Sondra A.

Board Member

Rating: 5

Over the past several years, the increased focus on the programs, management and success of residents has had remarkable results. The leadership team has responded to the range of challenges, stability and growth needed to make the mission of Elizabeth House a reality. I look forward to continuing my involvement with Elizabeth House and am confident that it is on a path to extend and expand its services to help more families.

Volunteer

Rating: 5

I have been a volunteer for Oakland Elizabeth House for the last two years. The work all the volunteers do is amazing. They are able to touch and change lives for the better. It is impressive how the volunteers are so devoted to the organization's mission and to the women with their families. The work the Board of Directors do as volunteers is incredible. It takes so much energy and passion to accomplish all that is done for the families at Elizabeth House. I am proud to be a part of this small but mighty organization. I feel like my efforts make a difference.

Once a thriving organization with sold-out buoyant fund-raisers and an extraordinary ED who was the heart and soul of the house, Oakland Elizabeth House now appears to be floundering and in disarray. This seems to be due to a high board turnover which is partly due to an arguably rogue board president. The resulting new board is isolated and alienated from the larger community that has supported the house over the years. Fundraisers no longer sell out and some have had to be cancelled. With a wonderful mission and a previous very successful history, there is great concern about the future of this organization under the leadership of the current board.
