Causes: Emergency Assistance, Human Services
Mission: The douglas/elbert task force endeavors to meet the immediate needs of residents of douglas and elbert counties who are in financial distress and at risk of becoming homeless, and to help them work through troublesome times with dignity.
Programs: The charity program endeavors to meet the needs of financially distressed families to help them work through troublesome times with dignity. D/etf addresses the immediate needs of those in crisis by consistently providing counseling, food and other necessities for homeless, low income and the working poor people in dougle and elbert counties. Utility assistance: we provide emergency utility assistance (heat, electric, water) to clients. In 2017, we provided 114,159 for 338 unduplicated households of approximately 1,173 people. Food bank: we distributed 1,440,485 in food, hygiene (including diapers) and household supplies (cleaning supplies, pet food, etc. ) from the food bank to approximately 15,696 people. We spent 31,856 on food and food bank supplies (disposable gloves, bags, freezer and storage bags, etc. ) in 2017. Housing assistance: we provide emergency rental assistance up to 250 in order to prevent homelessness, and help clients with security deposits to obtain new living arrangement. We provided 123,978 in assistance in 2017 for 238 households of approximately 680 people. Emergency overnight lodging: we provided 6,510 or 138 night of lodging in emergency lodging for homeless or transient individuals and families. Clothing, household items: we distributed items valued at 194,383 in 2017. Clients may shop for free in the thrift store for clothing, shoes, household items, and furniture.
