Programs: Myles of great hopes accomplished two projects in the year 2010. 1st project was a water tank with capacity of 10,000 liters of clean water to il-bissil primary school in kajiado-kenya. The water tank is serving more than 738 students and teaching staff. More information is on the website. Project cost was $2,063 us dollars. 2nd project was a water tank with capacity of 5,000 liters of water for a salvation army in runyenje's-kenya. The church members and families benefits from drinking clean water harvested from rooftops, unlike the previous dirty water from the nearby river - itimbogo. This project cost was $480 us dollars. 3rd, in 2011, our organization did a dinner fundraiser that helped to donate 1000 us dollars to go purchase bibles for distribution for hope restoration church international (hrci), kasarani kenya. 85 bibles were purchased thereby helping 85 families. In actual sense, this project is benefiting more than 300 members considering one family unit has at least 4 members. In year 2012, myles of great hopes (mogh), received a donation in kind (water bubbler ozonater machine) from water reclaim inc - wake forest nc. That piece of equipment was shipped to kenya and donated to bissil girls high school, a girls boarding school with more than 400 students. The bubbler machine helps to ozonate the water, purifying it by eradicating all the pathogens thereby eliminating many chances of the students falling ill/sick from chorela, typhoid, and other water borne diseases. We held a fundraiser in october, family and friends gathered with small contributions in efforts of wanting to send medical team to rural kenya and also support 16 needy and widowed women with a 16 cows project for january 2013. The fundraiser resources were spent on the cow project and a workshop for the elderly by two of our volunteer members. In total, more than 100 hundred people were said to have benefited from mogh services following this. In other words, the 16 self help women group received cow each, mastered seed academy received 300 dollars, thunguma church received 300 dollars donation and a healthy diet eating conference was held for the elderly people by ms. Alice munyua - rn-nc, and dr. / pastor patrick njiraini - phd, both volunteers with the organization. In 2017, myles of great hopes hosted few fundraisers such as art wine and design, quarter auction, 5k fun run fun walk, potluck dinner and a gala dinner and had a successful year. We accomplished a borehole rehabilitation project at ilbissil girls secondary school in kajiado. We sent 4000 usd and contracted local electrician, as well as the kenya power and lighting company to install the power and help pump the water from underground. The cost to this project was more than 4,000 usd but school took some small financial ownership of the project, including some sweat equity.
in this year 2013, the funds $ 3700 were allocated to the purchasing of the cows for the widowed women. This took place in january month. The group also received some sun glasses for eyes and an educations seminar. Madam alice munyua took a leading role on this part. Other events just broke even and we saw them as just pr for the young organization. In the year 2013, the said amount of funds above $3700 were wisely spend in purchasing of cows for the widowed women. All other donations as described reached to the targeted groups, we took pictures of which we shared with the community. Isaac kuria, this february of 2014 travelled to kenya on a mission to meet beneficiaries of our efforts, do evaluation analysis of projects done and assess more needs for our future projects. Isaac spent more than $2000 dollars of his personal money this year 2014 between the air ticket etc. Isaac also was hosted on a national tv where he discussed about the organizations vision. In 2017, our treasurer submitted through wells fargo wire funds transfer $4,000 usd for ilbissil girls high school water borehole rehabilitation project. Funds came from our partnership with the sacred heart cathedral - global outreach group and were used to fix the broken generator, convert it from diesel to electrical powered machine, buy items necessary to full operation of the machine, pay local electrician, kenya power and lighting company to come and install power. The place required some several electrical poles, cables, etc. Benefits to school is now water is flowing for drinking to the more than 570 girls in the boarding school plus teaching staff and other employees. Also, water is used for sustainable agriculture on school hot cultural irrigation drips, cabbages, tomatoes, onions etc for school meal program thereby saving schools expenditure etc. Also helps to improve girls skillful trade in food production and agriculture/science/homescience projects for better educational programming etc. In this year alone, we experienced in-kind donations worth more than 7,000 usd that we did not have to pay from the organizations account. Isaac spent 925 usd in contributions and in kind towards the organization in the year. Things like food by fresh market for 5k, water, goal post for start and finish for 5k, renee and john sponsored that project, awards gift cards by omega sports, design work for marketing, face painting by nova creatura, photography, skillful volunteers and venue sponsorship by the knights of columbus etc. We remain very appreciative by all our donors and supporters
also, myles of great hopes formed partnership with ymca nakuru branch in kenya. We donated 330 dollars towards the purchase of a milking cow so the students could use it during chai - tea time. Ymca branch nakuru has a high school with a composition of very needy cases. They provide lunch program to the students and the cows milk will offset their budget, save, and be able to sustain an extra student. The goal is to get them at least two more cows. This project was done in february 2015 so we have not calculated the 330 funds on this return until next year. We are working with school principal and project manager julius okoth and john wamukoya respectively. .
in year 2014, mogh accomplished the goal of partnering with the little carol foundation in nyeri town - kenya and donated 700 dollars to the identified families. In our efforts of supporting health initiatives and education for children, joining hands with little carol foundation to support sick women with hiv aids, and kids in similar cases was very significant. Research on projects to undertake, and in consultation with alice munyua and other members on the ground, we identified this as a needy group worth supporting. The 700 dollars bought 5 goats for five families, and we advanced soft loans of kshs. 5000 kenya shillings (about usd60 dollars) to same people so they could succeed by doing small road side trading and allow the kids to drink the milk as was intended. Our director on the ground professor mary muchiri is happy with progress so far. One year later (2015), isaac travelled to witness and evaluate. Children are drinking milk, gaining their health back, parents have become more independent and are benefiting from this project and even some going an extra mile after making economic gains. We are about sustainability. During our proud of my culture event at sanderson high school, 600 dollars of the proceeds was saved for our capital project - the water well ibissil township primary school kajiado bore hole. Our organization is working in partnership with the sacred heart cathedral in raleigh in helping this project take hold as part of their global initiative. Our plans is to continue fundraising and specifically for this water well project so it can get done
myles of great hopes always gives back to the local community here in raleigh - triangle area by engaging youth in positive activities and conferences. On december 14th 2014, we partnered with the sorority of the raleigh alumnae chapter delta sigma theta sorority, inc. , the international awareness and the development, education, leadership, talent & achievement carousel (delta) committees at a forum where we spearheaded a cultural education in african values & traditions for a close to 50 american students both middle and high scholars here in raleigh nc. In supporting education as a core program to our organization, we realize that giving back to the community we live in is very fundamental in bridging and promoting our steadily growing diverse society. We touched on topic like heritage, traditions, culture, food, geography, music, people, communication and this was very valuable to everyone. We therefore measure our success by adding value to our community and remaining relevant. In addition, we continued to form relationships with local businesses and schools and the general public. During our proud of my culture in apex, wells fargo bank joined hands with us and communicated to our audience on multiple products and services they offer. They supported us in kind. Staples inc. In cary - harrison avenue helped with printing fliers, business cards saving us some money. Schools such as weatherstone elementary handful children via their parents permission can and partcipated on the program, apex high school orchestra band via instructor/parents permission joined us and finally, we partnered with nc state university center for student leadership, ethics & public service. All this efforts will advance and culminate and achieve our organization goals of sustainability, hope, and economic empowerment as we seek to fulfil our objectives. We therefore count this as a great accomplishments that cannot be measured by money
in 2015, we accomplished few collaborations important to our cause in partnering with groups embracing our cause. 1. We partnered with the raleigh sister cities - cares about global peace and therefore our water and community empowerment through sanitation and culture appreciation were key areas. 2. We partnered with broughton high school. In this case, they sponsored our proud of my culture heritage show, a diverse multi-country cultural show that saw more than seven nations come together and present on stage special skills in music, dance, art, and social sharing which promoted that all of us as unified under the common good. Isaac presented on stage the water crises in kenya, cause and effects and many people were encouraged to continue making a difference. The report from world health organization indicated around the globe, water affects all the countries irrespective or developed or developing and was an eye opener to some young students in the auditorium. Isaac also presented to different students in their classrooms at broughton high school on a ted talk as well as as wiley elementary school in raleigh. This event was made possible by 100% venue sponsorship by the bhh but we still had expenses to deal with such as tshirts, snacks, dj, printing, printing flyers for promotions/advertisements and other logistical things and miscellaneous. .
june 2016 - isaac kuria & lucy kuria, both volunteers traveled to kenya to help with an educational fundraiser through a partnership with nakuru branch ymca. In preparation, the organization partnered with restoring vision, and with minimum shipping and processing fee of 60 dollars, they sent us 100 pairs of reading glasses to go donate. We donated glasses to more than 60 individuals. Remaining glasses were left behind to be distributed, all for free. In kenya, the 10km fun run fun walk was successful but met some challenges being the first event in the country. We did not break even because of logistics, some costs we could not escape such as pa system technical crew, t-shirts, some aspects of promotions, etc. On average, those costs were around 807 dollars. Good news, with direct support from lucy kuria, cynthia received $143 dollars towards her educational school fees and was guaranteed a free scholarship through this initiative. Lucy is the lead director on this project, lucy also paid her own air ticket. The out of pocket expenses and including air ticket isaac spent was $1,640 dollars for the year. The purpose of kenya travel was to lead the 10km event. The 10km in nakuru received local tv coverage - ntv. We did set the stage for the ymca to do the same each year. August 2016 - alice munyua, our group medical lead director led a medical mission trip to kenya. The focus was in three locations and the following were accomplished. I) in narok, a local village was the beneficially for the students educational support in materials such books, pencils, toys for little kids dabbed as back to school. Alice also led a health medical clinic, discussed water sanitation, healthy eating etc. The priority for this region is clean water assistance. Ii) in eldoret, mama salome's school for street children was discussed and supported. We hired teacher for the street boys, teacher gets financial support each month to keep up with the program. It's an effort bearing fruit as we speak. And iii) in nyeri, mrs. Mary muchiri, a former professor at kimathi university and the director of the little carol foundation, through a partnership program with a local children home both agreed to increase the street children program at the center so many could get help. Some of the kids were little girls with tough circumstances'. This three programs were successful, total cost was $1,520 dollars. 3. Our local efforts in fundraising for water for kenya helped us to save $1,200 dollars through the proud of my culture program. Our organization has a partnership with the sacred heart cathedral in raleigh and we had a goal of consolidating funds to one account. This $1,200 dollars was earmarked for the water project to a school in kajiado, an effort that has been ongoing. 4. Our efforts to have a good administration with local volunteer directors and remain at good standing with local authorities, we started a process of getting registered as a group. The total cost to this process $383 dollars.
