Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal-Related, Animals, Dogs

Mission: The mission of Lap Dog Rescue of New Mexico is to rescue, rehabilitate and place for adoption small companion dogs. Our goal is to place these dogs in loving, forever homes and to do this through a rigorous screening and adoption process. We operate strictly through volunteerism, counting on the generosity of others and of ourselves to further our mission.

Results: As a network of caring foster homes where our dogs are temporarily homed and socialized, and not kenneled, we screen applicants so that our dogs will be accepted by the adopting family. We collaborate with other state-wide rescues to save New Mexico dogs that come from many sources: animal shelters, owner surrenders, and actual abusive situations. In 2016 we rescued over 500 dogs . Since 2001, we have saved thousands of New Mexico shelter dogs.

Target demographics: save New Mexico Shelter Dogs

Direct beneficiaries per year: more than 500 rescued dogs - by successfully adopting them into loving forever homes.

Geographic areas served: Albuqerque, New Mexico

Programs: rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of small companion dogs.

I adopted a wonderful little doggie from LDRNM in May of this year. I had just lost my 16-year-old terrier mix in February and was tentative about adopting another dog. Cyrus (a Chi-Basenji mix) was perfect. LDRNM had all the shots, neutering, etc. ready to go. I heard Cyrus was two days away from being euthanized in a shelter in Clovis, NM. I am so glad he's living the high life in Santa Fe now!

I adopted two wonderful dogs in April 2017. They are a joy! It was great earning their trust and having them part of our family. They get along with the other dogs and just seem to be so happy to be with all of us. Thank you, Lap Dog Rescue for the awesome job you do caring for and finding homes for these animals. If anyone doesn't know, you can allocate your United Way contribution to Lap Dog Rescue. I did and my company matched my donation!

We adopted two dogs from Lap Dog Rescue about 1.5 years ago. They do a fantastic job of saving these little bundles of love. Our Button is a ray of sunshine, and Jimmy is a little worrier, making sure everyone is good. Both dogs take thier job of "lap dog" very seriously, and if there happens to be an empty lap, it is immediately taken care of with a determined dog. The fact that the dogs are fostered until they are ready to be adopted, and the potential forever homes are screened, adds to the successful placement of these wonderful dogs. We can't say enough about the job these wonderful people do.

We were fortunate to adopt 3 of our dogs from Lap Dog Rescue of NM. They do a wonderful job of matching the dogs with the right family. The dogs were all healthy, happy and well taken care of before they joined our family and they adjusted into the family nicely.

We are so lucky to have Lap Dog Rescue of NM as an organization rescuing these wonderful animals. I highly suggest adopting and donating to them.

I have adopted several dogs from different non-profits, and my experience with Lap Dog Rescue of New Mexico was the best by far. They were quick to respond, accommodating to my scheduling needs, and connected me to my new best friend. Tripp (now Charlie Bear) was clearly loved and cared for very well at his foster's home (Thank you, Jan K.). I will definitely return to Lap Dog Rescue of New Mexico the next time I am looking to adopt a rescue dog. Thank you for the amazing job you do, LDRNM!

We were able to adopt Ziggy, a lively, comical smart little dickens, a poodle-bichon mix. He has brought so much joy to our home and lives. The process was easy and ensures a great match on both sides. Highly recommend!

Over the years, we have adopted two lovely fur-babies from lapdog Rescue. The first was Sheba, a 6-year old Pomeranian/Min-Pin mix. Although she only weighed ~14#, she loved to hike, backpack, and camp with us. She was my constant shadow, and a faithful companion to our other dog, Scruffy. After Sheba passed at age 14, we again turned to Lapdog Rescue, and Brian brought us Izzy, a 3-year old miniature schnauzer mix. Izzy is our house diva; she sleeps with us, loves to hike, and wants to go everywhere with me! She is also a good friend to our other two fur-babies, Penny and Skippy. Lapdog Rescue is wonderful, and I always recommend them to any friends who are looking for a new furry family member!!!

Hello!
My name is Laura and I am the happy mama to two NM Lap Dog rescue babies. They are not my pets; they are my family.

September 29th 2017 I lost my family member of 14 years. My dearest Chihuahua companion, Ceraquahui, was/is irreplaceable. I was not sure I was ready to explore a new baby.

I went to a NM Lap Dog fair at Osuna Nursery October 2017 and met Charlotte. She joined me at home and we became inseparable. I soon realized how much I needed her companionship. Within 2 months we met Tiller and he come into our home as our little brother.

These creatures are polar opposites with Tiller being a real guy's guy and Char being the penultimate lady. But they scrap and love one another, as I do them. I never thought I could be more than a one dog woman, but they have shown me the way.

Forever Grateful for NM Lap Dog, Charlotte and Tiller and each day we share.

I was looking for a dog for a coworker to adopt. As I was browsing I saw Zeta. I instantly fell in love. I adopted her and she has filled my home and heart with love. She is the smallest of all three of my dogs but she rules. Spoiled rotten but I would not have it any other way. Thank you for bringing Zeta into my life... Love, love, love her... ❤ ❤ ❤

I worked with you on a fundraiser few years back with Avon for Animals online. I am looking forward to doing it again this year at a %20 going to your organization . The work you do makes a difference no matter what breed or size You have such a loyal group that tend to these dogs without pay and only on your own funds. Looking to contribute again this year. Thank You

Lap Dog Rescue helped us find a replacement for our Saint Bernard. Sherman was adopted. We had him for six years when he suddenly went into a health nose dive. We work with our Vets to see if there was anyway to save him. There wasn’t. We realized that our age would not permit another Gentle Giant. We learned about Lap Dog Rescue. We found a mix of Toy Poodle and West Highland Terrier. He won our hearts immediately. He met our one criteria he had to like small kids. He passed with flying colors. We realized he needed a buddy. Lap Dog Rescue came through with a wonderful companion. They are completely bonded. They bring give us love, laughter, and close companionship. We appreciate the fact that Lap Dog Rescue Vets prospective owners. They also do a complete inspection of your home and yard. They also wanted to ensure that the dogs would be able to be around our very young grandchildren. We recommend Lap Dog Rescue to family and friends. Albuquerque is especially Blessed to have them not only for placing rescues but for going in and rescuing them to begin with!

We've adopted 3 dogs from Lap Dog Rescue of New Mexico. It's a trustworthy, outstanding non profit. The rescued dogs are fostered in homes by volunteers, all shots are up to date, all neutering and spading is done before a family receives the dog. LDRNM is a gift to dogs and the family that adopts them. Give a rescued dog some love and they will return love back to you forever. LDRNM is #1 in my heart.

Best ever rescue. I have adopted 5 dogs from Lap Dog, and refer Lap Dog when someone asks where to get a dog. Very compassionate, and love what they are doing for those that do not have a voice.

I adopted my little Miniature poodle mix from Lap Dog in July 2014. Brian came to the house with Nero to make sure he would have a good and secure home, and Nero has been my almost constant companion since then. We walk twice a day, sleep in the same bed, and share a bond that is heart warming to me. Since I adopted Nero I have donated to Lap Dog Rescue on a regular basis as I know they are a strictly foster organization and need every extra dollar that comes their way. I have such compassion for those who foster the little rescue dogs and am very grateful they rescued Nero and passed him along to me.

Over the past 15 years or so we’ve adopted five rescued dachshunds from Lap Dog Rescue who all became integral members of our family. Each one of these precious little dogs have unique personalities and are simply fountains of love. The real advantage of adopting rescue dogs from LDR is that the foster folks who house them while they await their forever home, socialize them, get to know each dogs quirks, needs and personality, and can help you choose just the right dog for your home. Our LDR rescue posse are a never ending stream of love and endearing entertainment. The first picture is of our remaining four dachshund posse; second picture is of the first two LDR rescues (blue collared one has passed on); and the last picture is of our first two dachshunds, both deceased (not LDR rescues). So, we highly recommend LDR as the source for your next four legged fur baby.

What a wonderful, compassionate, and organized nonprofit. We adopted our beloved dog a year ago and we worked with our pup's foster parents and they were always available and provided support and important information. Lap Dog also provided financial support for neutering through a great Veterinarian clinic nearby. Our experience with Lap Dog was fabulous!
