Programs: Capa provides services that bolster and enliven our community. We own and/or manage seven theatres in central ohio, we present exceptional performers from around the world, we provide education programs that support the school curriculum, and we provide vital administrative services for other arts organizations. Our theatres and presentations are the most public aspects of our operations. In fy17 our presentations included comedy (patton oswalt), rock (john hiatt), world music (sergio vargas), bluegrass, (bela fleck and chris thile), broadway ("wicked"), children's entertainment (sesame street live), and contemporary dance (anna and the annadroids). A special co-presentation brought the abbey theatre of dublin's production of "the plough and the stars" to our community. Our theatres welcomed more than 540,000 people, and more than 234,000 of them attended one of capa's presentations. Our largest production was the two-day festival latino, which drew an additional 85,000 people downtown for a free, two-day celebration of latino-hispanic art and cultures.
our theatre operations include facilitating rental events, maintaining the theatres, and providing ticketing and administrative services for other non-profit organizations. Rental events brought over 306,000 patrons to the theatres during the fiscal year. Additionally, the theatres hosted hundreds of meetings and rehearsals throughout the year. One of the most innovative segments of our operations is the administrative services that we provide for other organizations. Our administrative partners can choose from a menu of services to suit their particular needs, such as accounting, ticketing, marketing, and development services. We have developed new business models with several of the partners, creating structures that enable the arts groups to remain independent with their own boards, while still taking advantage of management assistance from capa.
our education programs include student matinees, artist workshops and master classes when possible, and tours of the historic theatres. We reach out to underserved schools through free programs, reduced or free tickets, and transportation subsidies. Students also receive study guides and suggestions for follow up activities. Over the entire 2016-17 season, capa gave away more than 450 tickets and provided busing for columbus city schools' students and teachers. More than 4,700 children benefitted from our education programs during the fiscal year; an additional 56,000 children attended events as reported in program service #1.
