Mission: The mission of the columbus symphony orchestra is to provide symphonic music and educational programs of the highest quality, to engender passion and excitement in our diverse audiences. This is paired with our educational mission: to educate and entertain people of all ages to foster talent, create future audiences, nurture intellectual development and spark creativity.
Programs: The cso presented two winter concert series in the 16-17 season. A masterworks series of 12 concert events was held at the ohio and southern theatres. A pop series of 6 concert events, including the annual holiday pops, was held at the ohio theatre. Total attendance at these events was over 38,500 patrons.
the cso hosted the annual picnic with the pops and popcorn pops summer concert events during the summer of 2017. These events brought just under 31,000 patrons to the downtown columbus commons. Highlights of the season included the music of prince and elton john, a smash up of beethoven vs. Coldplay; concerts from three dog night and common, along with the ever popular patriotic pops and the osu marching band. The series also included a performance of beethoven's 9th. The cso also added a summer night music series of classical music.
the cso's education programs play a vital role in outreach and diversity efforts. The programs strive to make music relevant and meaningful for the people we serve, bringing music to life by encouraging interaction with music far beyond mere appreciation. Education initiatives include the columbus all city orchestra, cso youth orchestras, master classes, and the young musicians competition. Other education and family-oriented programs include the young people's concerts, young musician's showcase, and the family series concerts for kids. Education programs enriched the lives of more than 16,600 in the 16-17 season.
