Mission: The mission of catholic charities is to provide compassionate human services with respect for the sanctity of all human life.
Programs: Catholic charities' community support services provided individuals and families with the tools necessary to gain a greater level of self-sufficiency. The program ensures that all clients receive a holistic assessment at the initial intake meeting. Clients who are struggling with unemployment, under-employment, disabilities and other crisis situations work directly with a professional case manager to develop a comprehensive service plan to address identified needs, including: financial, educational, housing, employment, and health/mental health. Case management services at catholic charities are mobile - ensuring access to clients throughout the five counties of the diocese of allentown. Services provided by case managers include: housing, emergency shelter, utility assistance, employment search, emergency food, soup kitchens, and referrals to relevant social services and supports within the agency or community. Specialized case management for veterans and older adults are also provided. In fiscal year 2017, catholic charities was awarded a supportive services for veterans renewal grant from the veteran's administration to provide case management services for veterans and their family members. On-going support is provided to ensure the veteran and family members have safe and stable housing, counseling, employment assistance and appropriate referrals to care for the veteran's needs. Community support services also provides emergency food at all office locations to ensure that no child or adult goes hungry. In addition, the agency operates the ecumenical soup kitchen in allentown, pa and the st. Patrick's pottsville area soup kitchen in pottsville, pa. Through a partnership with the street medicine program of lehigh valley health network, a physician's assistant and nursing staff provide monthly medical check-ups and services at the ek to the many individuals who are homeless or who lack access to regular healthcare services. Catholic charities provides case management services to older adults who are in danger of premature placement in nursing facilities. Case managers are mobile and travel to clients' homes when needed. This achieves a higher comfort level for the older adult client and assists case managers in ensuring that vulnerable clients are living in safe environments. In fiscal year 2017, a total number of 14,216 unduplicated clients were served through the community support services program. catholic charities' pregnancy and parenting support services provides a hybrid model of counseling, case management, and material support for individuals and families. Services are provided to women experiencing crisis pregnancies; first time parents; and grandparents and/or caregivers needing refresher training on raising children. Clients develop a service plan that outlines goals, objectives and action steps which help them keep focused on achieving a greater sense of confidence as parents. Services are available in all counties of the diocese. A satellite office in carbon county provides accessible services to clients unable to travel to the nearest county office. catholic charities provides individual, family, marriage therapy and bereavement counseling to children and adults in the five counties of the diocese of allentown. The program also provides therapeutic supervised visitation (tsv) services for families involved in custodial issues. Services are open to anyone, regardless of faith or ability to pay. Catholic charities has a sliding fee scale that makes counseling accessible to anyone in need. The agency also accepts some insurance plans. The primary goal of counseling is to help clients develop coping strategies to improve their daily functioning. Clinical staff utilizes evidence-based therapeutic interventions to address client needs. Through the utilization of individual treatment plans, clients and therapists identify these areas of need and mutually develop goals and action steps. In fiscal year 2017, catholic charities expanded its counseling services to students at diocesan high schools and two local public elementary schools with one of the highest transient rates in the school district. The expansion of counseling services provided opportunities for students to receive the help they needed to address their emotional and mental health concerns. Services were provided at each location, eliminating the need for students to miss critical learning time in their scheduled classes. Students who wished to continue counseling during school vacations had the option to see their therapists at the nearest catholic charities office. Catholic charities also implemented a new counseling and case management program for survivors of human trafficking. The emotional and material needs of clients, all of whom have suffered significant trauma, are met through compassionate therapeutic and supportive services. A total of 532 clients were seen during the fiscal year. The total number of counseling hours were 1435.
