Mission: The jewish federation of greater philadelphia mobilizes financial and volunteer resources to address the communities' most critical priorities locally, in israel and around the world.
Programs: The jewish federation is committed to funding services that meet the most basic needs of vulnerable community members of all ages, in greater philadelphia, in israel and around the world. This includes delivering nutritional support, providing grants for critical needs, enabling people with disabilities to reach their full potential and facilitating a wide array of services helping older adults to age safely, nourish their souls and live with dignity in their own homes. Thanks to the community's support: - 2,828 local older adults were supported with socialization programs to connect them with their peers and engage them in mentally, physically and emotionally rewarding activities such as sharing in nutritious meals, discussion groups, book clubs, and jewish holiday celebrations - 1,079 vulnerable jews were provided with emergency grants to help them through difficult financial times due to unexpected life events - 889 home modifications and repairs were provided to older adults who could not physically and/or financially make the repairs necessary to continue living in their homes safely. This included everything from changing light bulbs and fixing broken windows to installing grab-bars in showers and making plumbing repairs - 17,606 local low-income individuals received food assistance - 1,764 at-risk children in israel received tutoring and mentoring - 894 homebound older adults and people with disabilities were provided transportation - 1,185 holocaust survivors in israel were provided basic necessities - 3,233 people in the ukrainian conflict zone received medications and medical services - 48,000 pounds of food was collected by 41 synagogues and agencies during the high holiday food collection in addition, amounts are included that were distributed via donor-designated campaign support. These amounts were directly distributed to programs in addition to those amounts distributed through the annual grant process. This enables community members of all ages to engage in the rich tapestry of jewish life, while securing the future of our jewish world. Thanks to the community's support: - 6,324 jewish young adults in the greater philadelphia area participated in programming that strengthened their jewish identity - 5,753 children were delivered jewish themed books and music - 2,276 scholarships were awarded for jewish learning and camping - 1,787 philadelphians participated in transformative israel experiences - 1,052 teens participated in jewish-themed extracurricular social and educational programs - 711 jewish educators were provided with professional development - approximately 8,000 jewish children attended summer camps in the former soviet union - 3,530 requests were fielded by the jewish federation's jewish information and referral service, providing critical information to individuals and families with questions about accessing the broad array of resources within greater philadelphia's jewish communities - 2,600 people in greater philadelphia were involved in holocaust education programming - philadelphians traveled 1,377,600 miles to connect with global jewish communities the jewish federation truly believes we are stronger together, which is why we are continuously connecting individuals and organizations, in various communities, with one another to repair our world. We strive to show every community member - no matter their interests, affiliation, neighborhood or orientation - we are here to help them engage more deeply in jewish life in whatever way is most comfortable for them. Also included are distributions from endowment funds that support agencies and/or programs which further the mission of jewish federation and are in addition to the annual grant process.
