The CCA executes flawlessly on it's stated mission of providing moments of joy to kids and families undergoing staggering medical hardships. Their programs are innovative and effective, and they continue to push to expand so they can bring joy to more kids in more places . I feel honored to support their work.

No other non-profit is as innovative and impactful as the Children's cancer Association. Founded with the mission of bringing Joy to kids and families battling life threatening illness, their programs are deeply impactful and inspiring. Imagine yourself in a place no one wants to be, a hospital room with a sick child, with all the associated fears and hopelessness, and then a knock on the door, and in walks a friendly face in a purple shirt, bringing smiles, music, toys and joy. With the CCA, this happens every day, and as they continue to grow will reach more kiddos in need all across the country.
I volunteered for my first event, helping with setup for the Wonderball fundraiser at the Portland Art Museum. The people at JoyRx are such positive and wonderful individuals. The other volunteers were great as well. I'm looking forward to my next opportunity to help this amazing organization!
I have been on the Board for over 10 years and CCA has been a part of my families life for over 20. That likely says more than any other words I could share...

I have had many experiences with CCA from many different perspectives, including through friends who needed CCA's service. Every instance, without ANY exception, CCA has always come through not only as a world class non-profit organization but they do so with amazing empathy. Whether someone is interested in volunteer work, working within a non-profit organization, and/or in the need of CCA's service, there is no one better...
My family was served by JoyRx after our 2 year old daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Hearing that Music Rx cart rattle down the hallway brought a smile to her face. She loved shaking a maraca along with the musicians. And when she was in Intensive Care, the soothing sound of the harp would drown out the beeps of the machines.
I'm now proud to be a Board Member and do my small part in sharing that same joy with other families. I'm constantly impressed by the hard work and dedication of the staff as they bring joy to seriously ill children and their families.
The dedication of the team members and Board of Directors to JoyRx's mission is unwavering. The tangible impact on children and families affected by life-threatening illness continues to drive this team to greatness.
JoyRX's mission is to bring Joy to children suffering from cancer and other chronic conditions. Through one-on-one bedside mentors, music specialists who bring music to the bedside, and digital live music performances, JoyRx reaches kids who crave to be seen as their whole selves. The JoyRx volunteers bond with their kids in authentic ways that allow the kids to feel seen--music and companionship are JoyRx's languages of love.. I recently met a 19 year-old man who is in remission from his childhood cancer and when he learned that I was on the Board of JoyRx gave me a big warm smile and proceeded to tell me about his JoyRx mentor and hoped that I knew him personally. He told me in the gentlest of ways how his mentor spent hours at this bedside teaching him games and how much this meant to him. He described how his mentor showed up for him during the difficult times and reminded him that he was more than his cancer.
JoyRx shows up when life gets lonely and scary for kids and their families. They bring Joy through music, mentorship, and opportunities for family weekend retreats in nature. Their mission is steeped in valuing the benefits of Joy.-- and companionship during these dark times. One memorable statement I heard a graduate say was that JoyRx saw him as the kid he knew himself to be when his friends and family seemed suddenly to see him just as a sick kid. This special relationship gave him the outlet he desperately needed to remember who he was despite his new diagnosis. JoyRx shows up and provides moments of Joy and friendship to seriously sick kids and by doing so bring relief and comfort to their families.

This inspiring nonprofit celebrates children's need for Joy and delivers this Joy to kids suffering from serious illnesses through in hospital music and mentoring. They transform hospital stays to meet the mood and needs of the patient, working to quiet anxiety and fear. These "normal" interactions remind the kids and their families that they are more than their disease. The CCA teams work magic for the kids and stand with them throughout their journey with cancer and other serious illnesses.
I have the honor of being able to work with Joy RX and play my guitar and sing at Randall's Children's Hospital at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital. I am hoping that what I do can take someone's mind off of the traumas that may be occurring in their world - for maybe just a minute.
I am very proud to be a small part of this group of people that give so much of their time, care, and emotion to others. The thing that I love about working with these folks is their positive attitude, and their overwhelming concern for other people.

As a Child Life Specialist, part of my job is to normalize the hospital for children and families, and make it a comfortable, non-scary place. One of the ways I do this is through music, and specifically partnering with JoyRX to provide music to patients and families. I have witnessed firsthand how impactful the musicians are. They build rapport with children and help make the hospital a safe space. I have patients who look forward to playing music with JoyRX every week, and have had parents tell me how helpful the music is when their child is in pain during an infusion. JoyRX is invaluable, and the support they provide to Child Life Specialists, as well as patients and families in the hospital, makes a difference in their care. I am so grateful to work with them!
I truly believe Joy heals. And that is exactly what the Children's Cancer Association is all about. I cannot say enough about this amazing foundation and the healing power it brings to children, teenagers and their families during the toughest times of their lives. Through music, mentorship and nature, children and teenagers get a reprieve from their stress and get a chance to focus on smiling and having fun . Simply put: Joy makes sick kids feel better.
My mom has been a pediatric oncology nurse all of my life, and with each sick child I met, I longed to be able to do even the smallest thing to bring a little joy to their lives. … And then the world brought me to CCA. Immediately, I saw the hope, the happiness and the joy that this beautiful organization brings to children and their families during the hardest of times. The Joy Effect is simple, but incredibly powerful. It’s about the small moments that make an extraordinary impact. I am honored to be here and am committed to working together with this remarkable team to prescribe as much joy as we possibly can, everywhere.
I've been volunteering for JoyRx/Children's Cancer Association as a Chemo Pal mentor since 2007. During that time I've had the amazing opportunity to be paired with 7 incredible children as they have battled life threatening illness. During this time, my buddies and I have spent many hours in the hospital setting doing everything from building Legos, playing board games, reading books, and playing video games. Sometimes, if the opportunity arises, we have been provided tickets to Portland Trail Blazer games, miniature golf outings, baseball games, and other fun events.
In my time at Joy Rx, I've laughed, cried, sung, and danced. But above all, I've witnessed the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of joy. Working with this company is an experience I will carry with me always, a constant reminder that amidst the harshest challenges, joy can be found, and it can indeed heal. The memories that I have with Joy Rx remind me that while technology and innovation can transform healthcare, it's the touch of human compassion, the spark of joy, that truly heals the soul.
I have been CCA volunteer since 2017 playing music monthly with Joy Rx in the lobby of Randall Children’s Hospital. I know the point of Joy Rx is to bring comfort and a little relief to suffering children, their families and the staff who serve them, but I find I receive so much more than I give each time I come. What better way can an old retiree like me pass a few hours in the morning than playing music with people who always make me feel appreciated and valued way beyond anything I contribute.
I have been a JoyRx Mentor (Chemo Pal) since 2017 and have thoroughly enjoyed this mentorship program. I have been matched with a couple of little boys and have appreciated the opportunity to meet them and their families during clearly stressful times in their lives and to try and have a positive impact in their lives. I've gotten to simply play with my matches while they are doing their treatment and hopefully help take their mind off of what is happening in their world for a short while. I've also very much enjoyed the interactions with the parents who are managing an extremely challenging and scary time in the life of their child. I've wondered if my primary role has been to just be a sounding board for the parents as much as it is to be there for the child. I truly believe this program is a great value to the families and also to me as a mentor! I so admire the strength of these young people and their families and love the JoyRx program for them.
I've been volunteering with CCA since 2017. Their music, mentorship, and nature programs create an incredible impact on the children they serve. The CCA staff is wonderful to work with. Any CCA event is always a great time!
I've been involved with the Children's Cancer Association as a community volunteer for many years. I have worked with schools and other non profit organizations to support the CCA in many different roles. They are always appreciative of even the smallest efforts and welcome many forms of support and donations. I know that when I am working with organizations that support the CCA our efforts are directly benefitting children and families struggling with life threatening illnesses. In addition to helping support the CCA through community partnerships and fundraising, I have a dear friend whose son had meningitis. He was seriously ill and in the hospital for a very long time. The CCA provided much needed support and resources for my friend as she navigated his treatment, hospital costs, and taking care of her other son and working. While in the hospital, she saw first hand how he responded to their MusicRx program-she believes wholeheartedly it helped save his life. All of these things were provided to them at no cost. I am a teacher and this year my class has, again, chosen the CCA to support.
We love the inspire breakfasts and always pack our table with potential supporters. In fact, one of our customers we invited became a Chemo Pal and it changed his life! It's wonderful to be in such a fantastic community that is spreading joy!
I have seen the impact of CCA's programs firsthand with numerous families. The relationships made through the Chemo Pal Program are sometimes lifelong and life changing. The Caring Cabin is an amazing retreat for families in the middle of treatment. Music is available to any kid in a hospital, not just kids with cancer, and it really changes the feel in the hospital room and hallways. This is a great organization started right in the Portland community!
Having the support of Children's Cancer Association made a really stressful time for our family a little bit brighter by adding support along the way!
Children's Cancer Association helped save our daughter's spirit with the healing power of music and joy while her medical team worked to save her life. Throughout her chemotherapy treatment for Osteosarcoma, CCA connected her with JoyRx Music mentor Kelsey. The bond our daughter made with Kelsey by playing music, talking about musicals and sharing common interests in music was so special. And, on our daughter's final day of chemo after she rang the bell, our family drove out to the CCA Caring Cabin in Pacific City where we gathered with extended family and enjoyed the beautiful, natural surroundings of the property. Thank you CCA for all you do to uplift children and families facing life's hardest trials.
I was able to see the magic of JoyRx first-hand as a child life specialist at St. David's Children's Hospitals. Both before and during the pandemic, JoyRX prioritized both the patients and families, and clinicians to make the experience fun and uplifting.
CCA is an amazing organization whose focus is bringing joy to seriously ill children through the healing power of music and nature.
I have heard the stories of the children served by CCA firsthand, have met members of the team, and see the incredible value the organization provides to families in need of their services.
I was matched as a chemo pal with CCA for about 8 months. Quite the process to get approved which is very appreciated for working with kids, especially in a medically fragile state. My pal and I got to meet virtually because of the pandemic, but it was so fun. We played games, did arts and crafts, and talked quite a bit. We even tried some new apps along the way. She was so lucky and went into remission almost a year early!! I also learned quite a bit about what it's like mentally to go thru treatment. Her mom is only a year older than me, but is going thru so much more. It was humbling but exciting to see them both make it thru.
When my daughter was sick, Children's Cancer Association showed up at her hospital room door and asked if we wanted a Chemo Pal. They explained that a Chemo Pal would be someone who showed up at her treatment with a big bag of toys to entertain and distract her. At first, I was hesitant, I was her mom - I wanted to take care of her, I wanted to make her better. However, I soon realized that when you have a really sick kid, you are thrust into the position of having to trust the kindness of strangers to help you though. So, we allowed Children's Cancer Association to travel the journey with us. And we were so happy we did! CCA was very conscientious in finding her the perfect Chemo Pal who was a very good fit for our family and her bag of toys was filled with all the toys my little girl loved. It was an instant connection as her and my daughter bonded over the big bag of fun! Every week, she showed up with different fun toys or activities. And each time my daughter was excited to see what she would bring that week thus transforming the hospital visits. As a side benefit, having a Chemo Pal for my daughter was helpful to me as well as she provided a bit of respite to me on the otherwise very long days. I am forever grateful.
I have been a Chemopal twice and a volunteer for the Children’s Cancer Association for 21 years.
It is the most rewarding job I have ever had that I don’t receive a paycheck from.
I was there when my first Chemopal’s battle with cancer ended as he flew into heaven. His mother asked for me to join their immediate family as they held our CCA’s Kiddo’s hand at Doernbecher’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon, as we all said prayers and farewell for now to a precious child. The CCA Kiddo’s single mom made sure I received an ink impression of his little hand like the other family members had. I have it with our CCA Journal. It is very priceless to me.
My 2nd CCA Kiddo was a bit older and we played games and watched funny movies often during his hospital stays and treatments.
His treatments were successful and we were able to attend my hometown 4th of July PRCA Annual Rodeo and sit in our heritage family box seats up front to see the Animals, Cowboys and Cowgirls up close.
We were able to take his little brother and mom. His father had to work. I had my Hispanic friend join us to be a special guest and interpreter for our kiddo’s mom. English was her 2nd language. We had great FUN!
Our little CCA kiddo almost made it the whole rodeo performance but tuckered out on his mom’s lap. I had brought a video camera to capture our adventure. It was great because he watched it later and didn’t miss a thing.
CCA is a wonderful nonprofit that brings Joy and Music to Kiddos and their families plus medical education, respite and support to families going through a very difficult and challenging journey.
I promote JoyRX.org on my media outlets. I am also a Petite model plus own Shamrock Equipment Financing and a few other corporate entities.
I have a very large family that came from Scotland and Ireland in the 1800s. We were with the wagon trains that came to the Wild, Wild West to settle in Portland and St. Paul, Oregon.
The McKAYS believe in giving back, helping in the community and pitching in.
The absolute best nonprofit we had the pleasure of working with during my son's treatment. You never want to need them, but if you do they'll be there. We LOVE our Chemo Pal Jerry!
When our daughter was forced to be too brave in order to conquer cancer, CCA made sure to not just support our baby bird but uplift our family in ways that made us feel well..human again. When our days were the darkest CCA was like a little light of joy that always brought smiles to our little girl. When Christmas time came around, we were finically, physically and mentally down as we focused on survival. CCA showered not just our daughter but our family with gifts and cards that truly made our sick baby physically dance and giggle. I’ll never forget my husband and I feeling so overwhelmed with gratitude. She was just a kid on Christmas. CCA showed us how far generosity grows. They continue to be joy to us all.
The Children’s Cancer Association is a fantastic organization. They help families who’s children are battling cancer.
They supported my daughter each time she had cancer. She had a “chemo pal” who would come visit her in the hospital with all kinds of activities for them to do. It was a nice break from hospital life.
They also organize activities for families outside of the hospital. We’ve gone to the Nutcracker, and Blazer games.
We grew close with my daughters chemo pal and she was even in her chemo pal’s wedding as a flower girl.
It’s been a fantastic 8 years and we still keep in touch! When covid restrictions are over I’d love to become a volunteer and give back.
This is such a wonderful organization. I can’t say enough great things!
My husband and I have been involved with the CCA for the past 16 years. We started out with making the CCA the beneficiary of our Green Jacket Golf Tournament in 2005 and then I became a Chemo Pal Mentor in 2012. I have mentored 5 kiddos over the past 9 years through the CCA’s Amazing JoyRx program. I can’t say enough at how Awesome this nonprofit program is and how many Amazing families it has served. I feel extremely lucky to be a part of it!
Children's Cancer Association has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence in serving children with life-threatening illnesses and offering invaluable support to their families at a time of tremendous need. The leadership team at CCA engenders a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and innovation. CCA effectively fosters lasting and meaningful relationships with their donor community to broaden the organization's reach , while operating the non-profit with the utmost fiscal, corporate and social responsibility.
As a volunteer, I have had the blessing of working in office, in hospital, at events and more. With that, witnessing first-hand the power of what they do for kids and their families. CCA has a number of programs from BedSide Music therapy, Chemo-Pal and Nature Rx that consistently bring much needed joy & comfort on the daily. As a volunteer they have made me a better individual in all areas of my life. Though non-profits are essential.. CCA is the most powerful and amazing program I could ever imagine.

The moment i walked into the Children's Cancer Association, almost 10 years ago I knew my life was in for something very special. Never would I have guessed that Volunteering would change my life. The CCA provides support, joy and soooo much more for thousands and thousands of kiddos and their families. Their variety of programs allows families to connect with the CCA which best fits them and their situation, interests and needs. When you're around the CCA staff, office, events and more... you feel that your life as well is receiving joy. I know from volunteering alone... the CCA has made me a batter man, dad, friend, colleague and person. Until you're around it, able to witness what they do... it's hard to gauge. The CCA's impact on the local and pacific northwest region is remarkable, and now across the country as well. Transparency, kindness and Joy are crucial parts of what the CCA is.... in my opinion the best non-prof ever!!!
I volunteered for CCA as a chemo pal. The training I received and the memories made playing my little pony with my incredibly courageous chemo pal will forever stay with me. The opportunity this organization provides for children, their families, and those fortunate enough to meet these incredible little people is once in a lifetime. CCA is one of a kind and I am so grateful for my time there.
The amount of joy that CCA has brought into our lives since our son's cancer diagnosis is immeasurable! So much love and support comes through this association. Families in treatment are continually blessed by these wonderful people. From mentors to instruments to a special get-away, they offer respite from the taxing life of a family in treatment.
CCA does amazing work with children and families who are going through very challenging and stressful times - they strive to bring joy, smiles, happiness and support in many ways!
We are so grateful for the incredible healing experience for our family while dealing with the difficulty of leukemia treatment for our 6 year old. The whole weekend was restorative. It meant so much to be in a place that was so thoughtfully designed with our support in mind.
I'm so proud to support the amazing Children's Cancer Association. Lifting up kids with great music, beautiful Mother Nature - plus a sea of friendly faces - What's not to love!?
This organization literally leads with, and is all about Joy. And what could be more important, especially this year, for the families they support, as well as for those connected to the organization in any way. The science supports the approach, and the smiles on the children's faces brought about by the music, mentorship and nature programs, prove it.
My daughter has been struggling with a chronic illness for the past six years. We discovered CCA a couple of years ago and her chemo pal and the activities she brings have brought joy to her infusions. Even since COVID has shut down child friendly activities at the hospital, they have met her outside the hospital with a bag of activities.
My son was five. His little body, lifeless in an ICU bed, fully intubated and in a coma as he battled pneumococcal meningitis. I sat at his bedside, as I had done for days, watching and waiting for the nightmare to end. They were all a blur, but I vividly remember a woman gently knocking on the door, introducing herself as a volunteer with the Children's Cancer Association, asking if I'd like her to come in and play some music. I eagerly accepted, desperate for any distraction from the buzz and whirling noises of the machines keeping my son alive.
I watched as this woman rolled an enormous harp into the tiny room, where she played song after beautiful son for us. Much to my amazement, my son's vital signs, as reported via numbers on a digital screen, responded to her music. The numbers changed as she played a song, and when it was over, they changed back. We both watched this in amazement, time and again, me sobbing as I knew he could at least process the stunning music being played for him by a total stranger.
Later, as I would stroll the hallways of the hospital, passing time and waiting for my son to return from his dark world, I'd come across musicians playing in the hallway, again a respite for very tired, weary parents, family, friends, etc. When I asked if the musicians were hospital staff, they explained they were volunteers with the CCA.
Fast forward: my son lived, came out of the coma, and once again CCA volunteers were there for us, playing music and sharing instruments that my son and his little brother (2 yrs) enthusiastically jammed out with.
The CCA made our darkest days a brighter, and our brighter days overflow with joy and love. Every year I ask my friends and family to give what they can to the CCA in honor of my son and all other families who should never have to find themselves in the unimaginable situation that they do. Please support the CCA in whatever way you can; they truly impact lives.
My sister has been a chemo buddy and has loved the process from beginning to end. They are well organized and committed to the children involved. Great organization!
I have volunteered with CCA for many years. I was the “music cart librarian” at Doernbechers while completing my doctorate and the experience provided insight and appreciation of the benefits of alternative therapies for a pediatric population coping with the difficulties of inpatient hospitalization. I also have sold raffle tickets, provided information, handed out water at a marathon and added to a video. Each experience added to the lessons I offer my medical assistant and nursing students as they start their careers. I am impressed at the creativity demonstrated by this amazing organization during the current pandemic.
CCA is an amazing organization. I have been volunteering and donating to CCA for more than 8 years. I have alway been impressed with the dedication to their mission and the incredible fiscal responsibility!
In recently relocating to the United States, I wanted to be involved with an organization that provides for and values bringing joy to the most precious of lives. As a father and losing a family member to cancer, the mission of CCA has significant meaning. It is greatly impacting lives, supporting families and bringing joy during very difficult times.
From the moment we received our sixteen year old daughter's heart wrenching Lymphoma cancer diagnosis the CCA was by our families side bringing joy and comfort. The CCA goes above and beyond by reaching out showing you that there is a team ready and willing to walk this unimaginable journey with you while bringing comfort, light, joy and just so much compassion. Our daughter has had the most amazing chemo pal that brings empathy and just so much love and willingness to just listen and be a friend during a time that is so scary and painful. The activities the CCA provides for children of all ages is very much appreciated and gives these kids fighting cancer something to look forward to and fun memories that the entire family will forever cherish. I truly can not say enough wonderful things about the CCA and our family will be forever grateful to them for bringing us joy and light during a very dark time.
As a business owner and father I have many things vying for my attention. When i decided to align myself and my business with charitable organization i had many great organizations with excellent motives to choose from, but there was no doubt that the Children's Cancer Association stood far ahead of all of the other groups i investigated. Regina Ellis and the amazing team she has assembled are some of the most incredible people doing some of the most noble, inspiring and impactful work i have ever experienced. I would strongly encourage anyone to investigate the incredible work being done at the CCA.
Two years ago I went to Joy Rocks for the first time. I quickly fell in love with the passion behind it, the stories of the families, and the fact that so many people could come to a party and be so generous with their money. I knew instantly that I wanted to be a part of CCA. I have loved volunteering and look forward to volunteering even more. Cancer is something that has touched my life in many ways through the ones I love and I have always had the mind set that I want to be a part of something bigger than me. I can't wait to meet more families and be a part of this wonderful organization.
I have been involved with the Children's Cancer Association for almost 2 years and I love everything about this organization. Who wouldn't love an organization whose focus is on helping sick children.
The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, they offer several different levels of involvement and appreciate each of their volunteers.
I am a chemo pal and have been matched with my kiddo for 5 months now. It took about 9 months to get matched and that's because the staff does such an amazing job of matching the right personalities to the right family in need. Christina, thank you for making such a great match for me! The family I'm working with is awesome and we have so much fun together.
Thank you CCA for making this happen. I have such a full heart after leaving my kiddo each week.
I have been a volunteer for the CCA for over two years and have been matched with 5 children so far as a Chemo Pal. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As a volunteer I can see how CCA, through the Chemo Pal, Music RX and many other programs, impacts lives of children and their families. Aside from living through the horror of childhood cancer, these families are also maintaining homes, raising other children, working and paying bills. The CCA can’t cure cancer or take away the worries and pain but what CCA does is take just enough of the pressure off of these families to give them hope and peace.
The CCA is a wonderful organization. They truly help out families and children who need it. Being a chemo pal has been a great experience .
The CCA...I can't begin to express how wonderful this organization is!! The mission is simple, but the impact it has on the children and teens it serves, is monumental. As a Chemo Pal and volunteer myself, the happiness I experience in this position has been so profound. Being able to help prescribe joy to someone going through cancer or other serious illness has translated into my own life and what I strive to do for others on a daily basis. The many programs that the CCA has are geared toward providing friendships, laughter and fun. It allows a child or teen to take their mind off the painful treatments they are receiving. It allows families to come together or take time for peace. It brings a sense of comfort and joy in times when it is needed most. The radiating effect that the Children's Cancer Association has is not just limited to interactions in the hospital. It is a conscious effort that can make this world a better, more joyful place.
CCA is an integral part of our community serving a unique population that desperately needs joy as a part of their healthcare. I have seen the incredible impact that their programs have on families in their greatest time of need. The Chemo Pal Program provides a very special volunteer opportunity that is so rewarding. The staff are professional and compassionate. This is a wonderful organization to get involved with - as a volunteer, a donor, or if needed, as a family.
The staff at The CCA go above and beyond to find fun, joy filled, and highly valuable ways to ease the load for children and their families as they battle life threatening illnesses. From their top notch joyrx music programs which give children access to all sorts of music to listen to, to sing along with, and even create with on actual instruments, to their LINK program which takes care of the details like providing gift cards for the everyday needs such as gas, groceries, iPads, and even new tires for cars, all of these things are huge helps for the families. Their ChemoPal program takes caring for children and their families to the next level. Providing a friend to play games from the ChemoPal Closet while they are going through treatment and also providing parents with a moment to talk with doctors and even relax. The NatureRx program is an exciting new program which provides children with outdoor adventures to just be a kid! All of these amazing programs are made possible through fundraising and donations. These fundraising events are awesome opportunities for members of the community, like me, to get to know other volunteers, the staff, and to volunteer our time efficiently, effectively, and to have so much joy doing it! Every CCA event from the NYE Governor Ball, to The Holiday Ale Fest, Twilight Race, and the Wonder ball Gala are not just so much fun to volunteer at but they are so well organized, which really helps make the events so much more fun! To know every minute of my volunteer time is utilized and completely appreciated brings me so much joy! I always tell my friends just volunteer once and be prepared to be a volunteer for life as it truly does bring the volunteers so much joy! Whether you hear from the amazing families and children at the Gala, on social media, or through a CCA thank you letter you will feel the love and gratitude for your volunteer time well spent. Another favorite program is the CCA's Caring Cabin! What a beautifully kept cabin and land for these families to go and restore and just be together to laugh and play. All of these amazing programs have been developed by the wonderful CCA staff, their board of directors, and the exceptional relationships they have built with our community. This relationship has invited families, friends, and businesses to all be a part of this incredible mission of the CCA, to prescribe JOY, and this joy continues to bring joy not only to the awesome children fighting illness, but to their families and their friends it also brings joy to hospital staff, community members, businesses, and volunteers who are so proud to be able to work along side one of the greatest, classiest, and friendliest organizations out there. It is a pleasure to be a volunteer for them. They make it so easy to find ways to help that meet your schedule and your talents. On their staff they have a Volunteer coordinator and they will email you opportunities where you can easily sign up for a volunteer shift. You are given advance notice and detailed instructions on where and when to show up, parking information, and more! Upon arriving at your volunteer shift(s) you are greeted by the CCA staff and they are always thrilled to have you there! You are given ample instruction and any supplies needed to successfully do your shift. Throughout your volunteer shift you will feel appreciated and that what you are doing is helping out the team! It is an awesome experience! I encourage everyone to check out the CCA at joyrx.org and look at their amazing programs, epic community engagement, and their cool volunteer opportunities! While you are there feel free to sign up to be a volunteer!!! You will be glad you did!
I have been an active volunteer for CCA for almost two years. Their mission is amazing- they really do provide wonderful moments of joy to children and families across the greater Portland area. Best organization I have ever had the pleasure of working with!
I have been involved with the CCA and their programs in many different capacities and am always amazed by the work they do. Their work to innovate and grow while continuing to bring joy into the lives of sick children and teens, as well as their families is incredible. A nonprofit where all staff, board members, and volunteers are willing to go above and beyond to help touch so many lives and find ways to make people smile during their darkest times.
CCA is a unique organization focused on improving the emotional health of seriously ill children through the healing power of music, friendship and nature
The CCA is an amazing organization run by amazing folks! The work they do to help children and their families is invaluable.
CCA's mission is to spread Joy! What is not to like about this mission? The programs and outreach that CCA has to children with cancer & their families is unbelievable. I have seen first hand, what these programs can do on positively shifting a child’s mood. I hope to one day see CCA programs in each and every hospital. The effects of spreading Joy will change the outlook on the fight against cancer and I am excited to be apart of this journey with CCA.
CCA has been a community partner of mine for 9 years now. Our firm is focused on eradicating pediatric Cancer from the planet and helping those children that are currently suffering. CCA is our partner to help those unfortunate children that have received the life altering diagnosis of pediatric cancer. In particular they have two programs that I hope can become nationally available to every pediatric cancer patient. The first is the Chemo Pal program. The volunteers in the program weekly connect with the patient and spend meaningful time with them during their treatments. This allows the family to have a break and get other things done. The second is the Music RX program. This program brings music and musicians into the rooms of those suffering and distracts them for a time and lets them be more alive, bringing them hope, love and peace through music. CCA is a program that will benefit the entire country as they are able to grow and implement these unique programs in every pediatric care center in the nation.
I've been a Chemo Pal for the CCA for the past 8 years, and recently became a board member. I've seen first hand how the different CCA programs directly impact the families who have a child being treated for a serious (often terminal) illness. The joy these kids so desperately need in a dark time through Chemo Pals and Music RX, the financial relief the Link program offers, and the chance to make final memories as a family at the Caring Cabin. The CCA is a god-send for families grappling with their child going through the unthinkable.
They have continually blessed our family with their love and light. They have created a healing environment for our child that was diagnosed with leukemia in 2017 and for our entire family. We are truly grateful.
I am currently a Chemo Pal volunteer with CCA. The pure joy I receive during each of my visits with my mentee is beautiful.
The entire staff that I've worked with @ CCA as part of this program have demonstrated such compassion and care for both myself as a volunteer and my mentee andher family is excellent. This is an organization that is so worth being a part of and giving of my time.
The CCA has been an amazing program to volunteer with. I’ve been a Chemo-Pal for 7 years, and have felt blessed with the experiences available for my Chemo-Pal. The support and diversity of programs enrich the community!
I first became acquainted with CCA through a colleague who had previously volunteered as a ChemoPal. He told me that I just had to connect with CCA and boy was he right! Once I met Regina and heard her story about her precious baby girl and saw the fight and commitment in her eyes, I was hooked! CCA is vital to our community and the organization, from staff, to board members to volunteers are ALL dedicated to the common goal of service and being their for kids and their families when they need help the most.
CCA is an absolutely amazing organization. At Oregon State, we work with them to bring joy to the families they work with by providing a game day experience to meet the players, coaches, and fans....CCA brings some much joy these families who live in constant stress. They help remind the kids to be kids and the parents to take a moment and just enjoy the experience...just an amazing group of people

CCA is an unbelievable and fantastic non-profit. Their goals and their mission of spreading joy to seriously ill kids and teens is a very unique approach that has an impact that cannot truly be measured. The experiences and memories that they are providing to the families allow people to just have a break from all the stress and struggle that come with fighting an illness and give them a moment to just enjoy life.
They are a national leader with their JoyRx mentality that really makes them unique and different. CCA recently teamed up with Oregon State and Unitus Community Credit Union to connect families with the football team to provide the child a relationship with not only the football staff but the players as well.
The opportunities that CCA gives these families is priceless. 4.Global organizations, families and individuals support CCA because this brand delivers JoyRx, impact and results.
I had no idea what it meant to have a 3 year old with Cancer. I didn’t know that my calendar for the next 3 1/2 years would be full of medication schedules and hospital appointments. I learned to live on very little sleep because my son was buzzing on steroids.
Children’s Cancer Association knew all of this. They knew just what I needed. I needed a magic fairy, a Chemo Pal, who would show up at the hospital for every appointment with a bag full of games, activities and books.
As my son progressed, and we emerged from a fog, we appreciated the full scope of CCA. They offered us fun activity respites (where everyone knows to wash their hands!), music programs and a family retreat at the coast.
Every person involved with CCA lives the message #JoyMatters !
My experience with the Children's Cancer Society has been truly amazing. Every aspect of the organization is run with admirable integrity and professionalism. I would recommend CCA to everyone!
Great Organization. Great events. This Organization helps the kids in many ways. Very happy to be part of CCA.
I have been involved with CCA for approximately 5 years. I have seen firsthand how joy can make such a huge difference in the lives of children and families going through cancer. I am a musician as well and to be able to witness first hand the power of music to heal, inspire, provide hope and renew is such a wonderful and powerful thing.
I love this organization - they do so much for families and kids going through such a scary process.
This outstanding organization is absolutely one of a kind and is very apparent to those that come in contact with it. Thousands of families are served through the various programs that CCA has to offer not only locally but nationally.
I have chosen to spend my time, support and money with this organization because I believe in everything they do. It is one of the most fiscally responsible organizations that I have ever come across and are strategic to maximize the funds raised toward specific programs.
The CCA brings joy to so many families in really touch times and leaves an everlasting impression on those they serve as well as those who are part of the organization!
After losing a young cousin to lukemia and then later losing my daughter, I believe there are few causes more worthy than the mission that the CCA carries out for children and families: bringing joy into the lives of those experiencing and supporting the fight of a lifetime.
With gratitude,
Oceah Clark
The one word For CCA is exceptional. They are providing JOY for children across the country and I love being a part this board. The staff is engaged and creative and always is looking out first for the happiness of these children. I could not be more proud of CCA and their accomplishments.
I have been on the Ambassador Board of Children's Cancer Association for the last 5 years. It has been one of the most fulling experiences of my professional life. The care, professionalism, spirit and passion of everyone involved in running this organization has been truly inspiring.
I believe that CCA delivers on their mission consistently and with a level of transparency not seen in a lot of non-profits.
The staff are super friendly and helpful and supportive!

I first became introduced to CCA through Facebook and as I researched them I found out that they were based locally and were continually recognized for their excellence. I became a Chemo Pal mentor with them two years ago. Being able to deliver joy to seriously ill kids and teens is an incredible thing to be a part of and I would encourage everyone to check out different ways they can get involved at JoyRx.org.
CCA has created and formed a nonprofit mission and staff that is second to none in creating incredible opportunities for volunteers to positively engage with children and their families who are battling cancer! I recall my first few visits with my chemo pal at the hospital, he was very shy and really unsure why I there. Within a few months we were routinely found in the hallways playing games, laughing and building legos. The parents of my chemo pal would actually have a few moments of quite time in the hospital which was great. I can't thank CCA enough for the opportunity to volunteer. Z
When I moved to Portland in December of 2016, one of the first things I did was search for an organization that I could spend my time with, a cause that I could connect to and enjoy investing my time into. I'm so glad that I found the Children’s Cancer Association.
CCAs mission statement couldn’t speak to my heart more.
I love volunteering with CCA because small joys are so important to the brave kids and families they help.... My interactions with every single staff member and volunteer has been nothing short of heartwarming. I think we all understand the value of "joy" and though we may not know each other well enough quite yet, I know we all have a personal reason that CCA and their mission means so much.
I have been a Chemo Pal mentor for CCA for over two years now. I can't say enough wonderful things about this organization. I had the privilege of working in the front office last summer and loved loved every minute. The teams members were very friendly and helpful made me feel right at home.
I first heard about the CCA thru their Valentine's Day for The CCA Radioathon. Hearing Regina Ellis share her personal experience with childhood cancer and her family's heart to help other families get the joy they need during a difficult time made me want to be part of it. My employeer has worked with my coworkers to raise funds during the Valentine's Day for the CCA since 2007 and our involvement has evolved from not just fundraising but also volunteering along side The CCA and their awesome pool of Staff and Volunteers. It doesn't just bring joy to the little ones going through cancer and their families, but so much joy is given to the volunteers.
The CCA is an amazing group of people who work closely with members of the community, engaging with, and including one another for the benefit of families in need of a little something to look forward to.
From a logistical stand point, they run all of their fundraisers and volunteer opportunities with such skill, organization, efficiency all around, and gratitude. They understand the importance of each volunteer and their role in making these events successful not just financially but for building teamwork and community.
You will simply fall in love with this group of amazing people who work so hard and so smart, for the CCA.
I'm a Chemo Pal Mentor with CCA and it's a wonderful organization that really makes a difference in the lives of kids with cancer. Through the Chemo Pal Mentor program, JoyRx Music Program, the Caring Cabin, CCA brings joy, friendship, and experiences to children and their families while they are going through very difficult circumstances.
I volunteer as a Chemo Pal for the CCA, and I have to say it has been a life changing experience. The benefits of the volunteer experience are obvious, so I'd like to mention why I rate the CCA 5 stars as a non-profit.
My experience with the CCA has been 100%. From the application process, to the interview, through the ongoing support of the program. They are professional, thorough, and very organized. As a volunteer, I appreciate the support I receive and the stellar communication I have received over the last two years.
They are a great group of people, and I'm proud to be part of the organization.
Children's Cancer Association is beyond amazing! CCA's staff exceeds my expectations on an ongoing basis. They stay in frequent contact with their volunteers and give us the big picture of how our time and commitment makes a difference for children and families impacted by cancer. I truly appreciate the opportunity to be a volunteer with this organization.
I am a chemo pal mentor, and in order to be approved as such, I had to go through extensive background checks, fingerprint checks, medical tests, interviews and training. CCA takes their role seriously ensuring that they are creating the best environment and matching the correct mentor with each child. I am very proud to be a volunteer for CCA!
I've volunteered for the CCA for 2 years now. They do so many wonderful things for children and their families. They really do make a difference in the lives of children that are going throw some incredible hardships. I'm very proud to volunteer and support such a wonderful operation . Keep up the good work CCA! ♡
have been a chemo pal to a 6 year old boy who had a bone marrow transplant. The family has been very appreciative and I have become good friends with all of them. Very inspiring to see the work they do with children and their families facing difficult medical situations.
I'm a Chemo Pal and I've seen first hand with 4 different young boys that I've been matched with what a difference this program makes in their lives. In each case these young boys dread their appointments and once we are matched that changes dramatically. They look forward to going to their appointments to spend time playing with me. I believe that a happy child gets a lot better results from their treatments. I've also seen how this program will step in when families are having difficult times financially because of medical expenses. It's so wonderful to see an organization that fills so many needs when a family is dealing with a potentially fatal illness of a child.
I've been volunteering for them for 5 years now & the relationships I've formed with these young boys and their families is a blessing to each of us. I cherish my time with each boy & wish that this program could be in more places accross the country. It's one of a kind!
Volunteering as a chemo Pal for Children's Cancer Association has been such a wonderful and fulfilling experience! I love the people that work there and how dedicated and thoughtful they are to the organization and everybody involved in it, especially the children! I have to say, I am very thankful to be part of this organization. I really feel like I make a difference and it's all because CCA makes it possible!
I have been a Chemo Pal Mentor for almost two years. Children's Cancer Association always goes above and beyond for patients, their families, and their mentors. There has never been a time where I have felt unsure or unsupported thanks to my program supervisors and fellow Chemo Pals.
They go above and beyond for the families which they support. It's absolutely incredible.
National organizations, families and individuals support CCA because this brand delivers JoyRx, impact and results to nearly 22,000 children and teens across the US with cancer and other serious illnesses. I am passionate about CCA because no other organization makes sure to provide children and their families with transformative moments of joy through music, as well as enduring bonds of friendship through the mentoring of Chemo Pals. CCA staff and volunteers truly care about helping and supporting children and their families.
The Childrens Cancer Association is a wonderful and effective organization full of bright, caring, and creative individuals who are all driven by one desire: to bring joy and excitement to children and teens with cancer and other debilitating illnesses, as well as offer support and peace of mind to their families. Their volunteers are always forward thinking and positive, whether it's supporting the organization at a race or playing music for kids at a hospital. I greatly appreciate the work they do and I do my part, when I can, to spread their message to as many people as I can.
CCA is an absolutely amazing group! Supplying chemo PALS that bring toys and games to the hospital to hang out. All the events they provide give the kids things to look forward to. Beach days, soccer, basketball, football and hockey games. Holding craft nights at their office. Just a small bit of what they do.
I have been volunteering and working with the "Joy Squad" (young professionals board) for the past 3 years and the experience has been breathtaking. I've seen first hand the impact and joy that is created with children and teens through the in hospital programs. Kids being able to be kids while in the hospital, seeing the change in their mannerisms and inflection change, and the impact it has on their families as they are able to relax, play, and be present in these moments. CCA has taught me, a healthy young man, empathy and has shown me the true value of communities sharing and being vested in each other.
I am so honored to be able to work with this organization. The leaders took the worst kind of tragedy and created a vital and sustaining place and program where they offer positive and life-changing boosts to those families who are navigating the darkest hours of their lives. Dying of cancer is not glamorous, but CCA allows families to make their memories, to help their sick kids, to hold their families together, and to ease pain (physical and mental and spiritual). The leaders are real stewards of the resources they work with and THE MOST INNOVATIVE PEOPLE I have ever seen! I'm not the best joiner in the world, but I love my connection to CCA.
I am passionate about CCA because it recognizes how important fun, music, and joy are to the healing process in sick children. The mission marries my passions for music and kids while being an excellent steward of the financial resources we give it to fulfill its mission.
CCA is a national leader in delivering JoyRx to seriously-ill kids, teens, and their families. For me personally, CCA contributed to the joy welfare of my nephew and his family along with many others in the broader communities served. Check out some of the amazing programs from MyMusicRx, the Caring Cabin, or becoming a Chemo Pal. ( http://joyrx.org/get-involved/) There is no organization that delivers joy like CCA.
Over 20 years ago, Regina Ellis dared to imagine JOY in a place where it was previously never thought to be found....in a Portland Oregon hospital room, where her own daughter was battling a life threatening illness.
Joy has been singing, dancing, playing, and smiling with seriously ill children in Portland Hospitals ever since and now across the country and soon around the world. It is a scientifically proven fact that JOY can help heal. CCA will not stop until JOY is part of the prescription for every child in physical need. Every child deserves JOY.
After being involved for many years through connections with friends and family, Regina asked if I would help make a more direct and impactful contribution. As an Industrial Designer by education I love to develop ideas and create solutions that help make the world a better place. I feel incredibly blessed and humbled to be a part of CCA to do what I can to help them grow into being the Brand of JOY in pediatric hospitals around the world.

i have been a volunteer at CCA for a few years now and am a better person for it. What CCA does for children with serious illness and their families is both humbling and inspiring. The world is, with out a doubt, a better place because of CCA. i will always give my very best to CCA in hopes we help make a difference in the lives of the kids in this world who deserve a chance to grow. My dream for CCA is for them to grow their reach across the globe, giving as many sick kids in the world the Joy CCA delivers and that they deserve.

Great people, great cause, great leadership.
Totally focused on the beneficiaries of this great non profit.
As a board member I get to see the inside and outside of the organization. Top notch administration and mission. Was a volunteer before a board member....This organization and its leadership made me want to do more!
CCA is a powerful force of joy for children with serious illnesses. CCA brings joy and music directly into the child's life; via the hospital room and the hallways.
One of my favorite CCA programs is the ChemoPal program. An adult is matched with a seriously ill child. The adult visits the child at the hospital with a duffel bag full of toys specific to that child's interest. The ChemoPal is there to play and bring frivolity to an otherwise long and lonely stay at the hospital.
I have been involved with CCA as a volunteer for 13 years. I have listened to many families tell their stories of the joy that their ChemoPal brought their child, and their family.
For the child, the ChemoPal is not a parent, not a nurse with needles, and not a doctor delivering more news on the child's health. The ChemoPal is there to play, and focus on the child. Mom and Dad can step out of the room and get a break to grab a coffee, pay bills, make phone calls and just catch a breath.
We have seen children continue their friendships with the ChemoPals, as well as the family. No one knows how much that relationship means, until they are stuck in the hospital.
The MusicRx program is another outstanding program that uses music to provide a little joy during the trying times of a serious illness.
Additionally, CCA treats its volunteers with respect, gratitude, professionalism and they provide great leadership and training for their volunteers.
I am so passionate about CCA because they deliver on authenticity and huge hearts.
Thank you!
Exceptional organization that maintains an unparalleled transparency and dedication to their cause. I will be a supporter for life.
CCA is a national leader in delivering JoyRx to seriously-ill kids and teens. Hearing the stories of Joy through Music rx are profound. The work they do is unbelievable and to see the families and the children smile is just the best. CCA will continue to do great things.
Global organizations, families and individuals support CCA because this brand delivers JoyRx, impact and results in hospitals across the nation. The inherent healing qualities of joy and music have been with us since the beginning of civilization ... CCA embodies the intent and spirit of "joy matters, music heals" for thousands of children and their families every day.
This organization has the ability to change the world! I've never seen a more innovative, kind, & well run charity in all my years as a volunteer. From their in hospital programs to providing support for families beyond the hospital, this organization has filled a much needed gap in childhood cancer. Talk about pioneers! They are involved with one of the first ever studies that is testing the healing power behind "music medicine". This Exponential Organization is truly expandable and has the ability to reach/help kiddos with cancer all over the world. Regina Ellis has developed an amazing leadership team that works diligently to provide much needed joy during a time when it's needed most. This organization is revolutionizing the way the world views children's hospitals.
JOY is contagious!
Music is such a simple yet powerful prescription for kids with serious disease. I watch in awe the expressions, the glow of the kid's eyes and the animation of happiness when the CCA JoySquad is with an ill child. There is no other organization opening this world to kids, I am grateful for all they do.
CCA is a national leader in delivering JoyRx to seriously ill kids and teens, with the belief that joy matters and music heals. For children diagnosed with serious illness and their families, every moment is precious. CCA’s goal is to transform as many of those moments as possible – with joy.
The Children’s Cancer Association started over 20 years ago with a family who faced its own battle with serious pediatric illness in Portland, Oregon. From that experience came a passionate commitment and focus: To deliver the healing power of music, friendship, play and resources to families facing the same challenges.
I am so grateful for the work that CCA does, and I am proud to serve on the Board of this impactful and extremely well run charity. I consider the Children’s Cancer Association to be an outstanding non-profit organization. Their work, commitment and passion in their field is truly unparalleled.

CCA is by far one of the most amazing organizations that you will ever come across. Not only does CCA create joy to many seriously ill children locally where it was founded but now the joy is spreading across the entire nation to many other states. This joy is gifted to these children and their families anywhere from bedside music while in the hospital to granting special activities and events for the children and their families to enjoy the gift of time together. CCA is the most well respected organization for the amount of donated dollars going directly back to the programs year after year. I wish all non-profits were as well thought of and respected as this one. What and incredible organization!!!
I have had the privilege of working with CCA and as an individual who has experience with my mother's terminal cancer, I know first-hand the importance of joy and creating beautiful moments in the midst of dealing with a tough diagnosis. Great organization with top-notch leadership.
CCA does something no other charity I know of does. They simply create joy amongst those going through the worst time in their life. They aren't there to find a cure...they are there to help get through the process. Life is easier when you are happy. For those going through these tough times, CCA brings happiness and joy to families who probably couldn't imagine having that emotion during these times. I love CCA and will forever support them in their mission.
CCA is a national leader in delivering JoyRx to seriously-ill kids and teens. CCA impacts all of the lives it touches with joy and hope - it's changing the world for thousands of people a year.

I have gotten to know CCA over the last several years, both through providing pro bono legal services to help set up some of its programs as well as through being a member of the Ambassador Board, working to expand its reach. CCA provides what is so essential to those struggling through difficult times - moments of joy. CCA provides moments of joy to families and their children that are suffering from debilitating and life-threatening illnesses. Regina, the CEO, lived through her beautiful daughter's cancer until she was taken early from our world - Regina brings so much heart to the mission of CCA that it can't help but reach deep within and drive you to bring joy to those that are suffering. The organization is so well organized, supported and driven to succeed that the growth I have witnessed is awe inspiring and it motivates all of us that are involved in its mission to continue to strive for further growth - to reach and bring joy to more and more children and families that are suffering - to give a moment...

I'm passionate about CCA because of the brilliant job they do in delivering joy to kids with life-threatening illnesses. They bring music and light into what are often frightening and dark moments. It's been inspiring to witness their impact first hand. Thank you, CCA!
I am passionate about CCA because no other organization …shares joy so compassionately and generously to the families, organizations and individuals who are continually supported by the CCA.
I am passionate about CCA because it provides opportunities for children with serious illnesses to experience moments of JOY! The children, along with their families, greatly benefit from the amazing programs that only CCA can offer.
I've witnessed first hand just how much joy CCA brings to thousands of children and families dealing with life threatening illness. The commitment CCA's staffers have to making an otherwise terrible journey one filled with love, support, and continuing aid.
I was honored to help design the headquarters and 10 years prior the caring cabin! A place of togetherness healing for thousand of families! CCA deserves the highest of honors
Below is a picture from CCA's birthday. Where joy was needless to say abundant!
CCA has been in our family's life for over 10yrs. My son Princeton Anthony Caldwell was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2002. CCA stepped into our life in 2002 and never stepped out. The memories that I have of my son are a lot of happy ones and CCA will always be part of that. As the years have gone by life
continues to move on. I am truly grateful that CCA is still there with the same focus it had when Princeton and our family needed them and that is to bring joy and laughter in childrens lives. THANK YOU!

In the most trying of times at work and in my personal life, there is one place that i can always turn to where i can be safe in my place in this world. it is knowing that the CCA exists, born from the death of a beautiful girl named Alex from cancer. Regina, her mother and the CEO, has captured our hearts with her story, and the CCA has become the place where giving my time, treasure, and talent releases something magical in my life. And the story is so powerful, the hundreds of asks i've made to friends, co-workers and potential donors over the last 9 years i've been involved have been met with a resounding "YES!". The cause is pure, the company is run better than any i've ever experienced, and cancer remains a disease from which too many children suffer and need our help. I wish i could give, in the words of my healthy 11 year old daughter, "infinity stars."

I have been involved with CCA for four years. Regina's passion for people motivated me to make a difference with her. I have been a chemo pal and I am a ambassador board member. I have many choices where to give my time and money to and I choose CCA. Their staff is professional and dedicated to making a difference now. I have lived the impact CCA makes when I am in the hospital volunteering. To make children and their families smile, brings joy to me. This organization is unique and changes people's lives. I am proud to have been associated with CCA for the past 8 years as a donor and board member. It is the best run non-profit I know of, and I am exposed to a lot of great organizations. They are innovative, caring, courageous, and unbelievably passionate about the kiddos and familes they serve. No matter what challenges they take on, their focus on their mission is un-parralleled. I never hesitate to recommend CCA to anyone wanting to get involved. Their 4 star rating is well deserved!

I have been involved with The Children's cancer Association for about 6 years. It is a fantastic organization with top notch people. The leaders and employees of CCA are caring, conscientious and hard working to serve tens of thousands of children and families every year. They work tirelessly and have excellent communication with their board, Ambassador Board, Volunteers and Supporters. They are genuinely appreciative of every supporter and gracious with their heartfelt thanks. I feel so honored to be involved with CCA. Leslie Palmer, Ambassador Board Member

From the time the CCA was founded both my husband and I wanted to be supporters. The breadth of services and loving support to the children and families is exactly what is most healing. This is the literal HEART of care when a child is seriously ill. We have always been impressed with the innovations and expansions of helping children deal with chemo, losses, debilitations. Through bringing music, art and laughter to children these services both detract children (and parents) from the medical procedures, pain, and discomfort, and enhance the effects of such procedures. The Caring Cabin, is a marvelous offering to families needing a peaceful and joyous respite. (I write this as a retired teacher and child development therapist who specialized in chronic illness). We will always be supporters of this marvelous organization.
The integrity of the leadership team at CCA is unparalleled. I have served on other boards, but the pride I feel by being a part of this organization is immense. The good that is done by CCA is extraordinary and brings joy to my heart and many others. Thanks CCA!

The CCA stands to support families throughout every facet of the experience of childhood cancer. My son had an unexpected birthday spent in the hospital, and the CCA stepped up and contributed to ensure he had a happy one. We spent months in the hospital and they supported us especially with their MusicRx program, with gifted music therapists who offered their amazing skills and music. Music reaches to the soul, offering a gift of beauty to the moment. The CCA is there, with JoyRx to give even in severe illness, in extreme moments of the loss of a child, across the gamut of the scene the CCA is there. I've watched them stand in support of many, many families with their Life Enrichment program, their Caring Cabin, their Chemo Pal program as well as the MusicRx program. This organization gets it - they are consistently authentic, respectful and supportive.

My son, Ramsey is served by the CCA. He has leukemia and is currently still in treatment.
He has a chemo pal through the CCA that comes to all of his appointments and keeps him busy having fun rather than focusing on the treatment to come. We adore her and we are so grateful for this program!
We also have taken advantage of many of the activities that provide fun things for our family to do in an otherwise dark time.
Perhaps our favorite thing has been The Caring Cabin......What an amazing retreat for all of us to enjoy together! It was spectacular!!!
We can't say enough really great things about the CCA!!!!

I was granted a wish by CCA when I was 18 and diagnosed with cancer. The action of someone reaching out and offering comfort to me and my family during the tumultous ride of a cancer diagnosis was life changing. CCA is so committed to supporting our community that it inspired me to give back to families like mine by volunteering and becoming a donor myself.
Review from CharityNavigator
My daughter, Sue, has been a CCA volunteer for over 5 yrs. 4 yrs ago she suggested I volunteer at CCA as well. So I did! And, it has been the most rewarding thing I have done in a very long time. I trained to be a Chemo Pal but my husband became ill and I couldn't commit to 18 months. So I volunteered in the office most of the time. I have never been in such a caring, loving environment as CCA. All the employees individually thank each volunteer for what they are doing to help out. I recruited my son to come along and volunteer with me. We re-arranged the toy shelves, stuffed envelopes, stuffed gift bags, volunteered at the annual golf tournament for CCA in which my hubby and nephew participated. For 2 years I volunteered at the annual program hosted by CCA in Sept. in Downtown Portland. I especially enjoyed the one time my daughter and I volunteered at the Caring Cabin get-together. Meeting the children and their families was so endearing. What a wonderful place for these families to just get away from their daily routines and just relax and enjoy themselves. My favorite happening was when my niece-in-law was at my home, started reading a CCA pamphlet showing a very sick child and talked about their families. She read it, cried, and said "I really need to do something for CCA." And she did and she does what she can being a working mom of 2 and a wife. Probably the most heartwarming thing, is the love, caring, and comraderie of the employees and their relationships with the volunteers. They show their appreciation and love to everyone and without their dedication and work, CCA would not be what it is today. Thanks Regina and family for dedicating your life to the remembrance of your daughter by organizing CCA and made it what it is today, along with your employees and volunteers. Often on Facebook I remind all my friends of the beautiful organization, love, and caring shown by your employees, patients/families, volunteers, etc. and how important it is for each of us to make a difference in our lives by helping out as volunteers. Love you CCA!
I began volunteering for CCA two years ago. Everybody I have met in the organization is awesome and very passionate about helping kids with serious illnesses and their families as they go through a very difficult time in their lives. CCA provides the joy that shines through the darkness for these kids and families. I'm proud to be associated with them and encourage others to volunteer as there are many different opportunities that fit everybody's schedule!
I was invited to help with the 2011Joy Ride that supports the Caring Cabin, a place where kids and their families can escape the medicinal halls of hospitals. I went to the first meeting I was instantly established as a friend and companion of all the CCA people.
They have these huge pictures of many of the kiddos on the walls of the meeting area and when I looked into thier eyes, I fell in love and just wanted to help all I could.
I believe they (CCA) have nothing more in mind and in their souls to help kids with horrible diseases. CCA is relentless in their work, the passion and love they have for each other and the volunteers is beyond words.
I am very impressed with CCA's focus on wisely spending donor money to serve kids. 80% of every dollar goes directly to their programs!
The Children's Cancer Association is second to none. The CCA is run by the nicest group of people you will ever meet. They took our family in and offered us love, support and smiles during our darkest times.
Their programs are top notch and we benefited from almost all of them. My son loved his chemopal (a volunteer who was screened, trained and assigned to him to attend his chemotherapy appointments and play with him so that I could focus on his care), the musicRx program (which is branching out nationwide), the Caring Cabin coastal retreat and bonus activities (professional hockey and basketball games, symphony tickets) and gifts (including Nike Shoes periodically for all my children).
We moved away from the Portland metro area and have missed the CCA greatly. I am hoping that someday soon they will expand and bring this wonderful organization to more families around the country. How lucky the families in the Portland, OR metro area are to have the CCA!
