Mission: Jewish women's theatre (jwt) was formed to create, produce and preserve diverse contemporary jewish stories that empower and educate individuals, inspire community and build cultural legacy. Combining the lost heritage of jewish salon culture and the proud tradition of storytelling, jwt presents a unique theatrical experience resulting in an alternative way to interact with judaism, which allows both audience and artist to explore, understand and engage in jewish life in a culturally relevant and meaningful way.
Programs: Jwt's signature program is "at-homes salons" where community members volunteer to open their home to 65-100 audience members for a performance consisting of original short monologues, short plays, comedy, songs, dance, poetry and music centered on a chosen theme. Jwt also regularly performs and reprises salons for community based organizations in los angeles and beyond. Our collection of over 35 original shows allow artists and audiences alike to deeply reflect on our collective humanity, providing many a new and culturally revlevant way to reshape perceptions of jews for themselves and others.
jwt produces shows and events at the braid, its performance and art space. These include non-denominational shabbat services, classes, art exhibits and related talks, lectures and other activities. The organization launched and supports an arts council fellowship program for millennial art leaders to develop salon shows showcasing emerging next generation voices and talent.
