Mission: The foundation for rural service, in cooperation with the national telecommunications cooperative association, seeks to sustain and enhance the quality of life throughout rural america by advancing an understanding of rural telecommunications issues.
Programs: The foundation sponsors an annual tour of washington, d. C. Approximately one hundred high school students from rural america visit the nation's capitol to learn about the telecommunications industry and the legislative process.
awareness campaign - the foundation sponsors an ongoing awareness campaign to promote the contribution that small, independent telephone companies make to rural communities. The program includes the production of informational mailers geared toward educating rural telecommunications customers, an image and awareness campaign that aims to educate state and local decision makers on the value that community based telecom providers bring to the telecom and economic futures of their communities and a series of educational papers aimed at educating decision-makers.
scholarships - recognizing the disparities between rural and urban access to higher education, the foundation offers an annual college scholarship program to help further higher education among rural youth. Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 are awarded to thirty winners selected by an independent team of reviewers in the education field.
