Review for Northeast Animal Rescue, Philadelphia, PA, USA
I first came into contact with Northeast Animal Rescue when I was looking to adopt a cat. I was impressed immediately with the operation, all volunteers seemed to hold exceptionally high ethical standards and the focus was not on moving the animals into homes quickly, but on finding the appropriate home for each pet. I was even a little alarmed that I wouldn't pass the rigorous screening process!! Ultimately, the time and energy spent on screening potential adopters yields long term placement, and during my subsequent time with NAR as a volunteer I have heard of very few unsuccessful adoptions. I began volunteering with NAR about seven months ago, and I am impressed with the constant communication between volunteers and the high standards set for work performed by all volunteers. The cleanliness, comfort and care for the animals is the number one priority. I would encourage anyone looking to adopt a pet to contact the Northeast Animal Rescue, the volunteers have a great knowledge base of the animals in their care, and they are honest with potential adopters about issues concerning each pet, and will give honest feedback about an animal's temperament and behaviors. The process is lengthier than with an animal shelter or a pet store, but the quality and care is exceptional!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Upon adopting my pets: Whisper and Kiva. I was able to spend ample time with each cat prior to taking them home, so there were no surprises after taking them in. I couldn't be happier with the process.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I'm not sure that I would make changes to the function of the organization. Everything seems to run very well. However, I'm always surprised that people aren't more aware of NAR. If anything I would attempt to increase awareness of the organization.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the commitment to finding forever homes for the pets.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
sometimes intense! But committed to the work.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
run forever. I would hate to see it expand too far, because for me the greatest value is the relationships between foster "parents" and their animals.
Ways to make it better...
it was great!
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
not enough public awareness. If people knew what they were doing, they would solely adopt cats through them.
One thing I'd also say is that...
I think I've said a lot!! I'm running out! :-)
