Mission: Edloc is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to elevating the leadership, voices and influence of people of color in education and to leading more inclusive efforts to improve education. Edloc's mission is to break through the polarizing divides that have consumed efforts to improve public education.
Programs: Boulder fund:the boulder fund grants support entrepreneurial ventures of innovative and diverse leaders working to advance its third way values and policy priorities and is integral to edloc's strategy of advancing leaders of color aligned to our values as a transformative force in the lives of children and families of color. In 2017, through a competitive grant application process, edloc made $800,000 in grants (each between $100,000-$150,000) to edloc members who are spearheading or expanding innovations aligned with edloc's values and policy platform. The 2017 recipients serve low-income black and latino children from birth through college.
network convenings:edloc hosts a series of convenings to help identify, cultivate and build the capacity of our members. Our policy convenings, which in our inaugural year brought together our 40-person policy council from across the country, have helped edloc develop its policy platform which focuses on k-12 issues affecting black and latinx communities as well as issues beyond education that affect student school success. Both the policy and national convenings have provided opportunities to build our members knowledge and expertise around the policy platform and other topics. Importantly, the national convening has served to grow and connect the membership, develop our third way values, and align on our goals and priorities. We have also begun to engage deeply in our policy platform and strategize around how to advance policies critical to protecting and supporting our students, families, and communities. Our convenings, with over 200 participants in 2017, have also filled a gap in the field to provide support and network values-aligned, diverse leaders in education and related fields.
network growth & development:to grow and strengthen edloc's network, we identify, cultivate, and support talented, values-aligned diverse leaders through national conferences and local networks. We have built edloc's network and identified many of the most talented black and latino leaders in the field. We'll strategically grow our membership, comprised of over 240 members by the end of 2017 and growing, and continue to leverage our regional networks (including los angeles, memphis, new orleans, new york, and washington, dc) as a key strategy for identifying local talent within communities and advancing local policy priorities.
other programs, including strategy, school redesign, advisory services, executive & staff search, and other programs:edloc works to advance our third way values by influencing education initiatives and priorities and aligning them to our values. We've developed school redesign principles to ensure the next generation of schools are led by more diverse leaders, that these schools value the potential contributions of the families/communities, and that they create much more equitable and expansive educational experiences for black and latinx students. With our values and principles as our guides, we provide advisory services to organizations seeking to advance diversity and equity and assist thier recruitment and staffing efforts, particularly those for executive-level roles.
