Mission: To provide enhanced opportunities for all citizens of bergen and passaic counties with intellectual and other disabilities and their families through advocacy, community education, direct services, and customized supports to help these individuals attain and maintain fulfilled and independent status within their own communities and to initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of disability whenever possible.
Programs: Residential services:this program provides group homes and supervised apartments, supported living programs, and independent living programs. Group homes and supervised apartments provide 24 hour support, training in daily livings skills, social opportunities and community integration. Supported living provides services tailored to individual needs either in the family home or the individual's own apartment. Independent living supports individuals in their own home/apartment with case management and skill training. Over 160 individuals were served.
adult training services:full-time day programming was provided for over 150 individuals. Training is offered in the areas of personal awareness, daily living skills and work habilitation. Social and community activities and transportation are provided. The program also offers individuals the opportunity to receive janitorial training utilizing actual commercial and domestic settings for on the job custodial experiences. Small crews work with a supervisor at a variety of sites, and are paid for work while receiving skill training.
early intervention program:infant/toddler services: the child center serves over 120 children from birth to three years of age who have mental, physical or sensory delays or disabilities. Evaluation and assessment as well as speech, physical and occupational therapy, social and cognitive development, and communication services are available. Counseling and support are also provided for parents and siblings. Transitional services are provided to assist children in transferring to preschool programs. Our time classes are being held for children ages 20-36 months receiving early intervention services. The small groups meet weekly and are staffed by two teachers and a speech therapist. The classes focus on separation, socialization and language skills. A parent/caretaker support group, facilitated by a social worker, runs simultaneously. Intact: a specialized program of training, counseling and case management provides support and assistance with child rearing for individuals with disabilities who are also parents.
