Mission: To transform education by starting young, involving parents, and creating learning environments to inspire children from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
Programs: Lumin education was founded in 1978 and serves more than 550 children and their parents in these programs: 1) pregnancy to age 3 (p-3) home visiting parent education program, 2) daily montessori classes for children ages 1 to 5 (b4six classroom program), and 3) daily montessori classes for children ages 6 to 9 (elementary classroom program). In spite of growing up in neighborhoods that struggle with poverty, illiteracy, and high dropout rates, lumin's third grade alumni have a high school graduation rate of 96% with 89% of those graduates attending college.
