In 2014 I was able to visit Cedarville and see the Carter Reservoir Mustangs in person. They are majestic and beautiful animals. Seeing horses in the wild is definitely a different experience than just seeing them in captivity. Since then, I found it really cool that Carter Reservoir Mustangs Inc. is documenting the herd, taking many photos, and advocating for the safety and preservation of the herd. I hope other people will support this non-profit in order to help the heard continue in prosperity and preserve their history.
The level of drive and motivation to preserve this herd is unmatched. The Carters thank you!

At the end of this summer (2023) I was lucky enough to get a chance to accompany Darice on one of her many outings to check on these beautiful horses. We packed a few goodies for our long day and headed out on the 4x4. The surrounding mountains did not disappoint. Darice was snapping photos and giving me directions on what names and marking to log down, and my smile was growing and growing. I own 2 mustangs that have sadly been rounded up from other HMAs and I could not help but feel heartbroken for them as I watched these amazing horses be free where they belong. During the day we documented horses, checked on fresh springs, and fences, and saw various other wildlife. I can't thank Darice enough for letting me tag along and help out. I have been associated with this group for a while now, and have become involved as a member. These horses' unique historic bloodlines make them a poster child for the wild horse world. They cannot be protected enough. The ongoing work that has been done through the years and the hopes for a conservation center is worthy
I've been working behind the scenes with Darice & then CRMI since about 2012 because I so believe in her, in the CRMI mission & in the wild Carter Herd. It's a one-of-a-kind herd that displays the most Spanish-Iberian characteristics than any other wild herd in the U.S. They deserve to be designated a Heritage Herd and to have much of their original historic Bureau of Land Management range in far NE CA legally returned to their use to support a genetically viable herd of at least 200 horses. Getting the word out far & wide & gaining more support nationally is key to their long-term preservation. I appreciate Great Nonprofits for the role they play in this important effort.
I've visited the Carter Reservoir HMA and firmly believe in the work of CRMI, trying to preserve this herd's ancient DNA, as well as the territory and wilderness area where native wild horses have historically thrived in ecological balance.
As a fellow rescue we have worked with Darice for many years saving and helping Carter Reservoir mustangs. This organization is essential to these horses longevity and an organization we wholly support.

Every time I experience the majesty of this very unique herd, with their distinctive primitive dun markings, I am in awe! It is truly a privilege to see these horses in the wild where they belong! We rescued our first Carter Reservoir Mustang in 2006 and many since then. What wonderful horses. We have worked with Darice since then too. This organization is doing what NO other can for these magnificent mustangs and I can't speak highly enough for the extraordinary work Darice has done.
For christmas this year, I was given a trip, anywhere I wanted to go. I chose to go to California to hopefully see the Spanish mustanges in their natural habitate. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and we were unable to cross the mountains. I will attempt another trip when the weather has improved. Our wild horses are treasure for all to see and need to be preserved for future generations. I am afraid their time is running short. Thank you Darice for all your efforts.

I bow my head for the will and durability the nonprofit organization puts in to preserve this herd. Especially in times like this where BLM offers options for herd management which are not fully accepted by the general public.
