Mission: Building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place
Programs: Girl scouts is the premier leadership development organization for girls. We believe in the power of girls and as part of the largest girl-led organization in the world, girls discover their inner strengths, passions, and talents, while developing core life skills that empower them to be bold, courageous leaders. With girl scouts, girls get the chance to do big things while discovering their sense of self, connecting with others in an increasingly diverse world, and taking action to make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond. Girl scouts north carolina coastal pines ("gsnccp") is one of 112 girl scout councils and serves girls in 41 counties across central and eastern north carolina. Reflecting the rich diversity of the communities it serves, 41% of the girl members of gsnccp identified themselves as racially or ethnically diverse. In 2016-2017, gsnccp served a total of 26,068 girls. Programs are a cornerstone of the girl scout leadership experience. From building robots, to learning the importance of personal finance or camping out under the stars, girl members experience a wide range of extraordinary opportunities. Gsnccp has five main program initiatives: the outdoors, healthy living, stem, citizenship and stewardship, and leadership. Through program opportunities, girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together. In 2016-2017, all 41 counties in our jurisdiction were represented at more than 214 council-sponsored events which were attended by 5,023 girls. Gsnccp has a long history of inclusion and has been committed to making the organization accessible to all girls. By removing barriers to participation through community outreach, our organization reaches at risk girls, ages five through seventeen. Programs are designed to teach girls life skills that will positively impact their future. In 2016-2017, gsnccp provided outreach programs to 8,910 girls from under-resourced families. The girl scout gold award stands for excellence and leadership and is the highest and most prestigious achievement in girl scouting. When a girl scout embarks on her award journey, she commits to take action and create a lasting change in her community. She demonstrates significant leadership, planning, networking and organizational skills in completing her project. In 2016-2017, gsnccp awarded 60 girls with the gold award.
