Mission: Bric presents programs in contemporary art, performing arts, and video that reflect the creativity and diversity of brooklyn. Bric also advances and nurtures emerging voices and works-in-progress by local artists and media makers. Bric supports open access to arts and media by making programs available without charge or at very low cost, through education and public programs, and by enabling and amplifying individual and community voices.
Programs: Bric is the new york emmy award-winning public access television organization for brooklyn, new york. We offer low-cost media production classes and free access to television production facilities. We air community-produced "free speech" content on our cable network, and in-house content focused on brooklyn. In 2017, there were about 8,800 separate uses of our community media equipment and studios and about 2,200 shows submitted for airing on public access television. Approximately 9,000 people attended free or low-cost classes in our adult education program at bric and at the brooklyn public library branches. In addition, bric tv produced about 590 hours of programming about brooklyn.
bric performing arts programs include presentation of music, dance, theater and film, and support for the development of new work. In the year ending 6/30/17, the flagship bric celebrate brooklyn! Festival presented a summer-long season of free performances to audiences of 160,000 in prospect park. We also drew 9,962 attendees to our music, dance and theater performances at bric house.
bric contemporary art programs include exhibitions, public events and an innovative arts education program at our 3000 square foot gallery at bric house and around the borough. Our aim is to increase the visibility throughout bric house and accessibility of contemporary art while bridging the gap between the art world and global culture in brooklyn. Bric had 12,580 visitors to our contemporary art gallery in 2017, and about 4,500 students participated in our school-based art education program and activities in 30 schools, 5 community centers and bric house.
in addition to our core programs, bric house is an accessible destination for art, performance, media, and educational programs for artists and audiences. Overall visits for bric house was over 100,000 in 2017, and 8,320 audience members enjoyed our interdisciplinary events including free family programs, stoop series, and film events throughout the year.
