Mission: The maryland association for environmental and outdoor education maeoe encourages, engages and empowers the community to understand, responsibly use and promote the natural world. Maeoe is a nonprofit educational association, serving thousands of teachers, natural resource manages, nature center staff and others with dynamic training programs.
Programs: Maryland green school program and youth summit: maeoe manages and operates the maryland green school and green center programs. In 2016/17 there were 585 maryland green schools and 42 green centers that participated in maeoe programs involving and engaging approximately 225,000 students, teachers, parents and citizens. Maeoe awards maryland green school status through a rigorous application process. Applications are reviewed each year with stakeholder input. In the 2016/17 we provided workshops for green centers, green leaders, formal and non-formal educators. Our green centers and green leaders (60 volunteers) support teachers and students in various aspects of the md green schools process including successfully implementing sustainable environmental practices at schools. The 7th annual youth summit had nearly 3000 students and chaperones in attendance, the theme was ? Beyond the bricks. ? annual conference: annual conference: in february 2017, maeoe held its 32nd annual conference, ? Investigate & create: the science and art of environmental education? In towson, md with a focus on bringing together science and art in environmental education. Participants from maryland, virginia, pennsylvania, west virginia, delaware and the district of columbia attended. The four day conference provided professional development and networking opportunities to over 600 teachers, non-formal educators, administrators, resource personnel, and others. The conference provided 30 full-day and half-day workshops and 60 sessions. noaa bwet funding school grounds for learning, year 4. This was a no cost extension and was funded by the noaa-bwet grant program and supported bya partnership between us fish & wildlife service and maeoe in cooperation with the maryland state department of education and the maryland department of natural resources and with invaluable support from national and regional partner organizations and topical experts. The project has produced training resources for hybrid training, online resources on the maeoe website, and over 100 project resources on the baybackpack. Com website. School project topics include: clean water, conserve resources, healthy school environment, projects to encourage outdoor play and learning, and wildlife habitat projects.
