DMAX Foundation has truly been life changing for me, and I'm sure many others. DMAX Clubs invite students to get involved in campus life and the community, and gives students of all backgrounds a safe inclusive environment to talk about whatever is on their minds. I think this is essential for all college students, to have a social and emotional outlet to break free from the pressure society bears upon us. Personally, DMAX Foundation has given me more opportunities in my mental health advocacy, and these events I have had the privilege to attend are so inspiring, and eye opening. DMAX Foundation welcomes all with open arms, and I don't know where I would be without their encouragement and genuine compassion.
As a DMAX Diplomat, I am thrilled to share my experience with DMAX Foundation, an extraordinary non-profit organization devoted to advancing mental health awareness among college students. In my role, I had the opportunity to engage in club recruitment, student outreach, and organizing impactful on-campus events to promote mental health resources and the foundation's vital mission.
Throughout my involvement, DMAX Foundation consistently stood out for its innovative approach to facilitating open and honest conversations about mental health. Their DMAX Clubs are dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where students are encouraged to discuss their mental health challenges freely. Through dynamic events and strategic outreach efforts, they not only elevate awareness but also equip students with essential tools and resources to manage their mental health effectively.
What truly sets DMAX Foundation apart is its unwavering commitment to dismantling the stigma surrounding mental health. Their work empowers students to seek help, share their stories, and offer mutual support in profoundly impactful ways. As someone who has proudly represented their mission, I can personally attest to the positive and transformative impact they have on campus communities.
I wholeheartedly recommend DMAX Foundation to anyone eager to support or engage with an organization that is making a significant difference in the mental health space. Their dedication to enhancing the well-being of college students is both admirable and deserving of the highest accolades.
I've attended the virtual "DMAX Students Speak!" event and the in-person "Speak: A Storytelling Event" at Yards Brewery in Philadelphia. Both events were very organized and well put together. It was clear a lot of time and effort went into them. The stories from the speakers were also great. At the virtual event, it was really insightful learning how students dealt with gender identity and mental health in an collegiate setting. At the storytelling event, it was amazing hearing stories that emphasized perspectives and ideas I had not previously considered.
DMAX is doing an amazing job bringing students and young adults together to discuss mental health issues and how different challenges arise from different settings. The broad range of perspectives really lends to the intersectionality of mental health and the plethora of other issues and concerns students and young people have.
I hope they keep up the great work and continue to provide help and resources to students.
DMAX Foundation is an amazing cause and place to intern at. The staff is truly so kind and passionate about the work they do. It's great to work at a place where everyone is willing to help out one another.
I was involved with DMAX for 4 years, and am still amazed by the incredible work they do, and how they were able to help my campus. I went to Penn State, and was involved with DMAX's chapter there. Being a club exec for the majority of the time I was there, I got to see how having a space like DMAX helped people of all kinds -- strangers and friends alike. Having a space where people can talk, learn, and support others is becoming a rarity, and having a place like DMAX really meant a lot to loads of people.
I spent 2 semesters interning with DMAX Foundation, so I got a firsthand look at the impact that DMAX Foundation has with its Clubs and events.
One thing that stood out to me working with DMAX Foundation was the immediate response to current events that may affect students' mental health. Following an adverse event that occurred at a school that had a DMAX Club, DMAX staff reached out within a day to the Club leaders to provide support and developed a collection of talk tips to help students process the event in a healthy, peer supported way.
Additionally, DMAX Foundation makes an effort to develop events and materials in an intentionally inclusive way, prioritizing marginalized voices, such as LGBTQ+ and BIPOC voices, and encouraging conversations to examine privilege and preformed opinions.
Last fall, I had the privilege of interning with the DMAX Foundation, and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. The work DMAX does is not just impactful—it's essential, especially when it comes to supporting the mental health of college students. In an environment where mental health often takes a backseat, DMAX’s dedication to this cause is crucial. Every week, I would leave our team meetings feeling uplifted and motivated, thanks to the organization's unwavering commitment to making a difference. As a college student myself, I deeply appreciate how vital it is to have nonprofits like DMAX Foundation working tirelessly to ensure students receive the mental health support they need.
I was invited to a DMAX Students Speak event featuring several wonderful speakers who shared their experiences as trans students discovering and exploring their gender identity while navigating their school life. Hearing the stories of their journey and having the foundation be able to highlight how they have thrived and found a shared community in their experiences was so important to hear as someone going through a similar journey. I'm incredibly thankful that DMAX is here to allow such stories to be shared.
Absolutely a 5/5 organization!
I had the pleasure of attending an event by this organization recently, and hearing the stories of the people involved was very moving. Mental health outreach is vital work and the presence of DMAX Clubs on campuses provides an important avenue for young people in such a transitional life stage. It has clearly made a difference to a lot of people.
I spent a couple years working with DMAX as a Temple University chapter member, Vice President, and President and it was a great experience. The club itself has so much to offer and is a great platform for students to have to engage in mental health talks, guidance/mentorship, receive mental health resources, etc. The national leadership is the glue to this great organization, as they foster an environment which is encouraging, empowering, and welcoming to all!
I have attended a couple DMAX Students Speak virtual events. Both covered sensitive topics and I thought both the speakers and the material handled that very well. DMAX is doing good work and I look forward to more events.
DMAX Foundation is such a unique, special space. Not only is the mission incredibly moving and worth working for, but the people behind this nonprofit are kind, patient, understanding, and incredibly motivating. I have a lot of faith in DMAX Foundation making a difference in many lives.
DMAX Foundation offers all students a safe and encouraging space on college campuses to gather together and engage in conversations that connect.
DMAX Foundation offers an innovative "friends helping friends" model to empower college students to take better care of their mental health, not just in college, but for life.
I have been an intern with DMAX Foundation since May and have had the best experience so far. DMAX Foundation’s mail goal is to help college students by providing a space for them to talk about how they’re doing. Everyone at DMAX puts a lot of work into making this happen and are truly focused on making a difference, even if that means adding just one more club at a college. It is a great and personal experience where you get to work directly with the students at the college and your work is always appreciated. This is an experience like no other due to the uniqueness of the Foundation and it is truly one of the best!
DMAX Foundation was started by parents whose son committed suicide right before going to college, to provide colleges with DMAX Club which helps college students with mental health and emotional well being and to help prevent suicide. I joined the Board of Directors when I learned about DMAX because my husband had committed suicide when our children were young and only in elementary school and I did help them to have good mental health when they went to college. The DMAX Clubs are excellent and DMAX is also now helping stress with respect to ethnicity or other things people go through. So we do help with fundraising in order to continue to start DMAX Clubs at more colleges.
I was first introduced to the DMAX foundation through my employer, Jacobs. I am an engineer by profession, but I am also a Positive Mental Health Champion Trainer at Jacobs. We strive to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and promote positive conversations around mental health and wellbeing. After attending the DMAX Students Speak event, I was so moved I knew I wanted to be a part of this organization. The need for DMAX Clubs on college campuses is greater than ever after the last year. Creating a safe environment where students can share what they are feeling and going through, with peers, is an important step in removing feelings of isolation. We are not alone in our struggles. It is the stories we share, that bind us and move us forward to strengthen for mental health of all of us. I and grateful and proud to be a board member of this incredible organization.
I have been working with DMAX for over a year now! DMAX is an incredibly necessary organization for college students and young adults. In this current time, college students and young adults are really struggling with increased depression and anxiety. Peer relations are vital to social development and self-esteem during early young adulthood. DMAX is an organization which promotes mental health education and peer support to this age group and saves lives.
Thank you for all that you do!
DMAX addresses the foremost issue in our post-pandemic world: the mental health of our youth. In a time when deaths of despair outpace deaths from Covid among adolescents, DMAX is filling the gap with an innovative program of peer support on college campuses. This model is scalable across and beyond colleges, and I'm excited to support DMAX as it takes flight.
I was a member of the DMAX Club at my university from 2016 to 2019 and I have very fond memories of our meetings, conversations, and my fellow members. DMAX Clubs empower students to speak up about their mental health and give them a safe space to do so; I especially appreciated that our club also empowered students to speak up when they saw a peer struggling, too. We all go through rough patches with our mental health but none of us need to go through difficult times alone, which is exactly what DMAX Foundation taught me and continues to teach students on college campuses today.
The DMAX club on my campus helps to bring myself and my peers closer together through conversations about mental health. Mental health talks are more crucial than ever with the COVID-19 pandemic and the club really brings a sense of community since we are vulnerable with one another. It has positively impacted all students on campus.
Currently serving as an intern for DMAX, I have greatly enjoyed my experience thus far. The leadership team for DMAX listens and supports me in my initiatives and is passionate about the foundation's mission. Very excited to continue my work here and continue uplifting "Conversations That Matter" in my community!
It is incredible how DMAX is trying so hard to break various stigmas towards mental illness and hoping for our generation to be more active and caring to those who are in need. Working as an intern for DMAX Foundation has been the best decision I made! I am thankful to be part of their mission which is something that can change and save many lives. I am learning so much for being part of this organization and so thankful for all the experiences I am having so far!
DMAX Foundation is helping so many young adults on college campuses with establishing DMAX Clubs. The stigma of mental health with college students is no longer a barrier and DMAX is filling the void that college students say exists. Offering a club environment where students can share in a safe space and have conversations with others that will be life changing!
DMAX is an amazing organization that creates clubs across college campuses. The organization allows college students to have import conversations that matter to their mental health. The people who work for the foundation are amazing and super supportive.
DMAX Foundation is an amazing non-profit organization. With its mission to help young people who struggle with Mental Health issues, the organization is at the forefront of assisting students who will soon enter the workforce.
Why is this important? In our nation which places so much focus on “being the best,” “doing the best,” “being better than the next person,” the overall push to be the best can and does often cause students to have fear of the future. DMAX Clubs help students help each other deal with these on and sometimes off-campus stressors.
DMAX Foundation has changed my life! I've been volunteering here since August and it's been a wonderful experience. Through this work, I've become more appreciative for everyday I have on this earth and am more grateful for the small wins. I struggled with my mental health and sobriety and it feels good to be on the other side helping people. I am going to start a club at Rutgers University New Brunswick this spring and am hoping to help out a lot of people there.
I interned with DMAX this past summer and have been a member of Temple University’s DMAX Club for about a year. DMAX is doing meaningful work that is changing the lives of college students and young adults. The mental health resources on college campuses are just not enough to support the tons of students suffering with mental health related issues. DMAX is a place for students to talk about how they’re doing and for peers to help peers.
DMAX Foundation is a wonderful nonprofit! I was truly blessed when I received the opportunity to work with them this past summer, and I can say that the work they are doing for mental health advocacy is extraordinary. Undergraduate students across an impressive array of colleges and universities are able to join DMAX Clubs where they can get together and discuss how they are doing in a non-intrusive manner. The organization itself is very structured and all members are extremely friendly and professional.
I am a Board Member if the DMAX Foundation. I was introduced to the principals of the organization a few years ago. After hearing their story about their son Daniel, I was inspired to lend my expertise. My own son has struggled with mental health challenges for years, working hard to understand and overcome the feelings associated with his anxiety and depression. As a parent, the feelings of fear and helplessness can be overwhelming. The work DMAX does at the college level is both necessary and essential. DMAX is a shining light in the often darkness of mental health.
This nonprofit is doing exceptional important work helping to establish places on campuses around the country for young adults to have important conversations. When young adults are struggling with many stressors often manifesting with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and other mental illnesses, they need a safe constructive place to have conversations to help them. This nonprofit is doing this! They have warm, loving, kind people doing exceptional work!
The stigma against mental illness has to end, or people will not seek treatment, which can lead to dropping out of school, job loss, homelessness, and especially suicide. DMAX provides a safe space in school settings for youth facing depression and mental health problems to talk to others, to not become isolated because of the unbearable stigma. DMAX is what we need on all campuses everywhere so people literally can live. DMAX saves lives.
My experience with DMAX has been educational, informative, and all around pleasant. I first heard of their organization through a friend in college and we attended one of their interactive information sessions. I became interested and signed up to receive their newsletter. I feel very strongly about this organization because of their message in supporting conversations surrounding mental health. I was able to raise some money for DMAX through an event I held at school and DMAX sent a representative to table at the event which I really appreciated as I value their mission. I hope to see even more DMAX clubs continue to pop up on college campuses everywhere! Creating safe spaces for people to talk about and address mental health is extremely important and DMAX Foundation is doing a great job to promote that.
This is an incredibly valuable nonprofit serving not only a vital issue in our society but also breaking down barriers for discussion.
The DMAX Foundation is an intrinsic team that is passionate about creating a change relating to mental health and well-being. They instill clubs at college campuses, attend local events, and partner with companies with the agenda of improving mental health resources. This nonprofit seeks to address the mental health crisis on college campuses and in the workplace.
DMAX is a grassroots organization led by Lee Maxwell and Laurie Burstein-Maxwell, with a ton of help from their teammate Kris. Together, the three work tirelessly to change the culture on college campuses!
I have volunteered for DMAX Foundation at several events, and I love supporting it and its mission. Mental health is hugely important, and this foundation approaches it with such heart that it is impossible not to be moved every time I work with its team.
I had the pleasure of interning for DMAX Foundation last summer. I can genuinely say that DMAX Foundation is an organization that I admire and believe in. The staff works tirelessly to create spaces for students to feel less alone. They have shed an unbelievable amount of light on mental health awareness and they break down the stigma surrounding mental health conversation. The passion that drives this foundation is so apparent and they make everyone feel like family! Because of DMAX Foundation, I was given the opportunity to speak about my own mental health, something I have never felt comfortable doing in the past. If you do not know about DMAX Foundation, you are really missing out!
I have known about DMAX Foundation since its onset. It was started by Laurie and Lee Maxwell after they lost their 18 year old son to suicide. The work that the Foundation is doing is so important in response to the mental health crisis on college campuses. DMAX is making a real difference in the mental health lives of college students. There are so many more students that need to learn about DMAX Clubs and how they create a trusting environments for students to talk about their own mental health and help each other.
I can't say enough good about this wonderful organization. I look forward to supporting them for many many years Amy
I have helped out with DMAX Operations the past three months and have had nothing short of an incredible experience. From events in Arlington, VA and Philadelphia, PA, the foundation does great work for an amazing cause. The foundation is also beginning to generate some substantial support and committed donors, which is a major positive for the future. Nothing but great things to say.
Javier’s DMAX Review
In my short time as an intern at DMAX Foundation, I have had the opportunity to learn, and work with driven and passionate people. They truly live their mission, and are fighting hard to bring awareness to mental health issues. Working for DMAX has helped me realize that it is possible to work for yourself, and work for others at the same time. As a future professional it is a great experience to have under my belt, and working for people that are trying to make the world a better, and friendlier place is a great honor. DMAX is a place where both business and ethics are closely bound together, with the hope of helping those in need, and lighting the way for people through the darkness.
Interning at DMAX Foundation was a great experience to get involved in my community and raise awareness about mental health. The dedication of the foundation's staff to eliminate the stigma against mental illness and make a difference in the lives of others is inspiring. My internship at DMAX was incredibly rewarding, Laurie and Kris were always open to new ideas on how to best spread the organization's message and establish new DMAX clubs. While interning, I gained valuable outreach skills in communicating with partners and sponsors, preparing me for future non-profit work. I would highly encourage anyone interested to get involved with DMAX Foundation.
Working as an intern for DMAX Foundation is extremely rewarding. The co-founders are diligent and genuine people. The mission of DMAX Foundation is something that could benefit so many people. What they are doing is extremely important with current mental health issues among college students.
I have been working with DMAX Foundation for over a year now. This organization is really making an impact on college students lives. The students who are part of DMAX Clubs really get the benefit of having intimate conversations about mental health with one another. Students have told me that the Clubs help them feel less stressed and overwhelmed, have allowed them to focus on school work, and have a better outlook on their future. The Foundation also puts on fabulous events that are fun, impactful, and educational for the community.
From my experience, the DMAX Foundation has been an incredible help in raising awareness for mental and emotional issues within the youth. They travel to different schools and participate in conversations with students about these things. They host events that cater to students and youth members for their cause. I've seen people become very engaged in this organization and seen how it has started out to a small conversation and turned into a big part of a college campus life style. It continues to strive for an openness in conversation about anything related to mental and emotional issues, and aims to be connected to a myriad of students within their area and outward.
I was talking with a friend and her husband who were involved with DMAX and I was immediately drawn to their mission to help young adults deal with mental health issues. The story behind the creation of DMAX hit a very personal note for me. Since becoming a board member I have been totally impressed with the leadership and dedication shown by the founders and by the board members and volunteers. DMAX is an amazing nonprofit organization to be a part of and I would encourage anyone who is moved by our mission to volunteer to help.
I am a both a great admirer of DMAX and a Board Member. DMAX's mission to eliminate the stigma of mental illness is near and dear to my heart. Today, too many of our young people are struck down by mental illness. The more we can do to have conversations, provide resources and educate, the less those struggling will do so on their own.
DMAX is creating space for "conversations that matter" on college campuses. DMAX founders Lee and Laurie Maxwell are working tirelessly on this mission and to "light the darkness."
I began working with DMAX Foundation in July and am so glad I did! The work that the foundation is doing to raise mental health awareness about and to erase the stigma about mental health awareness is so critical on college campuses today. Too many young adults are harming themselves or committing suicide because they feel they have no where to turn. The DMAX Clubs being founded on college campuses all over the country is one way to help.
I encourage all of you to help by getting involved or by sending a donation! www.dmaxfoundation.org
I stumbled across the DMAX Foundation's website. The first thing I saw on their site was the mission statement.
"Our mission: To eliminate stigma and encourage safe and caring conversations about mental health issues and emotional pain in our youth."
I was immediately moved. I wanted to be a part of this cause. My own story is one of depression, anxiety, and emotional abuse. When a person is stressed, sad, and unsure they isolate. I watched someone that I loved struggle with bi-polar and depression. Afraid to speak up and share his struggle because of what people would think. Instead he suffered in silence. I suffered in silence.
DMAX exists to change that by creating safe and caring environments were friends are helping friends have conversation that matter. The more you share your story the less power stigma has over you and others. Speak up for mental health! It's okay to not be okay. You are not alone.
I came across DMax Foundation recently and wanted to immediately get involved. They have a great mission to help others. Their focus is to establish student run clubs on college campuses for a safe place to talk, share and support one another. College students can always use a place to connect with others honestly and openly. This is a great organization!

We are blessed to have the dedication and hard work that we do from our board members. Their participation is helping to create DMAX Clubs on College Campuses so that students can have Conversations That Matter. We think it will make a difference to the lives of college students and their friends and families.
This group is trying to raise awareness about mental illness. They are forming clubs on college campuses where students can discuss their feelings in an informal atmosphere. By talking to other students with similar issues, it is their hope that this will reduce the number of teen suicides and convince students who experience mental illness that it is OK to suffer from mental illness. By recognizing that mental illness is a topic to be dealt with through medication and talk therapy, youth will feel accepted and realize that they have a positive role to play in society.

Did you know that 20-25% of all families are impacted by mental illness. That is a big number and a cause worth fighting for. We believe that by giving students opportunities to really talk about how they are doing, rather than hiding it from their friends and family, that we will be helping to create a much more tolerant and caring atmosphere where more people can achieve success. After all, we all fall along the mental health continuum at different places and at different times in our lives. Mental health is everyone's concern.
