National Medical Fellowships Inc

NMF is an incredible organization that offers a well structured 2mo. healthcare immersion program for underrepresented senior medical students in two countries of Africa. I participated in Ghana and while there, I learned through first hand interactions with patients, providers, and national administrators of the challenges and benefits of their newly created national health plan. We also assisted General Electric, a cosponsor, in their equipment and community needs assessment, which gave us much greater insight to the challenges of effectively delivering equipment to regions with poor infrastructure. From a medical perspective, I provided care in the pediatric and obstetrics wards, learning of and treating conditions I had only read of in the U.S. I was also able to conduct a public health centered research project that may soon lead to better neonatal outcomes in the district I served. Through this program, I learned a great deal about myself, effective philanthropy, and the sacredness of my chosen profession. It was without a doubt the most useful two months of my 4yr basic medical education. p.s. It was well structured, supported, and receptive of feedback.

NMF is a phenomenal organization and that provided me an opportunity that allowed me to attain my dream of becoming the first member in my family to obtain a medical degree. The NMF awarded me $16, 000 in scholarships at a critical point, and when I had no where else to turn. However, the organization is not one of a kind because of the financial awards granted to the recipients, they are simply amazing because of the people that hold the organization. I am thankful to Ms. Angela Minaya and the NMF organization for their support, kindness and generosity. Hopefully, in a few years after the completion of residency and fellowships, I will be able to return the favor through mentoring and financial assistance to underprivileged budding physician, and assist them in realizing their dream. In my opinion, we need organizations such as the NMF to grow and assist aspiring youths that have a dream but are unable to their dreams because of financial limitations. This is a great organization and I am grateful for its existence. My communications and dealings with NMF were handled professionally and in a timely manner. The organization fulfills a great need.

NMF helped me pay for medical school. The requirement was to write an essay and send in my transcripts and CV. To be competitive you must demonstrate social responsibility. This is a highly valuable service for minorities. NMF is commited to helping minorities become physicians despite the financial fear that often holds people back. I am grateful for this scholarship and this organization.

I have dreamed of attending medical school ever since I was young, never letting my humble beginnings deter me from my goal. As a recipient of the National Medical Fellowship Scholarship, my dream is becoming a reality. I am glad to have the opportunity to express personally my appreciation of their generosity. Without scholarship funds like them, there would be many students such as myself unable to pursue the career they've dreamed of. Without a doubt, that award proved to be extremely valuable for me, by helping to reduce the financial burdens of pursuing a degree in medicine. I hope to be able to contribute to the medical community in the near future by pursing a career in Psychiatry.

This fellowship helped me fund my first and second year of medical school. It is truly a generous organization, helping minorities achieve their dreams!

NMF staff and program (GE NMF medical scholarship) is one of the best organizations that I have seen efficiently run. There was a structured outline and expectations of the program from the beginning to the end. The staff was always available for questions or concerns. Not once in Ghana did I feel that I was alone because all the support provided functioned well and above my expectations.
