Mission: To create a vibrant, inclusive community on treasure island that provides pathways for economic advancement for lower-income san franciscans, including those who have experienced homelessness. We achieve this through affordable housing, jobs, community building, and advocacy.
Programs: Community services:tihdi services include operating the weekly food pantry and managing and operating the ship shape community center. It also includes support for the operations of the island childcare center.
employment services:tihdi operates a job broker system to recruit formerly homeless and low income san franciscans for job openings on treasure island. Tihdi also operates a construction job readiness and training program.
economic self sufficiency program (essp): the essp provides financial literacy assistance to low income & formerly homeless workers and residents. This includes providing workshops on money management, budgeting and credit; providing linkages to banks to open accounts; understanding credit reports and providing resources on how to address credit issues; managing a business assistance center with a computer lab where people can obtain computer help, job search and work on their resumes. It is also the site where low income wage earners can obtain free tax preparation services.
