Programs: The little theatre of norfolk,a completely volunteer community theater began in 1926, incorporated march 11, 1933, and moved to its current location in 1950. Since its inception, the theater has provided local artists a chance to explore for the first time or expand their craft through acting, directing, design or other aspects of technical work. During wwii extra performances were held for the families and military in the area. Many of those performances were uso style. Currently, the little theatre of norfolk is one of the oldest continuously running community theatres in the nation. Five productions are presented each year, including two musicals, with 12 performances each. In fy16, served over 7688 patrons with the help of 210 volunteers. Little theatre of norfolk has become a partner in education with visual and performing arts academy salem high school. With this program the theater has hosted technical theatre classes which included instruction in painting technique. These programs took place during school hours. Programs are offered by request. Teachers and school personnel partner with ltn board members of the little theater to design and implement a program that coincides the student's standards of learning. In fy16, the little theatre of norfolk added several workshops throughtout the year geared to aspiring students. Little theatre of norfolk offers a $1000 scholarship to a deserving hampton roads student pursuing to a higher education in theater or theater education. We partner with special groups who either request additional performances of a production or purchase a block of tickets that allow their organizations to do fundraising for special causes. Some of these organizations are soroptomist, panhellenic society, biznet and the fbi citizens academy. Our mission, to foster and improve the cultural environment of the city of norfolk and surrounding areas through presentations of live on-stage theatrical productions. We provide high quality art, affordable and accessible to the community, and in making available training and inspiration for all interested in the theatre and its associated work.
