Mission: The mission of the austin chamber music center is to nurture and expand the knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of chamber music through education and performance.
Programs: The austin chamber music festival takes place each summer. The 2013 festival featured three weeks of chamber music concerts and lectures showcasing local, national, and international musicians. The festival lectures and concerts were attended by students from the workshop. (see line 4b of this page) 36 artists gave thirteen formal concerts. Four of the concerts had free admission and took place in community centers and an assisted living center. Ten lecture performances featured 34 artists. The total audience was 4,960. The goal of the festival was to provide entertainment and education for the audience members.
the austin chamber music workshop takes place each summer. The 2013 workshop enrolled 49 students in the young artists division and 35 students in the primary division (21 students were enrolled for half days; 14 enrolled for full days). 29 adults were in the adult division. 31 teachers, including a resident quartet led the classes. In addition to the regular faculty, 30 other visiting artists enhanced the curriculum, giving masterclasses, presentations, and chamber music coaching sessions. The core curriculum each day included chamber music coaching, enrichment classes in rhythm, improvisation, music appreciation, and composition; and a large ensemble. The workshop concluded with 10 student concerts, including 2 in community centers, and 3 in assisted living centers. The goals of the classes were to enhance the students' knowledge and love of chamber music. 1,135 audience members heard the performances.
the austin chamber music academy provided chamber music instruction for musicians of all ages. The september to may classes included saturday classes for young artists. These students met weekly for chamber music coaching and theory and/or composition classes. Master classes and four final performances, including two in assisted living centers, were part of the program each semester. 55 students participated and were taught and coached by 12 teachers. 13 students received tuition forgiveness to participate in the program. The academy also provided in-school coaching for band and orchestra students in four schools. Each school had a final performance each semester. The program reached 100 students, 9 teachers were involved. An adult division of the academy provided four 1. 5 hour coachings for each ensemble each semester. Other activities for the adults each semester included a masterclass and two final concerts, one of which was at an assisted living center. 25 adults enrolled and were taught by 5 teachers. Total attendance at student concerts was 1307.
other program service was the regular season of concerts. The performance season took place between september and may. Free concerts included 84 outreach concerts given in underserved areas, including 70 concerts in 31 schools. 38 of the school performances were in 15 schools with a title 1 designation, and one concert was for adults with impaired intellectual abilities who reside at the austin state supported living center. Goals of the outreach presentations were to introduce young and/or unsophisticated audiences to chamber music. 42 different artists received compensation for these concerts. The audience totaled 5,187. The austin chamber music center also gave 10 concerts with paid admission. The goal of these concerts was to provide high quality classical music and to increase awareness of acmc's educational programs by showcasing student groups at the beginning of the concerts. 11 professional artists performed. The audience totaled 1,492.
