Mission: New Visions, New Ventures provides women with the knowledge, skills, resources and the confidence necessary to achieve economic independence and financial security.
Programs: The Women's Business Center (WBC) at New Visions, New Ventures is one of approximately 100 WBC's affiliated with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) nationwide and one of two such WBC's located in Virginia. As a WBC, New Visions, New Ventures receives partial financial support from the U.S. Small Business Administration with other sources of support being obtained from the community. The WBC assists women in achieving their dreams and improving their communities by helping them start and run successful businesses, regardless of their social or financial disadvantage, race, ethnicity or business background. Some of the services offered include:
- Education and Training - Classes and workshops focus on a wide range of topics around business start-ups and existing business expansions. Areas of assistance include the basics of starting a business, business planning, marketing, management, procurement and financing.
- Business Counseling - the WBC offers free one-on-one counseling for small businesses in terms of business exploration, starting a business, and expanding a business.
- Access to Capital - Counselors advise and assist clients regarding small business financing and the process for completing small business loan applications. NVNV is a technical assistance loan provider for the U.S. Small Business Administration's Community Express Loans and ACCION USA.
- Computer and Internet Access: NVNV has a computer lab which is open daily to assist those clients who would otherwise be unable to obtain access to a computer.
- Specialized Industry Initiatives - this initiative identifies small business owners in an industry (such as construction), determines needs and designs programs in response to their findings. The goal is to connect women contractors to resources and expertise necessary to successfully pursue procurement opportunities.
