Mission: To assist in creating economic development opportunities, and to encourage and assist technological innovation by businesses, in the city of westminster, md and surrounding environs, and to do anything else permitted by the corporation and associations law of the state of maryland.
Programs: 1. 1. Initiated virtual incubator program. Inducted two businesses. One business currently provides health care analytics to private employers to improve the quality of employee health benefit plans. We are assisting the firm in introducing this capability to the us veteran's administration and state medical groups. The second business is in phase 2 of a dod small business innovation research effort. We have caused the company to expand their technology base to health care. 2. Continued to develop a smart home project in partnership with a non-profit which serves the intellectually disabled through residential group homes and job training. The project completely digitizes the administration of the group home. It introduces sensors and diagnostics to facilitate the resident's health care. Connectivity with the clinicians and hospitals has been established implementing telemedicine. The beta phase program serves 2 group homes with six clients and 19 staff members. The johns hopkins applied physics lab has joined this project as a partner. 3. Also in partnership with the johns hopkins applied physics lab, we conducted 2 capture the flag events which included all of the libraries in maryland as well as sites in ammon, idaho and wilson, nc. These events provide training for students in the cybersecurity and in depth networking fields. The total served population has been 163 individuals. 4. We conducted a four day hackathon event in which students are trained in developing and fielding applications for digital devices. The results are judged by a panel of venture capitalists. Two of the teams have successfully commercialized their applications.
