Mission: The agency provides services within a 12 county gulf coast area for persons with disabilities, undereducated and unskilled workers, families in poverty and others with barriers to social, educational or employment success. "together, we empower people through encouragement, education and employment", represents our commitment to helping people acquire the tools and skills needed for a pathway to self-sufficiency and improved quality of life.
Programs: Children and family support services: spent over $40,000 on purchases of mobility devices, travel assistance to medical appointments, diabetic supplies, ramps and hundreds of other items and services to help persons with disabilities and other health care needs be more independent and improve their quality of life. Provided intensive early education and support services to 627 young children through inclusive childcare centers, part c early intervention services, special educatin preschool services, and early head start. Additionally, nearly 900 parents and caregivers of children with disabilities were provided training, respite and opportunities for community enrichment. Prepared free of charge 1,100 federal/state income tax returns for households with low to moderate income, maximizing eleigible tax credits and refunds. Provided nearly $60,000 in vouchers for families in crisis to purchase clothing and household goods. Coordinated in-home caregiver support and respite for 108 active military and veteran families with a family member with a disability. Loaned out/gave away nearly 2,000 pieces of durable medical equipment at no cost to the recipient. Provided safe, affordable, high-quality year round day program to over 40 adults with moderate disabilities.
educational services:provided ged instruction to nearly 1,000 adults (including 230 incarcerated students) and administered the ged exam to 280 individuals. Trained, monitored, and supported 140 volunteers who provided 16,500 instructional hours helping adult students improve their reading and academic skills.
employment services and retail program:provided job assistance services to nearly 2,000 people and successfully placed 560 in employment including persons dealing with a disability, low education, lack of job skills, or other barriers to finding and keeping a job. Provided paid work training to 250 people within these target groups.
