The Conversation Project: A New Chautauqua offers Oregon nonprofits free programs that engage community members in thoughtful, challenging conversations about ideas critical to our daily lives and our state’s future. Think & Drink is a happy-hour conversation series that brings Portlanders together to discuss provocative ideas. Teacher Institutes offer Oregon secondary-school teachers opportunities for in-depth study on topics that are intellectually rich and directly related to their work in the classroom Happy Camp is a summer honors symposium for bright, ambitious, curious Oregon teens who use the humanities to consider the pursuit of happiness and how it shapes our culture. Humanity in Perspective (HIP) is a college-level humanities course offered in Portland and Salem. HIP provides economically and educationally disadvantaged individuals the opportunity to study the humanities with the guidance of Reed College and Willamette University professors. Oregon Humanities magazine is a thought-provoking publication devoted to exploring important and timely topics from a variety of perspectives and stimulating reflection and public conversation. Public Program Grants provide financial support for nonprofit organizations across Oregon to conceive and implement public humanities programs. Responsive Program Grants support organizations that respond quickly and thoughtfully to current issues and events shaping our world. Oregon Humanities also convenes reading and discussion groups, and hosts panel presentations on topics of public relevance and concern.
