Mission: The mission of the sarasota orchestra is to engage, educate and enrich our community through high quality live musical experiences. Sarasota orchestra is committed to engaging our community with the highest standards in performing and programming, operating in a culture of service, respect and collaboration, and performing classical music and welcoming great music from other genres.
Programs: Sarasota orchestra concert season - this includes symphony concerts, pops concerts, and chamber ensemble performances. Our programming specifically aims to attract new audiences, foster cultural tourism and strengthen the arts of the sarasota and manatee communities by presenting a selection of traditional classics, light classics, pops programming and chamber music. The chamber ensembles includes the sarasota string quartet, sarasota wind quintet, sarasota brass quintet and sarasota piano quartet. The sarasota orchestra presents over 100 concerts annually, which include a series of (multiple) performances that feature renowned guest artists performing with the orchestra.
sarasota music festival - the sarasota music festival is one of the premier teaching festivals focused on chamber music in the united states. Through a competitive process, the festival admits 60 of the most talented college-aged, pre-professional musicians to participate in three weeks of master classes and coaching sessions, along with public orchestral and chamber performances. The internationally acclaimed faculty artists teach and perform. In 2017 there were 12 ticketed concerts, one lecture and public access to master classes and open rehearsals.
for almost 60 years, the sarasota orchestra has sponsored a youth orchestra program currently consisting of seven orchestras, from beginning strings to a full advanced orchestra (youth philharmonic. ) the youth orchestras meet once a week from september through april and present six concerts that are free to the public. The sarasota orchestra also presents a summer music camp for three weeks each july. The camp meets every day (monday-friday) and concludes with a recital for parents and the public to attend. To insure all students have access to music instruction and our programs, the sarasota orchestra provides tuition, private lesson, summer camp and college scholarships. Needy students also have the opportunity to borrow instruments from the orchestra. Other programs include the young person's concert which engages fourth and fifth graders from sarasota and manatee schools. This includes an in-school preparation curriculum guide and culminates in a concert held at a professional concert venue by the professional sarasota orchestra. The curriculum for these concerts is in alignment with the florida and national education standards. Other outreach programs include orchestra musicians performing and coaching in the schools and other community venues. The total number of children and family members served by the sarasota orchestra educational programming is more than 15,000.
