The C Waldo Scott Center services a community in need of attention and educational services. For a nominal fee of $25 a school year, the program provides after school care including a meal for children in elementary through the 8th grade. There is a serious issue with the organization in that the entire staff is under educated with minimal expectations of those they are supporting. If the leadership is still trying to learn technology from the 1990's what are they able to offer children of today? Also, when asked about available funds for a small children's project, it was taken offensively and stated that there would be no funds available. This lead me to review the last tax return filed and available online, it shows over 2/3 of the monies for the center are for the staff and less than $15,000 of an almost $400K budget is actually spent on the children's activities . That is about 3.5% of all proceeds are spent directly on the children. A select group of kids are working towards starting their own project which will require approximately $300 to fund. When they asked for a list of donor's already associated with the center to write them letters to raise money for the project, they were told no because it would interfere with the annual fundraising project. The fundraising that would specifically fund the pockets of the staff, not the well being of the children.
