditation. I recommend a few sessions as their teacher rotation seems less routine and each has their own perspective complementing a broad experience in yoga.
