This group is trying to raise awareness about mental illness. They are forming clubs on college campuses where students can discuss their feelings in an informal atmosphere. By talking to other students with similar issues, it is their hope that this will reduce the number of teen suicides and convince students who experience mental illness that it is OK to suffer from mental illness. By recognizing that mental illness is a topic to be dealt with through medication and talk therapy, youth will feel accepted and realize that they have a positive role to play in society.
Did you know that 20-25% of all families are impacted by mental illness. That is a big number and a cause worth fighting for. We believe that by giving students opportunities to really talk about how they are doing, rather than hiding it from their friends and family, that we will be helping to create a much more tolerant and caring atmosphere where more people can achieve success. After all, we all fall along the mental health continuum at different places and at different times in our lives. Mental health is everyone's concern.
