Mission: To inspire teaching and learning for humanity in the schools and communities of this region through study of the holocaust. Teaching students of all ages to be engaged citizens.
Programs: General education programs serving 40,000 students, teachers and community groups each year. The center provides the following resources: educational resources, curricula, community programs, artifacts, teacher training, holocaust teaching trunks, classroom sets of books, speakers bureau, online resources, travelling exhibits, library and consultation for educators.
teacher training seminars and workshops reaching 375 educators each year. Seminars address the challenge of adequate teacher preparation for this most difficult and critical subject matter. The center coordinates with other organizations to bring experts on the issues that affect the schools in our communities - such as hate crimes and violence, genocide and bullying, and the use of primary sources. Master teachers present best practices to their colleagues.
traveling trunk program reaching 8,500 students each year. Nineteen education trunks are sent at no charge to teachers across washington state and contain books for various reading levels, classroom activities, maps, posters, dvds and curriculum guides for teachers.
