Mission: California latinas for reproductive justice (clrj) is a statewide policy and advocacy organization whose mission is to advance california latinas reproductive health and rights within a social justice and human rights framework. Clrj strives to ensure that policy developments are reflective of the priority needs of latinas, their families and their communities.
Programs: Policy advocacy is one of clrjs core strategies and program areas. One of clrjs major core policy goals in 2012 was to ensure that californias most underserved latinas including low-income, undocumented immigrants, lgbtq and young women have access to comprehensive, accurate, and unbiased reproductive and sexual health information and services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate to improve their quality of life and ensure healthy communities.
clrjs youth sexuality programs promote the reproductive health and justice of latina/o youth, ensuring that young latinas have access to comprehensive, accurate, unbiased, culturally and linguistically appropriate reproductive and sexual health information and services, and educational and social supports, in order to have healthy, productive, and economically secure futures. In 2012, clrj went public with its justice for young families initiative which was developed to challenge the dominant frame towards latina/o youth sexuality, account for the inequities experienced by latina/o youth and address the root causes of early parenthood. Clrj also released its justice for young families issues brief supporting latina/o youth: strengthening latina/o young families and communities, highlighting findings from research and focus groups with pregnant and parenting youth.
clrj's latinas empowered for action (lea) project empowers community-based and young latinas with policy advocacy skills to promote policies that positively impact latinas' reproductive health, rights, and justice, while providing them with advocacy opportunities that mobilize our communities to create systemic reproductive justice policy change. In 2012, clrj reached college students, community-based latinas and promotores (community health workers and advocates) through its reproductive justice policy advocacy trainings and other leadership development and spokesperson opportunities.
clrj advanced california latinas reproductive health and rights through its policy and advocacy, policymaker education, and community education and mobilization activities.
