Mission: Goodwill industries of the greater east bay, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1919, provides disadvantaged and disabled people work experience, life skills and skill training to achieve self-sufficiency in their lives through work. We do this by focusing our business enterprises on providing training opportunities and by operating financially sound community based businesses that provide vital vocational services to our community. Our vision is that with goodwill's leadership in providing paths to self-sufficiency through work, we will help disadvantaged and disabled people overcome adversity, making the communities we serve stronger.
Programs: Goodwill provides hands-on, paid job training to those facing barriers to employment, such as multi-generational poverty, history of incarceration, limited education or english language skills, no work experience, and disabilities. While participants receive real-life job training, they also participate in case management support services and attend classes in employment readiness, computer literacy, and job search skills. Nearly forty-three percent of all jobs performed within the social enterprise businesses operated by goodwill industries of the greater east bay are performed by those who are not employable in the labor market and are learning how to work in order to become competitively employed. During 2014, goodwill helped 4,076 individuals and families living in the east bay counties of alameda, contra costa and solano counties receive the training and skills they needed to succeed in today's competitive job market.
