My name is bereket tekle gebrekidan and I live in 10616 Carrie lane Indianapolis IN. My phone number is 317-374-9149. I called 911 in the past about some of these things but they don't help
I own nothing and have no assets like car or home. But that's just the least. I stay afraid someone is going to hurt me again or take my life. I'm misunderstood and judged. I'm broken and desperately in pain alot.
I have been abused in the past very severely for many years.
Now I suffer from the aftermath of all trauma, verbal, psychological, sexual, social, social media, violence, life threatening situations, hatred, theft, prejudice, alienation, plots, conspiracy, police brutality, false incarceration, poisoning abuse.
I'm now 37, staying with my mom, and suffering with alot of things, mentally, financially, drugs, homelessness, criminal record, no job, medication, I have no one, and am left alone most of my time, I've attempted to get help through other places, sometimes it's OK, but alot of times because of my past abuse I am very sensitive and afraid, and still the problems with these places have caused me more problems.
I don't know what you can do?

OABI and its leader do work that builds people and stabilises a society. The type of work that Mrs. Alexander undertakes is the type of work that requires a heart of gold and a deep human touch. We have partnered with Mrs. Alexander over the years and we continue to support her work and her heart.

O.A.B.I. is led by a strong and action oriented, people loving woman. She is fierce in her passion to protect and serve the people she has been privileged to work with. This organization is very needed but requires, like so many other NGOs, numerous types of resources to ensure that their mandate is of excellent quality. I was privileged to conduct a leadership/entrepreneurship session with O.A.B.I. to expose the team and others to strategies for sustainability.
We at CoESL applaud the team at O.A.B.I. and pledge to work in whatever way possible to help to build this partnership and sustain both our organizations.
This Non-Profit continues to lobby for women's rights, human rights and the prevention and elimination of violence and discrimination against women. Their style of lobbying is unique and they continue to work at all levels to bring about change.

This organization continue to work towards the eradication of violence against women and girls. As a volunteer for this organization I must say that I admire the Executive Director who leads by example and delicately works towards enhancing the lives of others.
I attended a workshop which was put on by this organization and I must say it was professionally done, helping persons to understand empathy and how necessary it is in the work of combating violence against women. Since after the workshop I have been following this organization and I must commend their team for the work which they are doing in helping to teach prevention and awareness to young women and men everywhere.
This is an organisation inspiring all of us how much better the world could be! Very enthusiastic, professional and intervening where needed, I got to learn a lot while volunteering for OABI, I hope they will carry on their vision and change even more lives to the better!
O.A.B.I has done excellent work in outreach and fundraising. This organization also has focused a lot on educating the public and gathering support from all sectors of society, both local and international. I strongly recommend O.A.B.I for future endorsements.

With the high level of abuse of all kinds that has been happening in Trinidad and Tobago, I thank God that there is an organization like O.A.B.I to offer hope to those hurting and fearful. Their commitment in service and love for people is greatly evident in their day to day operations and it is for these reasons that I am a volunteer with a phenomenal team O.A.B.I
As a victim of childhood sexual. physical and emotional abuse, I know first hand the adverse effects of childhood sexual abuse. I lived through the shame, pain, hurt, anger, promiscuity, the domestic abuse, disease, secrecy and silence as many of us do. I live my life as an advocate to empower women and children to break the shame and shackles of childhood sexual abuse. Thank you Sherna for allowing your story to help heal others and give us permission to tell our stories so that we can live the life that we deserve. So that we can sing again, love again (starting with ourselves), breathe again, beleive again, feel again and reach for our fullest potential in life.
I visited this organizations center for the first time a few months ago being a victim of domestic violence for years, the environment was very inviting, the persons who I spoke with were professional and really made me feel comfortable, though I was hesitant to go for help I was at a breaking point and months later I have not regretted going, I go for counselling sessions once per week and this organization has initiated a program in my community. - Mala Joseph, Chagunanas. Because of this organization intervention I am able to move forward with my life, the members of this organization continue to show a high level of confidentiality, support and would assist you whenever and wherever necessary.

Being a past client of this organization I must commend them for their ethical stance and their level of professionalism they continually strive for better standards even with the limited amount of resources.
This organization went above and beyond to assist me not only to come away from my abusive environment but helping me get a place to start over, I must say the last 2 and half years has been the best for me, productive and I feel as though I can breathe again, I feel confident and now on a path reclaiming my life. Ever so often they still send me message to see how I am going.
Abuse kills and the shame of it kills, for years I was walking around and everyone saw someone well put together however I was so frail that if someone shook me to hard I would have fallen to pieces, if you are in an abusive relationship please seek help. Thanks to the members of this organization which assisted me.
Although my experience with O.A.B.I. has been from many miles away (Santa Cruz, California; U.S.A.), I can attest to the positive and life-changing impact they have on victims and survivors. Through the power of the internet, I have followed their wide variety of programs offered to members of the community. Their heartfelt dedication and boundless support continues to amaze me!!! I was privileged to submit my own personal survival story to be published in the December 2012 edition of their online magazine. I look forward to future collaboration with O.A.B.I. in both the United States and Trinidad and Tobago.
Two years ago I had no place to stay due to health issues and financial problems, I was also the victim of rape. When I was introduced to this organization they actually went all out to assist my children and myself.
They helped us to get a small apartment and somehow found furnishings for the apartment and stocked it with groceries.
I was also referred to a counselor and the organization continues to assist our family with helping me academically and checking up on the children with school. Once all goes well I will be doing 2 CXC subjects in January of 2016. This organization help changed my life and impacted on my children's life. With their limited resources they do a lot.
This organization deals with the lives of Battered and Abused Individuals in Trinidad and Tobago society. This organization deals with the victims of abuse and the social issues arising out of such situations. This is an area in Trinidad and by extension the wider Caribbean community that is in need of dire help. The organization crosses the boundaries of culture, gender, race, religion and age. Therefore, all persons involved from the staff to those receiving service can really feel the passion and heartfelt love which is offered by OABI.
This organization not only impacts the Global community through contributions to the World Bank Reports but it also touches and concerns itself with the day to day lives of the abused and battered in society. The organization, through its leadership inspires individuals not only through words but service. The leadership’s style and practice is such that it crosses the boundaries of culture, gender, race, religion and age. As such persons really feel the passion and heartfelt love which is offered by OABI.
It was a great experience to me and show what people go through in life and the organization put their best feet forward to reach out and help people.
I whole heartedly endorse the work off this organization..Although I'm a volunteer with another NGO..I have had the pleasure of working alongside Miss Alexander on several occasions as our organizations networked to handle several cases.
I follow the organization s work and keep updated with their activities
I really identify with the passion off Miss Alexander to conquer this parasite of abuse in our society, which robs our so many of our nations youths of their innocence
I like a lot off research is done and advocy for implementation of laws to protect children are relentlessly pursed
This organization though new has done an amazing amount off work in its short existence
I k ow many women ,abused ,and families have found relief in their councel knowing that they are not alone.
But there's so much more to do
Your support goes a long way
When I met the founder of O.A.B.I, I was touched and amazed at how passionate she is about her work and about erradicating domest violence in our country. There are thousands of children facing child abuse and women being battered who have nowhere to go, no one to talk to, this organization does a magnificent job at offering the support, guidence and LOVE that these individuals lack in their lives. I encourage everyone yo please support O.A.B.I in any way they can, a little goes a long way and makes a HUGE difference in another person's life.
In April of this year I participated in the training sessions which this organization held in collaboration with the National Library Information Systems NALIS. I must say that the training exceeded my expectations and while I had silent issues of abuse of my own and never said a word listening to the Executive Director give a summary of why she was intrigued in learning Emotional Intelligence I had to speak with her at the end of the training.
I must say that that she was welcoming and encouraged me to seek counselling, I may not be able to stand in public and show my face to speak about my abuse but the support of this organization has really helped me, I went to do training in emotional intelligence and Conflict resolution I came out with much more than I thought I would.
I would encourage everyone out there to support this organization as they are doing great work. Maybe one of these days I will be strong enough to place my name and face to this testimony until then I am proud to have known this organization and will support them in all that they do.
Miss. MS
My name is Alana Mascal, I am the mother of 12, I met this organization in 2012 when they came to the aid of my family, which was in a terrible situation at the time. Accompanied by the Community Police the members of this organization never judged our situation but intervened to assist us not only with the physical things which we were in desperate need off but also with the emotional and medical support.
Since then they have continued to maintain a wonderful relationship with us, they assisted with getting our children into schools, got extra lessons for them and assisted me with getting a job, I must say that while we are working towards getting a home that as a woman I feel more empowered and I will be forever grateful to this organization for the work which they have done in my life and in my family life.
My children continually ask for them especially Miss. Sherna the founder she has a heart and passion for children and people in general, I can safely say this organization truly work hard towards helping victims and families in poverty. Our family still has a long way to go but we are much better off than where we were almost 2 years ago.
This organization tries to build individuals wholistically. It is not about hand outs but a hand up, empowering people (women, men and even children) to be better individuals in the homes, communities and society at large.
My friends Tumika Nathalya and I became a part of OABI believing it to be soley about the the fight against physical and sexual abuse. But becoming a member it became even more than just that but also a support group for all of us as members. This year Tumika and I have graduated form 6 now going on to pursue tertiary education and Nathalya is one year closer to finishing her degree in HRM. We are thankful to God for our involvement in OABI and pray for the continued strength of the group as continue to excel.
Being a part of O.A.B.I added to my life in a great way. Iv never met people who's so selfless & giving and supportive of each other in order to maintain a functioning organization. The aim is always to make someone smile and give support to those who are in need no matter what they're going through. I know we are going to touch lives more and more each day.
I attended training with this organization in the month of April 2015 and I must say they are professional, inviting, knowledgeable and I highly recommend them and the work which they do. Preventing gender-based violence using unique methods and training where anyone can see the seriousness of the problem yet not feel uncomfortable about discussing this most pressing social issue.
I do hope that those in authority fully support this organization with the resources they need to help women and girls, men and boys. Well done to the entire team. The founder Ms. Alexander Benjamin is totally down to earth while maintaining a very high level of professionalism and transparency. Met her for the first time during the trainings and she changed the way I looked at gender-based violence, conflicts, trauma and resiliency.
O.A.B.I.: Organization for Abused and Battered Individuals is a wonderful international agency operated by
Sherna Benjamin Founder/President. O.A.B.I seeks to educated, end and eradicate all forms of human abuse. There is not a more worthy organization fighting for this cause than the Organization for Abused and Battered Individuals.
Julie Federico
In spite of the prevalence of domestic violence, I cannot underscore how important the work of this organisation truly is. Led by a small team of committed directors (one of whom I know personally), I have no doubt of O.A.B.I.'s ability to further educate the public on domestic violence, and continue to give assistance and therapy to the people who need it.
As a member of OABI, i feel tremendously blessed to be part of a hard working, caring and out going team. The founder Ms. S. Alexander Benjamin is a wonderful lady, very down to earth and would go out of her way to help others. With a leader like her, the org. has a high possibility of succeeding, not only in the Caribbean but internationally. I am one of the youth leaders for OABI and the support we receive from the elder members is just totally awesome . Their spirit is so positive and so willing it just boosts us to do more every chance we get. Even though i reside a little further from the other members i do not feel excluded. I would encourage any one who has a heart for abused of just people in need to contact us and become a volunteer. You would meet people that would keep your hearts warm, it is really an eye opener ! :) :D
This wonderful organisation is a friend to the abused and is like a confidant who does not cast judgment. It warms my heart to see victims of abuse feel like they're taking back control of their lives in a safe and productive environment which offers healing and rehabilitation from previous traumas. They care. They really do care. God bless them dearly.
It's with great pleasure that I not only discovered the beautiful work of O.A.B.I, but also the beautiful people. I was magnetized by the depth of their desire to help create meaningful change in the world. While the subject of abuse is a challenging one, O.A.B.I are a towering presence among those that skirt the issue of such taboos, and is an immensely eloquent and vocal in their attempts to speak out on behalf of the voiceless while delivering educational and heartfelt messages that inspires change. They are community driven, yet operate on a global platform, ensuring the fight against this evil plague in our society is one which all can participate in.
O.A.B.I is an organization that provides hope to people who need it the most.Their efforts to connect communities and donors while helping the underprivileged has it's challenges, but it certainly makes a difference in the lives of individuals in need.
With a passion to thrive O.A.B.I. have crossed many hurdles and continue to rise above the Social and Economic road blocks.
I pray O.A.B.I. continue to do the outstanding job they are doing in schools and communities as well as the assistance and education to hundreds of girls, women and children. Keep up the excellent work!
Compassionate persons ready & willing to go the extra mile to make T & T a better place. By publicly educating citizens about the different types of abuse and to ensure support is provided for those in need. But most of all they are a beacon of HOPE.
As an attorney practicing in the criminal law field it is very evident that this organization's work is invaluable to our country . They reach out too citizens regardless of gender and age and provide the necessary support and awareness for a cause that is still taboo in society
A few months ago, a young lady was brutally attacked by a male and she didn't know what organisation to turn to for help. She was mentally deteriorating and needed professional help. I recommended OABI and she felt hope. It is such a great opportunity to have the option of reaching out to an organisation like OABI. OABI is like a best friend, a home; where positive people encourage spiritual, emotional and physical growth to people who are truly in need of help. As a member of the public, I would continue to encourage and advise anyone that there are good people and good organisations like OABI that will help, reach out and inspire individuals who are hurt and in despair.
I have never met anyone as dedicated as Sherna and her team from this organization OABI, who go all out to help the individuals in need in their time of distress, the abused, the broken and battered. They devote themselves to each person and arrange for immediate and safe accommodation for the persons who are in danger. They put their lives at stake for people they just get to know and could most definitely do with more support from the Government and other entities. They make the people feel they are part of a big family and give them hope, encouragement. They provide the food and necessities for daily living with whatever resources available. They indulge deeply very often into their lives and can feel the pain and despair and go out of their way to help these individuals. I would strongly recommend this organization OABI, I am so grateful that I have been directed to this organization to be able to assist in any way I can.
OABI is an organization that has worked relentlessly and continues to lobby for the rights of battered and abused individuals throughout Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean Region. Their dedication and committment to assisting abused children is second to none. They have touched the lives of hundreds of men, women and children and have been able to give them hope when there seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel. I pray that they continue to reach out and touch the lives of those individuals that are broken, hurt, and abused. May the good Lord give them the strength and endurance to change nations. Keep up the excellent work
Many times I sit and wonder what I can do to help. How can I? Should I? With the Grace of God I meet this organization and found that channel. O.A.B.I. is much more than that. I feel pride and love seeing all the work they have done and continue to do. They will always have my support.
Wonderful organization, young passionate people who really care and goes above and beyond what is expected of them to do. I have no problem volunteering for this organization. And would encourage others like myself to to give back of your time and resources to make a change in the world.
Ruth Depeza
The vision of this organization says it all. They are visionaries in their own right and and they work towards making a difference, enhancing lives and the reduction of violence against women and girls and men and boys.
The level of advocacy which they push themselves too is simply amazing and having persons from various countries and languages volunteering even online is amazing, their level of confidence, trust, responsibility, professionalism and transparency in reporting sets a solid foundation for this organization.
Like with all organizations they are limited due to the lack of resources it is also amazing to see them work even without resources and go into communities to help those who are battered, and living in poverty.
I Volunteered with this organization in the month of May and I must say that it was memorable experience, they way that the members treated the children with such compassion and love, empathy I believe it is called.
As I continue to work closely with this organization I know that I will learn a lot about the needs of many, I will learn how to, I encourage anyone to volunteer with this organization they are young but they are making waves of change.
As a young person who volunteers for this organization I am given the freedom to be creative and to share my thoughts, as young persons we are encouraged to become good leaders, great mentors and effect positive change.
Various generations come together and it is always a please to listen to experience, hear from another my age and to see the babies in action.
As a member of the board I consider it an Honour to be of service to this organization. Working with members to protect children from violence through education is fulfilling. I have seen true sacrifice in this organization and high character traits of integrity, honesty and transparency.
I wish more can be done but in wishing this one will also have to wish for an increase in resources but the stark reality is that more needs to be done. To reach the less fortunate, abused and those living in at risk communities.
Quincy Quentaro
Dedicated and compassionate persons, there is so much work to be done in the area of abuse prevention may this organization continue to find support and use their voices in the csuse.
Their dedication for protecting and preserving the innocence of children is admirable. Their sacrifices to help others is unquestionable as they work towards helping the less fortunate and children in at risk situations.
Through the rigorous prevention programs I received pertinent information and advice in regards to my situation of abuse, I was able to realize that I was being abused and that for a great part of my life, I also received the support and ability to become empowered to break my silence and seek help. To every person who volunteers or works for this organization Thank you for giving me hope.
This organisation has challenge the belief that only laws and money can save society, OABI has used manpower to advocate and mobilized the issues of rape, domestic violence and child sexual abuse which is eating away the innocence of TT. With my continuous support I have seen, this Org has not only been a safe space for women and girls, as OABI have supported men and boys in a gender oppressive society.
Empower always... a life is worth it.
This is an organization run by people with great drive, heart and passion. Their work in the field of violence and abuse is invaluable to the whole world. Their social media and radio campaigns reach many. As a survivor myself, and professional working with these issues, it is wonderful to feel part of a network of support and understanding - for victims and advocates alike.
This organization is truly doing a work of education I am more than happy to have been in one of their workshops they are truly serving selflessly.
