Causes: Art Museums, Arts & Culture
Mission: To educate the public and promote artistic and charitable activities by providing and operating a museum commemorating the life and artwork of dr. James w. Washington, jr, a nationally acclaimed artist.
Programs: Artist in residence program. In 2011, four individuals participated in the program, spending one month on site. Some of the artists lived in the house while working in the studio. The balance of the participants simply took advantage of the outstanding studio facilities and the suppy budget the program provided.
studio shows: at the conclusion of each artist in residence program, a show is held exhibiting and selling the works of art produced during the residency.
a bird in hand exhibit. Works by local sculptor seth friedman in the spirit of james washington were displayed and sold to benefit the foundation. The exhibit included works by washington, selections from his diary and partially carved stones recently unearthed from his garden that demonstrated the artist's creative process.
