I first came across NAR 8 years ago after the loss of my first orange cat (age 13) - I was searching local rescue websites and found the kitty of my dreams. My experience was very positive and I continued to follow their website and contribute on an annual basis....when I was looking for another kitty, I again went to their location to see a 4 year old red and white - the fit was not quite right and in the meantime, another red kitten literally jumped into my arms.....I took him home on a week's "trial basis" and the rest is history. SO, I now have two NAR rescued red kitties who are the loves of my life.....I continue to support NAR and will going forward.
About three years ago, my husband and I lost our cat very suddenly and were devastated. We had another cat who did not handle the loss well and we didn't want to go through the larger rescue we adopted our previous cats from. After looking at a few smaller Philadelphia area rescues for a black cat, Jayme from NAR quickly reached out to us and suggested that we adopt Felicity (now known as Mabel) based on our current cat's personality and our needs as a family. Despite it being during pre-vaccine Covid, Jayme was able to schedule a time for us to meet with Felicity and her foster mom a couple of days after this phone call and we've never looked back! We still keep in contact with Jayme and frequently donate to NAR because they communicate well and can see how hard they worked to get our precious Mabel socialized around both cats and dogs, thank you so much for taking a chance on this wonderful critter and allowing her to join our little family!
Hello , we adopted two wonderful cats through NAR. Chase and Echo are and were the sweetest cats. NAR foster parents do a great job getting to know their animals and matching them with potential homes not to mention a great job in general preparing animals for adoption. I give NAR the highest possible recommendation.
Harper (aka Melina) is a wonderful addition to our family. Jayme is really knowledgeable and is on top of caring for the NAR kitties. Harper had proper medical care, vaccines, and was microchipped. Jayme met us at a Pet Value that was convenient, since we had to travel far to meet Harper. She has great information in her adoption packet, and was helpful when we were having issues helping Harper adjust to her new home. We love NAR & will always adopt our fur babies from them!!!
Northeast Animal Rescue has extremely dedicated volunteers that do amazing work. Their fosters are the best! My two boys (Gus and Spencer) came from NAR and were fostered by an amazing 'mom.' They are both sweet, gentle, and loving cats. I know it was because of the way they were treated in foster care. I highly recommend this organization!

I adopted two young cats from this rescue last year. The foster mom could not have been more accommodating! She brought 5 cats to my house and let us spend a couple of hours with them so that we could choose the two we thought would be the best fit. Both of the cats that we adopted are absolutely wonderful. You can tell that they had been well cared for by the foster mom and the rescue overall, and also well socialized. I am so glad I had the opportunity to adopt from this group!
I had a fabulous experience with this rescue. They are very responsive to requests and have a great adoption process. Their fosters are easy to work with and accommodating. I adopted a teenager kitten Stormie, he is a lovely boy who fits in well with our pet family. We love him very much and will be returning to NAR to adopt again in the future.
The people who volunteer in this organization are amazing. They spend so much of their time taking care of the cats and getting them adopted to good families. I got my little one from them almost 7 years ago. She has been my sidekick ever since. They are a wonderful and caring rescue.

I adopted a cat almost two years ago. She is wonderful. All my friends could not love an animal more. She was well cared for before I adopted her. Jamie Rosenthal had a lot to do with it. My vet Dr. Moyer told me she does wonderful work saving cats. Especially cats with poor sight. This rescue gives above and beyond to save animals. Hazel has been the best thing that ever happened to me lately. She is such a joy. I want to adopt another but I would only go to Northeast Animal Rescue if I do because of the care they give to the cats before you adopt them. All you have to do is take them home. Medically and physically they are in excellent condition. This is a top notched organization.

6 months after my cat Maggie passed, I asked the vet tech who was always there for us where to look for hard to place, but healthy, cats. She’s a volunteer with NAR and shared the site with me. When I saw Desmond (now Carlin) I knew we were meant to be and because he was so attached to his sister Carly ( now Radner), she came home too. They were 15 months old and brought in by NAR at 6 months. They were going to be released back to the colony (see pics for tipped left ears) but something changed and NAR cared for them for the next nine months until I came along. It was a tentative time for both cats as they were very timid but lovable and with Jayme’s help they found a forever home. NAR has become my go to when suggesting adoption for cats. xo
Review from Guidestar
I’ve adopted my last 3 cats from NAR and couldn’t be happier with them, start to finish. From filling out the application, meeting the cats to bringing them home. It’s always been a great experience. My 3 NAR babies are simply the best! I couldn’t ask for more loving cats.
I was driving from New York to Philadelphia this past October to visit my boyfriend when I stopped at a rest stop in New Jersey to get gas. While I was Leaving the rest stop, I noticed a grey cat sitting outside of a gazebo. I stopped and got out of my car. I called the cat and he came to right to me. It was raining that day, he was wet and emaciated and clearly had an infection of some kind. I knew I couldn't leave him there so I scooped him up and took him with me to Philadelphia. My boyfriend and I spent all day driving around, first to PAWS which was closed, then to the SPCA which quoted me over $1,000 to help him. I started to cry because as a college student, I don't even have that much money and they were my last hope. We spent the rest of the day in my car with him reaching out to people and trying to find someone to take him. I knew he would be euthanized if I brought him to animal control. The great people at Project Meow put me in contact with Northeast Animal Rescue and we met up with them and they took him in, even knowing the extensive amount of work he needed. They kept me updated on him and now he is available for adoption. I am so grateful to them because most places would not take a case like his, and if they hadn't I have no idea what I would have done. Now this guy gets a much deserved second chance. This is a great rescue. I will be a lifetime supporter now! Thank you!!
"We didn't do it, Mom! It fell down all by itself!" Our life has been a constant stream of joy, love and consternation since we adopted our two kitties, Stevie and Hollywood through NAR in March of 2010. We fell in love with this pair of foster siblings and had to have both! Working with NAR made us appreciate the work they do to make sure each of their animals will be going to a good home. I would recommend this group of hard working volunteers to find just the right pet for you. We've been overjoyed with our "kids" and they will always be members of our family.
6 years ago I adopted the most wonderful cat. Her name is Hazel. If it was not for the caring people at NAR who took care of her for 6 months before I found her and she rescued me. I will always support them for letting me adopt my wonderful Hazel.
We adopted Cabo and CoCo back in 2011. My husband found NAR through online research and knew they'd be the perfect organization to adopt from. Their kitties are so well cared for until they can find their permanent home. Their foster mom has kept in touch every Christmas to send a little gift to them. Everyone associated with NAR is just wonderful!
I got my twins from NAR - two kittens born in the same litter that needed to stay together. They were healthy and happy and so well cared for by their foster mom. They were friendly and helpful when looking for our kittens, to make sure that the experience was good for everyone involved - especially the cats. I recommend NAR to anyone, and will definitely look to them again when looking for new additions to my family.
My Husband, Danny and I adopted our tuxedo cat, Midnight, now, Midi in October of 2015. We drove 5 1/2 hours one-way to get him. Midi is blind. I found him online, and fell in love with him. NAR was a wonderful organization to work with, and Jamie answered all of my questions before and after, we adopted Midi. It is a wonderful organization! The truly have hearts of gold, and do whatever they can to help the animals. Midi is a 2.5 year old sweetheart, who is full of love and personality! He brings so much joy, laughter and love to our lives. Thank you, NAR for helping us find our furbaby! Bless you and the good work you do!
After we suffered the loss of our previous fur baby passing away we were fortunate enough to find NAR when we were ready to adopt. They were a pleasure to deal with. We adopted not one, but two beautiful orange tabbys that were sisters. We will forever be thankful to NAR for taking care of our babies until they found their forever home with us!
I adopted Apricot and Olivia, two sisters with Cerebellar Hypoplasia. I had lost my kitten with it to FIP and wanted to give a home to another special needs cat. They arranged several visits in different locations with the special needs cats so I could see them interact and in the end I did not want to break up the two sisters who had come so far together. They are both well behaved, litter trained and will respond to their names, which I did not change. I would definitely adopt from them again!

I wanted to adopt a cat with special needs and had found one from NAR online. Upon completing the paperwork I met three separate cats with the same condition (cerebellar hypoplasia), met two volunteers who were both very helpful and friendly. I ended up adopting two handicapped sisters, Apricot and Olivia, whom are both well and still with me. The foster mother was happy to answer questions, and help me with any issues.
We adopted our first cat Sabrina almost 9 years ago. We adopted Puanani 2 years ago, and the Koa a little over a year ago. Each and every time all of the staff and volunteers were helpful, kind and considerate. They are always ready to answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend them. They love cats.
I started volunteering about 6 years ago. I am a cat lover and welcome a chance to share some time, love and attention with kitties who have not had it as good as my own. We have a vast array of generous volunteers who come to the stores, foster the cats and run many fundraisers. I attempted to foster cats and ended up keeping 3 of them. It is awesome to see so many people commuted to the welfare of all these cats. It is always so exciting when one of our kitties finds their forever home for a lifetime of love.
10 years ago, my daughter & I found a 6 week old kitten in our yard. After making sure he wasn't somebody's lost pet, we decided to keep him. When he was about 2, we decided he needed a playmate. We noticed the Northeast Animal Rescue cats & kittens during our many trips to Petsmart. Their cats all looked well cared for. I loved their "no kill" philosophy and the fact that they even take in cats with special needs. We adopted 2 cats from the rescue without hesitation. My daughter and I were so impressed with NAR's great work that, within the next year....we started volunteering on a regular basis AND added a 4th cat to our family (she was a NAR foster)!! NAR's T-N-R efforts and their emphasis on finding good homes for their fosters is commendable! This rescue really cares!
I enjoy volunteering with NAR and I've found the other volunteers and founders of NAR are personable, understanding, and love what they do. The cats are well taken care of and the new owners are provided with a wealth of information about each animal. One of the best places I've volunteered with.
I love volunteering with NAR! The cats are happy, healthy and well cared for. NAR is great at finding the right homes for the cats and it is a beautiful thing to see so many successful adoptions!

I found NAR quite by accident. I had a little of kittens born under my shed to a feral mom. As soon as I saw them I started to contact rescues. No one could help, quite by accident I found NAR. They were out the same day. They tried to trap them, no kitties were around that evening, so for a couple weeks I put out food and water hoping to gain their trust so NAR could Trap, Neuter, and Return. It was explained to me that more than likely the kittens were too old by this time to socialize them. The kitties never returned so now I volunteer with NAR going to the store every other Saturday to clean, feed, water, and exercise the kitties. This is an amazing group of dedicated people.
My husband and I adopted our 2 cats in August from Northeast Animal Rescue. We never had pets together in the 6 years we've been together, and NAR made the process so easy. Our brother and sister cats are 2 years old and were given back to NAR due to unforeseen circumstances with their first home. Their foster was AMAZING, and after communicating online and on the phone, she set up a special visit for us at PetSmart. We stayed in the private room for nearly 2 hours and couldn't bear the thought of not having them in our lives. The adoption process was smooth, thorough, and very warm. We had so many questions, and everyone couldn't have been more helpful. Our kitties have adjusted so well over the past two months. We absolutely adore and love them beyond words and can't imagine our days without them now. I type this while Leia is snuggled on my lap and Luke is sleeping nearby. I can't recommend NAR highly enough, and I would love to start volunteering.
Northeast animal rescue is so dedicated to making sure that their cats are placed in the right home for the cat and the people. Not only are cats in their care well taken care of but also the cats that are feral that they trap and spay and and or neuter and release back into their own colony. I wish everyone was as dedicated to their animals as Northeast animal rescue there would not be an over population of cats on the street and cats in shelters that get euthanized.
I volunteer, foster and have adopted from NAR. All the animals (cats and dogs) are cared for to the highest standard I've ever experienced. Foster homes are encouraged to keep in touch with adopters and adopters are encouraged to keep in touch via email and social media. As a foster home, it's great to see a pet you fostered grow up in a loving home. As an adopter, I know the animals have received proper vet care and socialized in foster homes. And, as a volunteer, I know we have a great group of people who care for the cats, interact with them and help promote our animals. I'm proud to be part of this organization and hope we can continue our mission for many years to come.
Northeast Animal Rescue is a great organization. They are dedicated to adopting out the animals to the best possible families. I have been volunteering for the shelter for about 3 years now. It has been a wonderful and rewarding experience.
Northeast Animal Rescue is a wonderful organization. Their dedication. professionalism and expertise is exemplary. I have adopted cats through them and their compassion for these animals is evident in all they do. I highly recommend NAR for adoptions . I have had many positive experiences and look forward to many more.

My daughter just adopted her second cat through Northeast Animal Rescue. Jayme Bader was very accommodating, available and patient. She helped us choose the cutest little guy! She has offered her services and extended herself to all of our needs. My mother has also adopted through this agency and I have never seen her so happy. Jayme has helped me through the process of adopting a blind cat through ASPCA which was going to be euthanized due to her disability. This organization has a true mission and is devoted to rescuing these beautiful animals who cannot speak for themselves.I would not deal with anyone else and will continue to support Northeast Animal Rescue. Keep up the good work.

My daughter and I volunteer with this rescue at Petsmart on Roosevelt Boulevard. It has been a great experience for us both to help out with this wonderful group. These cats are very well taken care of with a very dedicated group that makes sure they receive the best of care until they are placed in their furever homes. Please consider adopting, fostering or volunteering with this great organization!
They take great care of their rescues and know each of them so they can tell you about their personalities and help you choose the right cat for your family. They care about their animals and are passionate about what they do. They don't leave you after the adoption process is complete and they welcome photos and to keep in touch.
I foster for this group. They are wonderful to work with, take great care of their felines and find wonderful homes for them. What more could a kitty ask for. Highly recommend adopting from this group.
I am an animal lover and owner of a 12 year old cat. I love and adore her. I often visit northeast animal rescue and donate also. I see how they lovingly care for their rescues. All the volunteers I have met are beautiful people.
It brings tears to my eyes to see the lovely creatures in cages but I also know they are so well cared for until they find their forever home.
Please find it in your heart to adopt and / or donate. God blesses people who are kind to animals.

I am in the process of being a volunteer. The northeast animal rescue is very clean and organized. I am thoroughly impressed at how well kept the cages and play area and the cats themselves are kept. The volunteers are very nice and helpful. You can see and feel how caring they are. It makes me happy to be able to finally offer my services to them and to be a part of their organization.
I adopted one kitten from NAR to match my very possessive adult cat. Thankfully Jamie was so helpful and nice about the addition and checked in often. She cares about the cats, both yours and the new adopted one. She's very flexible and always willing to work with you. We just adopted our third cat from them. Always an amazing experience
I am a cat owner for over 30 years. I lost my last cat and thought I could never bring up another cat. I saw my two kittens and knew I had to have them. The adoption process was so gratifying to see the questions NAR asked to make sure their animals go to the right home. My kittens came with full documentation and
they were both spayed. This helped us tremendously. One of the kittens unfortunately was predisposed to an ailment that sometimes happens to shelter cats. NAR helped me cut costs for dental extractions for my precious puzzle. she is now two and looking so well. we are hopeful that she will continue to be well. both the cats are wonderful and we are so please and happy to once again be a family. Jamie is the most caring and supportive caregiver of this organization.
We have adopted three cats from this organization. When one got sick, Jamie was very supportive and advised us well. The last cat was fostered by us for two months, during which the organization assisted us and covered vet costs. We finally decided to keep him and they did not charge any fee. I think they really care about the animals and want to place them with responsible owners. They are readily available to answer questions and will help you throughout the adoption process.
I have adopted 5 cats from NAR in the last 9 years. They are professional, compassionate, dedicated people. The cats are wonderful members of my family who I love very much. These people screen potential donors, work hard to make compatible matches, and spend a great deal of time and effort caring for these cats. I keep in touch with them to let them know how my cats are doing. Their commitment to saving animals, and placing the animals in good homes with loving families is commendable. They work miracles with limited resources.
I found out about Northeast Animal Rescue (NAR) when I was looking to adopt 2 cats and found them at the Petsmart store at Haldeman and the Boulevard where NAR shows their cats. I immediately fell in love with 2 Calico sisters that were at the store and applied for them on-line. The screening process seemed to be very detailed and I was impressed with the length this organization goes to when screening possible adopters to ensure the cat gets a good home. Within a day I was contacted about meeting the kittens and I adopted them shortly thereafter. I was extremely impressed with Jayme Rosenthal and the detailed advice and guidance she provided. A few months later, I contacted Jayme again about adopting a male cat and she referred me to several possibilities that might get along with the cats I already had. I found a beautiful male cat among the group and also discovered that he was living with his brother, so I wound up adopting them both to keep them together and they blended in with the rest without problems. I was extremely impressed with the way this organization is run and its caring, friendly group of volunteers. As a result, I wound up signing up as a volunteer and have loved every minute of it!
I volunteer at the NAR site located in Petsmart on the Boulevard. These cats are extremely well cared for. They are out of their cages at least two hours every morning and two hours every evening during the week and a lot longer on the weekends. The workers at the store also stop in to visit. The volunteers not only clean the cages and feed them, but they also play with them and cuddle them. The cats are also switched out of Petsmart into foster homes and back to Petsmart until they are adopted so that they do not spend all of the time they are waiting to find a home in a cage.. In addition to this, NAR is involved in trapping and neutering feral cats then returning them to their feline families - how kind is that! This is truly a wonderful organization!
I adopted 2 cats from NAR a couple of months ago. The adoption process was fantastic. The cats were healthy and extremely well adjusted. My vet said that he could tell they came from loving foster homes. I was highly impressed by the dedication and kindness of NAR. You could just tell how much they loved these animals and how fortunate both the cats and I were that they were there to help. These volunteers deserve a special place in heaven for their work.
I am a foster home and an adopter of 2 Northeast Animal Rescue cats. It is a wonderful group of people who work tirelessly, day in and day out. They will pair you up with a cat that will be a perfect match. They always go the extra mile for their animals and the adopters. Please support this rescue.

Currently in my home I have 3 wonderful cats adopted from this organization. Murphy, Duncan and Newton were all "adults" when I adopted them. Murphy and Newton had serious health issues when they were first taken in by NAR - these kind people spent time and money treating these boys, and today they are healthy, happy, and spoiled! The people who manage this organization are caring and devoted, yet are professional in every way in how they run their rescue and take care of the animals. They carefully evaluate all the people who apply to adopt, and make thoughtful decisions about who gets to become a "pet parent". I have never known people more committed to a cause. I support them however I can, and they are and will always be my first choice when considering adopting in the future.
I have worked with Jayme and NAR for a number of years now and have never been disappointed with the care and professionalism shown to the cats, and to the potential adopters. I do the trapping myself, but use NAR to get the cats neutered, vaccinated and tested. Some of the cats are returned to the colony while others are fostered and socialized. Recently, I trapped a litter of four kittens: two were returned to the colony and two stayed with me to be socialized. Once they were ready to be adopted, Jayme posted the one on the NAR website (the other already had an adopter) and found her a good fur-ever home. I have worked with other cat rescue organizations and NAR is definitely a 5 star in my book!
While looking for a special cat to adopt online, we found a precious little boy who was with NAR. Despite the fact that I had moved 1.5 hours away from Philadelphia, I decided to apply and was pleased with the care and amount of attention they had given the kitten I was adopting - it was clear these folks were animal lovers and deeply cared about the animals and where they were going to a forever home. He has turned out to be one of my most precious pets ever and I'm grateful for their assistance in placing him in our home!
I adopted my first cat from Northeast Animal Rescue in 2002. He was the most beautiful boy and fit in so well with my existing crew of 3 cats. When I lost him suddenly to a bladder infection and an inattentive veterinary office I was heartsick. 2 months later, I went back to NAR with the intention of adopting one particular cat. Instead, 2 different cats literally picked *me* out and once again my household was complete. Or was it? Years later, when I lost one of my older cats to kidney disease I knew it was time. Jayme told me about the perfect kitten for me, an orange tabby named Leo. When I went to the foster home where Leo was in residence, it happened again. Not one, but two! I had to keep Leo and his sister Delma together. I truly cannot say enough about the amazing work Jayme and her crew of wonderful foster parents do for cats in need of loving homes. They give the bulk of their free time, their homes and their hearts to this organization and are making a difference for the cats AND their prospective adopters!
Northeast Animal Rescue is about caring and compassionate people who have a genuine love for cats. The foster pet parents a tremendous job in preparing the cats left in their care to live in adoptive homes. We adopted two companion cats on April 16, 2011. Piper and Leo are wonderful pets thanks to the care they received from Northeast Animal rescue.

After our first two cats passed away, we decided to adopt from Northeast Animal Rescue. We saw the cats the organization had for adoption on display at PetsMart. We were inpressed with the detailed biography each cat had indicating its known background and whether the cat would fit in with a household that had other cats, dogs or children. The cats received excellent volunteer care while they waited to be adopted in their purrfect furever homes. Northeast Animal Rescue is unique because it is not a shelter housing cats in cages. Rather, it is a netowrk of loving foster homes that provide individual care for cats as they await adoption. We adopted two adult cats who are beautiful members of our household thanks to the loving care they received from Northeast Animal Rescue. We like to donate to Northeast Animal Rescue as "chip-in" donors for cats that require special but expensive medical treatment for disease or injury.
I adopted a kitten from the SPCA who died one day after I brought him home and I was crushed. I went to the PetSmart to buy food for my other pets when I saw two of the cutest kittens for adoption. I filled out an application and was called two days later by Jayme to come pick up my "kids". I have been just delighted with them. So much so, that two years later I adlpted another kitten from Jayme and Northeast Animal Rescue. Jayme and her volunteers do an outstanding job of resucing and caring for cats and kittens that are looking for their forever homes.

It is a true pleasure to write about Northeast Animal Rescue. I have adopted 3 kitties from NAR over the past few years. Although some are kept at the local PetSmart, any time I stop by they are clean, well fed and if a volunteer is there, they are running arond and playing.
NAR is very conscious of the people they allow to adopt and they do a complete backgrond check on all prospective "parents".
Jayme is a real gem and so dedicated to rescuing feral cats and helping those living on the street.
Great work NAR
Several months ago, I knew I'd be moving into my own apartment, and thought that it was time to own my very first cat. My best friend had adopted two cats from this rescue several months ago, and I knew that she had a great experience, so I thought I would try to find my perfect cat through them. First, I filled out the application, and then started looking at the many cats they had in foster care that were up for adoption. I wanted a special needs cat, as I know that special needs animals are harder to place than cute cuddly kittens. So I narrowed my choices down to several cats. I got approved to adopt a cat, and started inquiring about the few I had thought would be perfect fits for me. Unfortunately, or what i thought was unfortunate, they did not feel that the cats I wanted were good fits for me, my lifestyle, and my personality. I respected that, as it clearly showed that they cared more about finding the perfect home for both their cats and their potential adopters. Then they sent me a photo of a special needs cat that I had overlooked, simply because I thought he was ugly. I said as much, but they insisted that I meet him, as they were sure he was the perfect fit for me. I begrudgingly agreed, and set up a time to meet him at the vets office where he was being fostered. When I got there, they put me in an exam room, and brought in this skinny, ugly, black and white cat. I was sitting on the floor, and this cat immidiately came over to me, head butted me, bit me, rolled over, and started purring, all in a matter of 6.5 seconds. It was love at first site. I am forever grateful that they said "no" to the other cats, and insisted I visit with this one, as he is most definitely the perfect cat for me. He has the cat version of cerebral palsy, but has no idea that him falling all the time is not normal. He loves to head butt, and play, and snuggle and purr. He has gained some weight, and his personality never ceases to amaze me. Sometimes I think he thinks he is a dog, as he certainly begs for human food like one! I named him Loki, which means "mischievious" as he is definitely a little trouble maker. I no longer find him ugly, and in fact, now that he's gained some weight, he's actually a very handsome fella. I am so very grateful that this rescue makes sure that their cats and kittens find the best possible homes for both them, and their new human. Loki was a cat I never would have looked at at my own, and I am so grateful that they insisted we meet. He is the perfect cat for him, and I know that he is very grateful that I am now his human. He was meant to be put to sleep because of his condition, but the vet and rescue refused, and although he waited 5 months for me to find him, we are the perfect match. I love my Loki, and I love what this organization does, as they absolutely put the well being of their foster cats and kittens first. I would recommend them to anyone!
During the summer we had kittens born under our shed. I tried for two months to find someone to help me trap them so they could be socialized. Finally someone sent me to North East Animal Rescue, they came out to my house, brought food, traps, etc...spend an evening at the house trying to help me trap the kittens. By this time they were too old to be socialized, could be trapped neutered and returned. We had no luck trapping them that evening. They told me how to get them to stay in the area so they could come out again to try to get the kitties. Again no luck...These are some of the most caring, gentle, loving women I have ever met...
Recently we lost our cat Penelope that had been in our lives for 17 years. After her passing my father spoke of getting another cat because of how lonely he was. My family had never adopted a pet before so I did some research using Petfinder, and found out the great rescues in the area. Northeast Animal Rescue was one of them. You could tell just by their website how dedicated they were to their cats in trying to find them the best homes. So after some time looking through the website my dad put in a application to adopt a cat. Two days later he got a phone call telling him he was approved. Jayme made the adoption process easy by talking with my dad thoroughly about what kind of cat he was looking for. She recommended to him Cherokee Rose a dilute calico cat with the personality he was looking for. They set up a date and time for my father to meet Cherokee Rose. We met Jayme at their Great Northeast Petsmart location so we could meet her. When you walk in the first thing on your left side is where some of their cats are kept and you can't miss them. At the time we arrived the volunteers were cleaning out the litter boxes, cages, giving them food, and the love and attention they deserve. We were taken into a back room to meet Cherokee Rose with one of the volunteers and Jayme. Right away my dad knew she was the one for him. She is so sweet, loving, gentle, and well behaved my dad was ecstatic. Jayme described Cherokee Rose to my dad exactly how she was. Jayme knows so much detail of each of her cats it is simply amazing. After the meeting, and my dad deciding to get her Jayme walked around with my father in the store to show him exactly what Cherokee liked as far as eating, and playing. You could tell that she takes the time with each of her cats in understanding them so that way they can go to a home fit perfectly for them. I was really surprised she did that, and it was a lot of help. She made the adoption go easy and not overwhelming. The volunteers were extremely nice, and friendly. I am glad we got Cherokee Rose from them. I would highly recommend Northeast Animal Rescue to anyone in the Philadelphia area. They are simply amazing and can not express how greatly I appreciate all that they did for my father, and for helping Cherokee Rose find her forever home.
Wonderful caring animal loving people with a small staff and great volunteers. We love our furbabies♥
I have adopted all my cats through this organization. NAR is an incredibly hard-working group of volunteers who are all totally committed to finding loving homes for cats in need while at the same time working to reduce the feral cat population.

I have adopted 5 cats from Northeast Animal Rescue over the past 8 or 9 years. NAR is an amazing rescue organization, so committed to ensuring that their rescued cats find loving forever homes. NAR undertakes to capture, spay/neuter and release feral cats in order to reduce the population of unwanted and homeless animals. This seemingly insurmountable task is undertaken with patience, love and determination! When placing their adoptable cats/kittens, the volunteers at NAR do a wonderful job of matching animal personalities to human personalities in order to ensure the best possible environment for the pet. When it comes to animal rescue organizations, NAR is a shining example of what it means to "rescue"!!
They are extremely friendly and clean. The cats always are playing outside of there cages for social interaction :)
I am not impressed with the Northeast Animal Rescue. In my opinion, they are not professional, taking too long to respond, and their decisions are biased. My recommendation: think hard before involving your heart in this organization.
Northeast Animal Rescue is a wonderful charity because they stay true to their mission and use every penny donated for their cause in reducing the feral cat population in Philadelphia and its surrounding counties. They are reactive in that they sometimes pull needy cats from local animal shelters to foster and find homes for them so they are not destroyed. I have fostered cats on behalf of NAR rather than the shelters because they are easier to contact than the shelters and far more cooperative. NAR is a proactive rescue also- they sterilize feral and stray cats. They educate the public and help people that feed colonies of feral cats get their fed cats surgically sterilized through the TNR process. I have had them personally help me trap cats to get sterilized preventing hundreds of more unwanted cats.
I adopted 2 wonderful cats from NAR they are wonderful and do so much for their rescues, they even took in to very sick kittens from a friend at after lots of vets bills got them well and forever homes:)
Amazing people, very professional, accommodating and friendly. I have already recommended this agency to numerous people. Keep up the good work!
Northeast Animal Rescue is a great group! They care so much about homeless cats that the volunteers spend several hours out of their busy weeks taking care of the cats--playing with them, cleaning their cages, talking to potential adopters. Adopters find that cats from NAR are so pleasant and friendly because the volunteers and "foster parents" show the cats so much love. I personally have benefited so much from this group--I enjoy being with the cats, talking to other cat-loving volunteers, and helping the cats find adopters. I am definitely lucky I found this great rescue, and so are all of the cats in its care. I hope NAR is able to keep caring for homeless cats for many years to come.
Our family has adopted two cats from this shelter. Both cats were in excellent health - one, a 3-year-old, the other, a 4 month-old kitten. They thrived and grew in our home until one day, the older one got out and didn't come back. He had developed a dental issue which he was treated for three different times. I'm afraid he may have gone away to die. As sad as it sounds, I think he didn't want us to find him. We loved him so much and still sometimes hold out some hope that he might find his way home. The other, is still growing happily in our home and does not go outside. The shelter is always clean and the volunteers there are wonderful and truly love their jobs. I would adopt from them again if I could. Wishing them all the luck in this challenge. An award is so well-deserved. Their love for animals, especially cats, is unlike any others! They even follow-up with their adoptive families to make sure their cats are doing well. You don't find that very often. 5 Stars!
I've kept in touch with this group since we adopted two kittens from them in 2007. They are everything you could ask from a rescue, dedicated, hard-working, and caring. The adoption process was thorough but went quickly and smoothly. Our intention at first was to adopt only one cat, Truffle. I am thrilled they talked us into adopting a second, Magic. I swear they taught Magic to jump into our cat carrier (just kidding). As I've followed their work, I continue to be super impressed with their high ethics and professionalism. This group will work relentlessly to do the right thing. As I read stories of the animals they rescue, the ones that make it and the ones that don't, I know it has to be heart-wrenching at times. NAR is a spot of light in a crazy world.
I've adopted three cats from Northeast Animal Rescue. I have found the volunteers to be professional, kind, caring and knowledgable about their cats and cats in general. I like the fact that NAR makes great strides to find their cats a home or a good foster placement. I wish every single one of their kitties would find a good home. For the price of adoption, the cats are spayed, up to date with shots(per their age) and microchipped and you cannot beat that kind of care!
I would tell anyone who lives in the Philadelphia/Bucks County & surrounding areas to make NAR their first stop in adopting a cat.
In 2009, we experienced the loss of our beloved, rescued 16-year-old cat and wanted to honor his memory by opening our hearts and home to another kitty. We added not one, but two beloved members (who were brothers themselves!) to our family with the help of this amazing organization.
I can't say enough good things about the importance of their mission and the critical role they play in bringing love and light to the lives of homeless cats in Northeast Philadelphia and the surrounding area.
As we were preparing our application, I was grateful for the wise counsel from the group's founder in finding a perfect feline match. Post-adoption, I was so glad for the support that my cats' foster mom provided. The cats arrived at our house completely adored and lovingly cared-for. We are still in touch and I am indebted to her for being my babies' first mom. This kind of personalized experience is a signature feature of NAR's exemplary work.
We are fortunate to have found NAR - they have brought joy to us and to so many others. Their commitment and dedication to the cause of animal rescue is simply extraordinary.
Northeast Animal Rescue is a great organization providing a desperately needed service to the area. As a common trend, animal shelters around the country find themselves beyond capacity and turn to euthanasia as more animals come in seeking shelter. Northeast Animal Rescue shelters cats from around the area in foster homes rather than keeping them in tiny cages for days at a time. NAR has many caring and loving foster families that are willing to donate their time and money into finding forever homes for unwanted cats that are deserving of good homes. NAR is able to show the cats they have available for adoption at a local PetSmart shop in N.E. Philadelphia. That is where my husband and I went to meet some of the cats they had available for adoption in 2008. My husband's 17 year old cat had passed away due to aging and wanted nothing more than a cat for his birthday that year. Rather than looking to buy a cat from a pet store, we turned to adoption agencies. NAR came up in my search around the internet for agencies that were not only in the area but also had a convenient way/place to meet adoptable cats. When we met Jayme and some of the foster families at the N.E. Philadelphia PetSmart, we were amazed by how involved everyone was in not only the well-being of the cats, but also knowing their personalities and being able to share those details with potential adopters such as ourselves. We got to sit in the room with some of the sweet cats they had at the store from NAR while the foster families gave us details about each of the cats we looked at/interacted with. After having so many wonderful cats to choose from, we came down to one cat that seemed to tug at both of our hearts. Because NAR doesn't want to hastily adopt out cats to homes that may not be able to care for the cats, they require applications to be filled out by potential adopters. This is a great thing for both the cats and NAR. By finding out more information about potential adopters, NAR can find the best homes for the cats they foster. Even if it means not adopting out a cat to an adopter that is not suitable, NAR operates on the basic principle that they act on the best interests of the cats they foster. NAR is the kind of animal adoption agency that needs to be in every town across the country. They are a fantastic organization and have the most amazing volunteers. I recommend NAR to every single person I come across that is looking to adopt a cat.
As a side note, the cat we adopted from NAR in 2008 is a happy and healthy rambunctious cat that spends most of time playing with our older cat who is a grumpy old curmudgeon. They make the most perfect pair, especially when they curl up together on a bed somewhere in the house, as if they were siblings from birth. It was the best match ever, thanks to NAR!
I adopted a six month old kitten from NAR in January 2011. I met them at PetSmart where they do their adoptions. They reviewed me as much as I reviewed the cat which is good. I was specifically looking for a rescue in foster care since I figure the cat would adjust better and also good with dogs. I met the foster parent, the NAR person and we reviewed everything about the cat and I took him. He's been great. About 3 months after getting him, he started spraying because we had painters there. I panicked and emailed NAR at about 5 AM and they got back to me around 630AM with how to handle the situation and offering all the help in the world. I really respect that kind of follow up and continuing support for my adopted cat. It's almost a year and he's doing just fine. Heck, he hasn't even shredded anything yet which just seems odd but who is complaining.
My husband and I adopted a cat from NE Animal rescue almost a year ago. The introduction to "Tara" and all follow up contacts were professional and thorough. The Rescue provided us with complete medical records and history and offered care instructions. It was understood that Tara could always be returned to the Rescue if she was not compatible with us or our cat at home.
Our contact at the Rescue is always available to answer questions, and she is knowledgable and caring. Initially, there were problems between Tara and our cat, Pooter. Cindy offered valuable information to solve this issue. She is interested in knowing how Tara is doing and appreciates receiving photographs and updates.
I have know of Northeast Animal Rescue since November 2010. I have adopted two kittens from NAR. The first kitten was abandoned as a newborn and brought in to NAR - she was very sickly, and was diagnosed with a congenital or genetic neurological problem -- between my care and the good care of NAR, the little kitten lived a wonderful 10 months that it would not have otherwise. I now have a second kitten that it healthy, happy and quite a handful... I know that the NAR folks take care for many cats that are not easily adoptable (blind, with defects, etc) and I commend their dedication, effort and emotional connection to their cats!
I've known the founder of NAR for many years and have watched her grow this rescue from the roots up. The NAR team of volunteers works tirelessly to find loving families for homeless cats in the Philadelphia area and to control the feral cat population while educating the public about the importance of spay/neuter. They also help to find low cost spay/neuter services within the community.
I'm a long-time volunteer with NAR as well as an adopter. Northeast Animal Rescue is just the best!
I first came into contact with Northeast Animal Rescue when I was looking to adopt a cat. I was impressed immediately with the operation, all volunteers seemed to hold exceptionally high ethical standards and the focus was not on moving the animals into homes quickly, but on finding the appropriate home for each pet. I was even a little alarmed that I wouldn't pass the rigorous screening process!! Ultimately, the time and energy spent on screening potential adopters yields long term placement, and during my subsequent time with NAR as a volunteer I have heard of very few unsuccessful adoptions. I began volunteering with NAR about seven months ago, and I am impressed with the constant communication between volunteers and the high standards set for work performed by all volunteers. The cleanliness, comfort and care for the animals is the number one priority. I would encourage anyone looking to adopt a pet to contact the Northeast Animal Rescue, the volunteers have a great knowledge base of the animals in their care, and they are honest with potential adopters about issues concerning each pet, and will give honest feedback about an animal's temperament and behaviors. The process is lengthier than with an animal shelter or a pet store, but the quality and care is exceptional!
Without the help of Northeast Animal Rescue, I don't know what I would have done to help a feral Mom cat and her kittens that were in my yard. Northeast Animal Rescue lent me a trap, something I had never done before and I got all the kittens and the Mom cat. Had the Mom spayed and NAR found foster homes for the kittens. It takes a very dedicated rescue to help a total stranger, it's now years later I'm also a member of NAR. Education is the key to helping the over population of stray cats and kittens. No cat or kitten gets adopted without being spayed or neutered. And NAR does their best to educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering their pets.
NAR is a great organization that aims to care for, rehabilitate and find loving homes for homeless cats. They are a no kill shelter and take in as many strays and unwanted cats as possible even though they survive solely on donations. The animals all get a clean bill of health from a veterinarian and then are placed in a foster home or into the cat home at Petsmart where they can gain exposure to possible adopters. These cats are all known and loved as individuals with their own personalities by the foster homes and volunteers that care for them. A picture, stats and in depth description of each cat is placed in the adoption "cat book" at Petsmart and also on the website so that potential adopters can learn as much as possible about the animal to ensure the right fit into their home. NAR also does a terrific job with the trap and release program in which feral cats are trapped, spayed or neutered and then released. This helps to ensure that even though these feral cats are unadoptable, they at least won't continue to breed and enlarge an ever growing and out of control population of strays.I am so happy that I am able to volunteer my time to an organization that really helps the animals that it takes in and helps to bring joy to the lives of many cats that otherwise may not survive and would never know the love of a good home.
