Good morning,
Thrive has been a blessing with helping me update my resume. Bruce Knight is friendly and very knowledgeable. He assisted me with great interview questions and correct responses as well. Ms Tammy blessed me with knowledge about their financial training classes and other devices available. This organization listens to you, ask the right questions to help you and lead you to the water. When you get to the water I suggest you drink. Thank you for every THRIVE

Thrive Peninsula is the first free grocery store in the Hampton Roads Area for those who need assistance. Customers are greeted when they arrive and provided a shopping cart. They go through the store's produce, dairy, dry goods, and meat sections, picking what they want just as they would at any of the area grocery stores. Family size determines the quantities of each item they can select. At the end of their shopping experience, volunteer staff bags groceries while the customer gets their car. Then, the staff rolls their groceries out to their car. Customers often express their sincere gratitude for their experience.

Thrive also provides financial coaching for those needing assistance building a more sound financial situation. Coaches help them see where their money is going and create a budget, a debt reduction plan, and a plan for building emergency savings. For those who have fallen behind, Thrive provides financial assistance by helping them pay rent or utility bills to get back on sound footing.

The small full-time staff is dedicated to helping their neighbors. They are professional and always cheerful. As a volunteer, I find working with such wonderful people an honor. The expression of thanks from the customers and clients is overwhelming. This is a charity worth supporting.

Thrive has been a great organization for many years with a strong commitment to serving the community. I’ve known of them when they were Debigh United and I worked for Salvation Army in Hampton. These orgs are doing great work for the Peninsula and will benefit those who need them most for many years to come.

Thrive Peninsula is a great Nonprofit organization in Newport News, Virginia. I have had the opportunity to witness some of the great services provided by Thrive. Donating food items to their food pantry is an amazing procedure from dropping off can goods, fresh vegetables, and health need items, and watch how they are received to putting them on the shelves for the clients.

My greatness help has been connecting with their - Project Connect Coordinator, Barbara. She has gone above and beyond helping me with a client. Barbara has listened to her needs, getting needed personal information from her to helping get needed paperwork. I have nothing but praise for Thrive of Newport News,

I did not originally know about Thrive until I ran into some financial difficulties and my apartment manager referred me to these kind folks. They not only helped me, with open arms, financially, but invited me to shop in their grocery, even though I was receiving snap, and we all know that is not enough. I was taken aback at how eager and helpful everyone was from the case workers to the volunteers in the grocery. This truly was a blessed experience and these people don't just talk a good game they deliver. I want to take this opportunity to thank them again, and urgently ask if you are considering helping any charity. That you make THRIVE a priority, your friend DG

I have been volunteering at Thrive for about three years. I initially visited Thrive to support a friend that was making a donation and was immediately impressed by the people at Thrive and the dedication they had to serving the needs of our community. I had heard goods things about the organization from members of our church and supported Thrive through giving at church but did not fully understand their mission I asked for tour of their operation, and this confirmed my initial impression. This is a well-run organization, with great staff and volunteers that are dedicated to helping people in need throughout our community. It is an organization does not judge or put requirements in front of people but just wants to help people in need. Over the last tree years my initial impression continues to be confirmed and I strongly support Thrive’s mission and their approach to filling needs in our community. I continue to be impressed with the leadership, staff, and volunteers of the organization and am proud that they let me be part of helping fulfill their mission.

THRIVE is an incredible organization that is doing such amazing work in the community. Everyone that works there is friendly, knowledgeable, and welcomes each guest as family. My exposure to THRIVE even inspired me to use my business to help raise money and food donations for them. I can't say enough good things about their mission, their location, and especially the staff and volunteers that work there.

As a retired minister I was looking for another ministry with which to be involved. My congregation had been active in volunteering for Thrive on many levels, so I joined in! I have never seen a nonprofit more empathetic and compassionate than Thrive! The volunteers are many and phenomenal! The clients are welcomed with open arms and the worry of receiving groceries or financial help is alleviated within moments! I am so proud to be a part of this “Thriving” organization! Rev. Dr. Terrye Williams.

Thrive Peninsula has been of great help to me and my children and I appreciate that we have organizations like these. Mrs. Tammy Petty was also a tower of strength as she even gave me some tips to follow so that I won’t fall back in this situation. She went above and beyond and I want to tell her a special thank you publicly, Thank you Mrs. Petty!

I began volunteering at Thrive after hearing about the wonderful work they were doing and I couldn't be happier that I did. I have never met another group of people so dedicated to helping others as this bunch. Thrive provides quite a bit in the way of excellent financial coaching and assistance to a food pantry filled with packers eager to stuff bags with nutritious foods, but the secret ingredients to this great nonprofit are the care and compassion given by staff and volunteers. There is a real excitement inside the building that lets me know that our goal is the same -- help the community in the best way we can. I hope to see this incredible nonprofit grow for years to come.

Recently, I began my journey as a volunteer at Thrive, and the experience has been absolutely wonderful. The organization's commitment to giving back to the community in numerous ways resonates deeply with me. Moreover, the genuine compassion displayed by the staff towards our community has truly won my heart.

This fulfilling experience has not only sparked a desire to continue volunteering at Thrive but has also motivated me to explore potential partnerships between our company and Thrive. Together, we can make a significant impact on our community, and the thought of that brings me immense joy. Witnessing how many lives Thrive touches every day is truly heartwarming.

I have been serving as a volunteer Financial Coach to low-income families with THRIVE for the past 3 1/2 years. Prior to this I worked in a business/sales/financial career for over 30 years. I have been overly impressed of how this organization provides so much with so little. They somehow get the highest quality and committed volunteers to carry out their mission. The people they serve are overly grateful for what they receive.
I started a Christmas Program through THRIVE in 2020 to serve the children of the families that were economically challenged. The staff, other volunteers and Board have been so supportive to make this program a reality. We have provided a joyous Christmas to over 1100 children in 3 years.
The financial coaching (which I do weekly as a volunteer), along with the financial services and the food pantry are a lifeline for hope for hundreds of families in our community. THRIVE is the most efficient non-profit organization I have ever been involved with, and I have had many in my 69 years.

I have been associated with THRIVE for many years in many different ways. I have personally seen the lives impacted through their services in a positive and life changing way. I have always been amazed at the empathy and friendliness of the staff and volunteers towards the clients. But most of all, everyone who seeks/receives services from THRIVE is treated with dignity which allows those served to feel "human". THRIVE lives the commandants of "do unto others...." and "love your neighbor....".

Thrive meets the needs of those who are in need and helps them map a way forward so they aren't dependent on hand-outs in the future.
The leadership and volunteers are all top notch and their mission supports an overwhelming need in the community. Thrive offers food support, legal advice, interviewing techniques and many more services that are desperately needed by those looking to better their lives.

I have been receiving help from THRIVE on and off for about 1 year. They never forget a face! It really does feel like home when you walk through the door and everyone is just so eager to help. The pantry is always a go to and full of nutritional and kid friendly foods that my daughter loves. They even provided a contact to me through a local church when I needed truck repairs for my old SUV I had (free of cost!). The person that helped replaced my brakes & rotors! The truck was on it last leg but it survived longer than thought till I was financially ready to purchase a better vehicle. The financial coaching has been a breath of fresh air since I started working at my new job and just trying ESTABLISH a budget and keep it going. I can't wait to keep doing my monthly check ins to update Mrs. Tammy on my progress. All the ladies in that building are amazing and I always recommend the NN office to anyone I come in contact with, that just needs a little pick me up.

I cannot think of another organization more worth to benefit from financial support.

THRIVE Peninsula is a remarkable non-profit charity organization that helps all kinds of people who are going through tough times. I first learned about THRIVE when they came and gave a presentation at our church. What impressed me was their holistic approach to addressing people's needs which included food distribution, financial aide and financial counseling to help these individuals to be able to make it on their own rather than being eternally dependent upon others. They don't limit themselves to specific activities but address peoples needs where they are at. This included providing bus passes and bicycles for those with transportation needs. During the COVID pandemic, they appealed for volunteers to help deliver food, etc. to those who were quarantined and/or did not have a means of transportation to pick up food at the THRIVE facility. I saw this as an opportunity for me to be involved and help others less fortunate. To date, I have made over 140 deliveries and have enjoyed every minute of it. It has been a "labor of love" and has helped me to more fully appreciate how I have been blessed in live.

Angela York, the staff and the other volunteers are always friendly and the reviews from recipients of their aide constantly comment about how respectfully they are treated. For many people, accepting aide can be a humbling experience and it is important to respect everyones dignity which all of the folks at THRIVE strive to do.

Thrive is one of the best nonprofit organizations that I have the pleasure of being a part of. This nonprofit goes well beyond what is required of them by ensuring that every client is treated with the utmost dignity and respect, even when clients are difficult, they still manage to meet their needs effectively. The clients are always thanking Thrive for the service it provides and very thankful for all that it does for the community. If it was not for the dedicated staff and hard work of the volunteers Thrive would not be able to help those that just need a helping hand.

I've volunteered for THRIVE Peninsula for many years and throughout these years I've have seen what compassionate giving looks like. Each family that comes to THRIVE Peninsula is unique in their needs and the staff and volunteers seek to find out what those specific needs are and then strive to meet them with respect and compassion.

THRIVE Peninsula is transforming lives daily through its ministry. In 6 years volunteering there as a budget coach, I have sat with so many people facing one financial emergency after another. They can only find part-time work, they lost their full-time job because their car broke down, they work reduced hours because they don't have any help with their children.

Unexpected costs quickly become an emergency in these households. THRIVE steps in through its food pantry, budget coaching, and rent and utility assistance - to give these families a hand UP - to get their footing back on solid ground.

Being part of THRIVE Peninsula's mission has changed my life, too. It is in giving that we receive, and volunteering at THRIVE Peninsula is a great example of that type of 'gift.'

I couldn't be more proud of the staff and volunteers who make the miracles at THRIVE Peninsula happen! Thousands of volunteer hours, partnerships with over 70 Churches, and local businesses makes this organization a true community partner. Food from the pantry, emergency financial assistance and financial counseling are what they do, but it's the love of the community that shines bright!

I have served as a volunteer and/or a board member since 2000 and I have witnessed many families being helped by this organization. The people are so grateful to receive food and financial help through budget counseling and/or monetary help. I have witnessed the joy on a mother's face when we delivered a sofa or bunk beds to their home when they had no other furniture. This organization does so much to help these families get back on their feet and learn to take care of themselves and their families again.

Thrive Peninsula is more than just a building where assistance in different forms can be found.
It's a staff of friendly, caring, compassionate people with a true desire to make a difference in our community.

I am disabled, early 60s and when I had to move and had no friends or family in the area to help me with food, Thrive was there for me and helped me get back on my feet.
I now enjoy giving back as a volunteer for the food pantry and in this way helping others in my new community.

Thank you, Thrive Peninsula!

Kathy E.
