the nehemiah neighborhood revitalization program (nrp) was initiated in september 2010. Under this program, the nehemiah companies obtain distressed single family residences, usually from banks and institutional owners. The homes are rehabilitated to fha standards, and sold to low- to moderate-income home buyers. This provides a significant value to communities by rehabbing vacant houses, thus improving neighborhoods. In addition, by restricting sales to low to moderate income home buyers, such buyers are able to purchase a house without competing with all-cash investors, which have become a significant force in the market, often preventing home buyers from completing a purchase when they must rely on conventional financing.
wayup sacramento is a vehicle for mobilizing residents and community organizations in oak park to work together on pragmatic, affordable, and innovative solutions to priority needs. The heart of wayups continuum of solutions is a unique synergy between education and health - vital but fragmented systems representing vast funding streams now under pressure. By realigning how our education and health partners reach, serve, educate, support, and partner with children and families, wayup seeks to provide solid guardrails on a lifelong path from prenatal-through-college-to-career. Furthermore, by strengthening how health improves education and how education improves health - by reframing each as a service delivery ally and partner for each other - we seek the system improvements and economies that will sustain and scale our initiative far into the future. In addition to health and education, wayup also focuses on resident empowerment, leadership development, and community and economic development to break the cycle of poverty that impedes student achievement.
