Mission: Nationwide, there are nearly one million substantiated cases of child abuse and neglect annually, including about 1,400 children who die as a result of abuse. It is estimated that another six million cases go unreported. MetroCap's school programs focus on empowering children with strategies to protect their personal safety and help them to avoid the physical and emotional suffering caused by prolonged abuse and neglect. We also offer programs for adults, since they are critical to preventing violence against children. MetroCap teaches parenting skills, stress management and conflict resolution. We also prepare parents, caregivers, teachers and community members to be "trusted adults," who provide safe environments for children to disclose abuse and help victimized children to safety. Founded in 1994, MetroCap has served more than 100,000 children and more than 20,000 teachers and school personnel. We have helped over 1,300 children address serious concerns regarding their personal safety and helped make linkages to child protective agencies for more than 300 of them.
