For 25 years, Rise Against Hunger has been working toward a vision of zero hunger. I had the opportunity to participate in the organization's hands-on meal packaging events from a young age, which inspired me to get involved in the mission to end world hunger. It is inspiring to see that the organization has expanded its programs beyond meal distribution to create sustainable solutions to hunger in communities worldwide. Rise Against Hunger is building a global movement of people to end hunger -- because without people around the world taking action, zero hunger cannot become a reality.

Going downhill quickly. It’s obvious they are struggling with growth and their identity. It seems like they’ve poured their resources into changing their name and logo and pretty language, but forgot to invest in their people and product. Somebody needs to fire their marketing and sales departments so they can focus on being great again and not just pandering for more dollars.

I have had the opportunity to be a part of several meal pkg events.
I also have spent time with several key leaders of SHN.
Their passion and devotion to end world hunger inspires me to believe we can do it.
Their actions and team show it will happen.

Our events are always high energy, fun, and educational. Pat, from the Jackson, MS office, always works extremely hard to run successful events. Because of Pat and his team, Stop Hunger Now is a household name among churches in Mississippi.

Stop Hunger Now is well organized and efficient. Our packaging event was a huge success and tons of fun for everyone, including the kids. It was a great opportunity for our next generation to learn about giving and how blessed they are. The approach that Stop Hunger Now has of feeding the mind as well as the tummy will make an impact on future generations. Our family will continue to give our time and money.

The event I volunteer with is a joint church event in Fredericksburg, Va. It's like a big party! Complete with gongs at every 1,000 meals packed! So many people help to uplift and organize to create on huge mass revival in the form of a massive assembly line. Last year we packaged 40,000 meals in under 3 hours. This Saturday we're aiming for 50,000 meals! What a fun time to fellowship and make an even bigger impact on global hunger.

I live in Raleigh and have noticed an increase in the number of establishments that I frequent and organizations that I am a part of joining forces with this non-profit. As a result, I looked into their history and their accomplishments and am rather impressed. I work in a large manufacturing facility and corporate responsibility is a huge part of who we are. I will definitely be looking into planning a meal packaging event with my company to not only satisfy our social giving agenda, but also bring our team together and raise awareness of everything we can do to combat extreme poverty here at home.

This organization is so much more than just hunger...
In efforts to donate to my dear friends' mission trip to Haiti, I held a shoe drive among my friends, family & coworkers. Approximately 750 pairs of shoes were collected, most from precious children at a local church. What an amazing response! The children were so excited & the cause touched each family's heart in special ways. How in the world would my friend or I be able to ship this bundle of shoes to Haiti? SHN provided the way by allowing the shoes to travel in empty spaces in their containers. It was a great feeling knowing that SHN cared so much to get them where they needed to go!

Last week our company, Regulator Marine sponsored a SHN event at our manufacturing plant. We worked with the SNH staff to have them here at noon for preparation. They were on time, organized and professional. within 45 minutes we were set up and on time to start our event at 1pm. For the event, we shut down production so everyone could participate.

After a short introduction from the SHN leader, we said an opening prayer and all 70+ employees worked together to package over 10,200 meals in only 50 minutes.
The event turned into a great time of fellowship for our entire team along with helping thousands of people.

By 2:15pm everything was cleaned, packed and everyone was back to work.
This was a great experience for all involved. By including the entire team in the packaging, this became so much more than the typical corporate gift, it was a way for everyone to see the importance of giving back and volunteering.

I have worked with SHN multiple times in the past few years as both a volunteer and packing event planner for my church. Every point of contact I have experienced, from the marketing team to warehouse personnel, have been extremely well organized and professional. Would recommend working with this organization to plan an event. Their events include opportunities for all age groups to get involved to help stop the global hunger issue.

While searching out a local charity with a global vision I came across Stop Hunger Now. Keeping it short, I am very impressed of what the founder Ray Buchanan has accomplished in a short period of time. They have perfected the meal for not only crisis feeding but also in sustainment feeding as well. I feel my donations are making a difference as hundreds die of starvation daily.

I had the opportunity to work with Pastor Chris Singleton and the Stop Hunger Now Project about a year ago. I work with at-risk kids and it was an opportunity for them to look outside of themselves and to do something that would be a a blessing to others... others that they don't even know. For me, and for the youth I serve, it was life changing. Most of them will never have a chance to do real "mission work" in this sense. It gave them a chance to give back. Pastor Chris was wonderful in explaining the concept, vision and mission of Stop Hunger Now and how important this ministry truly is. Can't wait for our next opportunity to work together.

I interned with Stop Hunger Now for several months. My focus was primarily on marketing and development -- researching grant opportunities, increasing brand awareness, growing their social media presence and engagement rate, etc.

Stop Hunger Now works toward such an amazing mission and it's backed by an inspiring staff to boot. I've working, interned and volunteered for many non-profits of various sizes in a wide-range of field, but I've never worked with a group of employees so collectively passionate and personally committed to the cause and movement they work for. Stop Hunger Now is not merely a 9-5 commitment where employees take off their "working hat" when the working day is done. With such full-time advocates on board, you know the work they are doing is not only worthwhile, but meaningful and impactful -- otherwise why would individuals fight so hard for it even in their unpaid, spare time and everyday life?

Needless to say, what Stop Hunger Now has accomplished is amazing. Harnessing the power of local volunteers using locally sourced items (and thus being able to raise awareness of hunger issues and an army of supporters here in the US by doing so), SHN is able to feed millions in developing countries in need of sustenance and nutrition. I could go on and on about their feats, but I'll wrap it up by saying the work and vision being completed by SHN is necessary and they've filled the void for an answer to hunger in a big way. I'm proud to support them and their cause.

I interned for Stop Hunger Now a few years ago and it was one of my most memorable work experiences I've had so far! I learned about them after a university meal-packaging event and I decided I was going to get involved. It's always intimidating walking in on your first day, but Nina put me right at ease. It was a great experience getting a look into the day-to-day functioning of a non-profit, and I have nothing but the highest respect for the work SHN does!

I have volunteered for STOP Hunger Now since the first event at our church 6 or 7 years ago. For those who want to know where the food is shipped and whether it was consumed, all you have to do is ask! Since our first packaging event, the organization has improved the product and reduced waste. The plastic bags are now reusable and don't end up in the landfill as often. I feel that virtually 100% of my time and money goes to help feed hungry families in some of the most impoverished countries of the world. The best part is that children and adults of all ages can participate in the packaging events.
Great organization and deserving of support!

I started volunteering with SHN through my Church. As an adult youth volunteer I went to many events and had a great time, The events are easy, quick, have great music and if run properly just a touch chaotic. After several years I volunteered to run events and now run 2-3 events a month. I'm the guy that arrives with a truck of ingredients, bins, funnels etc., helps you set up, talks a few minutes, loads the packaged food back up and drives it to the warehouse. I live in Raleigh where SHN was founded and we packaged 3.5 million meals last year (85M to date for all SHN locations!). They don't sit in the warehouse we couldn't afford the storage :-). Every few weeks we load up a container with 285,000 meals and out it goes to a partner organization. A few months ago Rev Solomon who runs a school in Uganda and also the warehouse that supports 9 other schools came to one of my events. It was an event with 450 third graders and he was very moved to see kids packaging meals for his students. This is typical, an in country partner provides a secure warehouse to store up to a years worth of meals and distributes the meals. Stop Hunger Now visits partners periodically to verify this. As far as I know no meals are handled by any government (occasionally we donate after a disaster like the Haiti earthquake - that may be an exception - not sure). BTW SHN is not designed to provide short term relief the reason 95% of the meals go to schools and orphanages is that by concentrating on the kids being in school, their economics change in many ways from being better educated to having less children this is how the cycle of poverty is broken. SHN's vision is to "End Hunger in Our Lifetime". One more thing SHN has grown almost exclusively by word of mouth, almost no marketing or advertising. You pay $0.25/meal when you run an event almost 100% goes to the food, running the event and the warehouse. Visit the web site!

Our church has spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of man hours packaging this rice/soy mixture with vitamins added. I have the same question about the recipients. I would feel better if I knew specifically recipients (where and when) they received these packages and if they actually ate and enjoyed the food mixtures. I fear that the food is sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

Lots of meals are packed in the US for distribution, but I have never found out (1) if all these meals actually make it to the intended destination, and (2) whether these meals are actually consumed by the intended targets. I am sure that this info is available, but not readily accessible.

I volunteered with Service NC State in Raleigh NC and we packaged meals for Stop Hunger Now. It was such a fun experience! The CEO spoke at our event and his passion and love for this organizations mission drove everyone to work hard and exceed our packaging goal! The packaging in itself was a lot of fun. It was a race to see how quick we could pack the meals, and they rang a gong every 1,000 meals to let us know our progress! They played fun upbeat music to keep our momentum going. It was a great activity for all our students and I think people of all ages could do this. The program really makes you feel like you are making a difference because you are physically packaging the meals that will be eaten around the globe. Awesome charity! I recommend it completely!
