I am a proud supporter of Animal Guardians Horse Rescue. The entire group works as a team, supporting horses others have given up on. It is a pleasure to see such dedication and care from the group. Each member makes the organization run smoothly, with care and love for the horses they rescue. They are truly a wonderful nonprofit.
I have been volunteering with AGHR for about 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. I have always wanted to work with horses but I didn't know where to go or where to start. When the opportunity came to me to work with a rescue I jumped at the chance. Deborah, the founder, is so passionate about her rescue and the horses. I have learned so much from her. She will bend over backwards for anyone or any horse that needs her. I am honored to be a part of this amazing organizatiion.
I have been a donor to AGHR for some time now….I am also a good friend of one the sponsors/boarder’s to this fabulous organization. I can attest to the compassion, caring and hard work put in by all members and volunteers. It is truly inspiring what they accomplish for these abused, sick and aging horses.
I do wish I could put in some volunteer work myself, but have a very busy work and personal schedule that prevents it. So, I do the next best thing and donate MONEY, which is very much needed and truly appreciated by everyone involved at AGHR. Keep up the GREAT WORK and THANK YOU for all you do!
I have been a volunteer with AGHR for almost six months now, along with my husband, we spend time with several rescue horses caring for them, grooming and now re-training one of them.
I had relatively little experience in the care of horses prior to volunteering with AGHR, I was an experienced rider, but now thru volunteering and with that came mentoring from the Founder Deborah, who is one of the most “horse-knowledgeable” people I have ever met, and hands on training, videos, and also attending charity events aimed at saving horses, I can honestly say I am comfortable handling, grooming, feeding, and caring for these beautiful horses who have had more than their share of harsh treatment in their lives.
Deborah goes out of her way to make sure her “rescues” will find a forever home, I am very happy to be associated with Animal Guardian Horse Rescue, I think I get as much out of it as the horses.
I am a volunteer at AGHR. My wife and I joined the rescue several months ago. We had very little horse experience aside from stable riding and attending horse shows. Since volunteering, we have been trained how to handle, feed and groom the horses through mentoring, hands on, video trainings and attending the events.
We have witnessed firsthand the compassion and support the directors, members/volunteers, boarders and donors who provide care and funds for the horses. Everyone one involved with the rescue are very friendly, knowledgeable and show a great concern for the health and well-being of the horses.
AGHR mainly deals in older, abused horses, allowing them to live out their lives being “pampered” so to speak…which I feel makes for a great cause that is definitely needed.
A special thank you to Deborah for her dedication and constant involvement with all aspects of the organization, it couldn’t run this well without you.
I look forward to providing many years of volunteer service to AGHR.
AGHR is a run and operated by people who truly care and care to do their best. Placing elderly and sick horses into loving care, with gentle and safe volunteers is not as easy as it should be but is done so here with tenacity and great passion. As a volunteer I am very impressed with not only the care of the horses, but the interest in the development of the volunteers as well. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to be more involved with horses, either as a volunteer or donor.
Thank you very much for your input JK. We sincerely appreciate your time in doing so. Thanks so much for volunteering, and for recognizing the challenges that are faced in dealing with horses with special needs. We really appreciate your support and your help in volunteering with us!
i would like to give a SHOUT OUT to the founders, members and volunteers of Animal Guardians Horse Rescue! They have consistently worked so hard to rescue and protect horses with a variety of special needs. They work non-stop to provide the best for these animals in so many different ways. They always are putting the horses first...above anything else. I am pleased to be involved with such a dedicated team.
Deborah and ANIMAL GUARDIANS HORSE RESCUE have a true concern and a kind heart for all of her rescued horses. She makes sure all of the animals are comfortable and well fed in their new homes. Her dedication for these magnificent animals has given many a new lease on LIFE and can be seen in the demeanor of the horses...THEY KNOW THAT THE ARE LOVED...I have seen this myself as I have cared for them over the years. The change is dramatic! I will continue to be a friend of the Rescue forever......
I am a donor to this organization, which does wonderful work with some of the most needy of God's creatures: the sick, the aged, abused, and unwanted horses. AGHR volunteers and donors tirelessly care for and help heal as many as they can, placing them in Forever Homes when possible.
Deborah and her Band of Angels have intervened to rescue many from suffering and death in the short time I have been a donor. I only wish I could give more.
Barbara, we love you and you give SO much to our sweet old horses. We appreciate all you do and are so grateful for your friendship and support.
I began volunteering with Animal Guardians Horse Rescue 6 months ago. It is an amazing organization. The trainings are informative even if you are an experienced horse person. The people are generous and kind. These older horses have a lot of love to give. I've witness the miracles that a group of people can do to help a horse that came to the rescue frightened, distrusting and seemingly unmanageable become social and responsive. She even comes to her name when called. This nonprofit tells every contributor/donor where every dollar goes in helping the horses. If you love horses and live in the Simi Valley/Conejo Valley/ San Fernando Valley area, this maybe the organization you want to be a part of whether through volunteering or donations. The horses will be exceedingly grateful, and your life will be enriched tenfold.
Thank you Angel. Your help, time, input, and care to our horses is extremely appreciated. We are very grateful for all of your hard work and feel blessed to have you on board!
Animal Guardians Horse Rescue was a wonderful rescue to work with. The other members/volunteers have all been so generous, warm, tender and kind, and so much love and care goes into the horses. The horses are well cared for and loved. My experience was all positive with Animal Guardians Horse Rescue, and I strongly recommend it for anyone who is interested in volunteering with these magnificent creatures, Animal Guardians Horse Rescue is the place. Being a volunteer with this rescue is one of the most amazing, beautiful and rewarding experiences I've ever had.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support Lisa. We miss you and feel blessed to have had you in our rescue family for so many years! This photo of our oldy Sienna, with you at her boarding stable really brings tears to my eyes. She was very loved by you and all of the volunteers until the end. Your support and friendship is very meaningful and we sincerely appreciate it!
God bless this rescue for saving animals in need. We need more people in the world like these people. My rescue is brand new and just starting up here on the east coast. Far too many people sending their horses to slaughter. It's got to stop. Thank God for the small organizations like ours. Not everyone can do what we do. I admire them. Thanks for sharing on this website.
Thank you. God bless you for the rescue work you do with the NC slaughter pipeline. We appreciate your support and wholeheartedly send our love to your organization as well. Good luck!
Hello readers. I am a professional equine hauler going from northern to southern Cal on a regular basis and I have helped haul rescue horses for this organization on a number of occasions. I have never gone wrong in doing business with these folks. They are very courteous, and have always asked questions, communicated clearly their needs for their horses, and paid with no hassle. Many of the horses this rescue saves are coming from the L.A. County shelters and are going to be put to sleep. They raise funds, pull these horses out, and send them with me, safely to partner sanctuaries in Mt. Shasta, Fresno, and Hemet. I really admire how this rescue does this because not too many others do. These guys really go the extra mile to help horses in need. I've been hired by a lot of people to do a lot of runs. But picking up from Animal Guardians is always one of my favorite things to do. They don't ask me to discount anything and never give me the run around. These folks are top notch and I would never hesitate to haul a horse for them. Thanks for all you do guys! You should be proud. Good to do business with you.
Thank you so much for your input and positive review. We love doing business with you too. We wish all trailers were easy to load and people were easy to work with! Thanks for your help with our equine angels!
I have been dealing directly with this rescue for several years in a professional relationship. I am a hay and feed dealer. I find them to be courteous, professional, always pay on time every time, and want what's in the best interest of their animals. They always say thank you and help promote our business in the community. We appreciate that. This is a great organization to work with.
Thank you. We have been so happy working with you guys. We look forward to our next outreach event with you!
I find Animal Guardians Horse Rescue, Inc. to be an excellent organization. Protecting the animals is their primary concern and they do everything possible to uphold the belief that the horses deserve all. They are pleasant and easy to work with, I admire the board members and all their efforts.
Thank you for your time and input in writing this positive review. We sincerely appreciate it.
I had the worst experience with the founder of the organization. I don't generally seek out places to write bad reviews, but this one is just awful. She's pushy, egotistical, self-centered, and just plain unpleasant to be around. Ahe literally told me I must not be a very generous person simply because I told her I wasnt interested in donating to her rescue at the time. First, she came up to me and interrupted my conversation - I did not petition her for information. Then she proceeded to force her pamphlet onto me, even though I said I wasnt interested. Then she insulted me when I said I was not interested in donating. Awful, miserable woman! If i could give 0 stars I would.
We hear that you were displeased with your interaction with the founder of the rescue. We would like to know what event this happened at and would be more than happy to discuss this reported incident with you face to face to resolve your issue. Our founder does not always attend our outreach events, and our volunteers are trained not to solicit funds from the public. Donations are always welcome, but never pushed upon the public. Thank you for expressing your concern about an incident you had with one of our volunteers.
As always, we encourage public supporters to come and meet us for themselves and make an opinion about our organization before making a donation or becoming involved. We always encourage people to meet with us face to face in the community and come to meet our horses. All complaints are welcomed face to face and dealt with constructively and productively. We encourage countrygrl to speak with our Board of Directors at our next meeting on June 24. The general public is encouraged to develop an opinion about and rapport with our rescue staff by personally meeting us and expressing concerns. We have addressed our founder about this and there is no recollection of meeting anyone at a public event, interrupting a conversation and pushing for a donation. That is simply not our rescue's style. This post seems to be written by a disgruntled former volunteer or someone not in agreement with our rescue, for personal vengance or some other reason unknown to our organization. Thank you.
This "non-profit" is completely bogus! The person in charge is dishonest - using funds from the non-profit for personal use and claiming a personal horse as a rescue to get donations for their cost of their death. Her "training" techniques are closer to abuse: whipping, throwing halters at their faces, and backing horses into oncoming traffic when they dont want to load. Volunteers get no training to actually deal with the horses and are expected to hold her personal horse/mini horse at events she attends while she annoys the general public and forces the rescue onto them. She refuses to accept no for an answer when asking for donations, instead insulting people saying they're not true animal lovers for not donating. She abuses volunteers, promising them one thing and then renigging on the agreed upon deal. She is constantly searching for the least expensive way to do things instead of the right way, often causing the horses to panic and/or be injured. She abuses her vendors, again often backing out of an agreed upon price for services AFTER the service has already been performed. Public beware of this organization!!
We are sorry to hear that this post writer is so disgruntled and angry. We are happy to discuss issues from the public face to face. None of the report in this review is true. We consider this post to be uncalled for slander and libel.
As always, we encourage members of the public to form their own personal opinion about our rescue organization and Directors by personally meeting with us face to face. Anonymous207 and countrygrl are encouraged to attend our next Board Meeting and express their concerns to have our Board members hear their complaints and resolve their issues. These posts are publishing false and slanderous information, and are not true by any means. The public and our supporters are encouraged to attend our outreach events and see for themselves how we interact with the public and how we demonstrate horse husbandry skills using our miniature horse mascot, Dream Catcher, for petting zoo displays, and sometimes demonstrate other rescue horses and BLM Mustangs for educational outreach. The public and our supporters are more than welcome to speak with our Directors face to face about any questions or concerns they may have.
This publisher has no basis for this post. The founder of this organization does not own a personal horse. The miniature horse used by this organization is a ranch horse, and is taken to events for educational outreach purposes. No volunteers are ever forced to do anything in this organization. The founder of this organization does not solicit funds from the public. This can be directly accounted for by multiple witnesses at outreach & fundraising events. Volunteers are given extensive training using the Forever Foundation Training program, as is documented on our website and facebook page, and on www.hsusforeverfoundation.org. No member of this organization has ever, nor will ever, abuse, hit, or injure a rescue horse for any reason whatsoever, as is cause for dismissal from the organization and may be just cause for due negligence. The person who posted this review was paid $200 to haul a rescue mule, Zoey, who refused to load, so the rescue hired another pro hauler with a larger rig
I have had the pleasure of serving as a volunteer, Board Member, trainer, sponsor, and now foster caregiver, with this fantastic organization. I can see it's a labor of love, but the horses we save with special needs, and even the dog saved, all directly reap the rewards of our efforts. This organization is small, but strong, and with such big hearts, we work together to make life better for "throw away" animals that no one else will take a chance on. Animal Guardians Horse Rescue is a great place to call "home". I highly recommend this rescue for sponsorship, donations, volunteering, foster care, & adoption. All around, I give it a 5-star rating for outstanding significance!
Thank you for this positive review. We appreciate your input and time.
Over the past 9 years, we have been working with this rescue program, from the ground up. We have dedicated numerous hours and dollars to improving the quality of lives of rescued "unadoptable" equines throughout the state of CA. We are proud to have over 25 adopters who still love us, communicate with us regularly, keep us informed & involved with their adopted equines' lives, and serve as rescue family members. We are proud to have been a part of the very difficult task of placing horses with special needs into forever loving homes, and saving them from unecessary euthanasia, abandonment, & abuse. AGHR has given us inspiration to grow into a community therapy program for battered women and foster children in need. We develop, learn, and expand a little bit each day. Our success is largely due to our fantastic small group of sponsors, volunteers, donors, & boarding stable owners, who help us to help our horses. This organization is a huge task to take on, but it is so worth it. Our horses are better loved & cared for, and because of AGHR, the world is a little bit of a better place.
Thank you for this positive review. We appreciate your input and time.
I learned about or got introduced to Animal Guardians Horse Rescue (AGHR) through an article in our Bridlepath Newsletter. I have several dog and cat rescue pets myself and thought it would even neater to expand that to the horse world.
I went to the Bridlepath event and met the Director/Founder, Deborah Greene-Dellvon and found out more information. I signed up on the Volunteer clipboard and wondered how long it would be before I truly became “active.” Less than 24 hrs later, I received a call from Deborah regarding an abandoned mare who was blind.
I met the mare and arrangements were made to transport this horse to my barn. Taking care of a horse with special needs taught my kids and myself a lot about compassion, caring, and love. It was rewarding to give this horse a good life and home before her passing.
I have helped AGHR with other horses that had different backgrounds and stories: a paint mare who had suffered a nail in the hoof and was nervous about her feet being handled and another Senior Mare who had skin issues. My experience with AGHR has been phenomenal both with horses on my property as well as off. I would highly recommend working with them. Any donations and contributed funds would help them rescue more horses and take care of their needs which is often a challenging job time wise, emotionally, and financially.
Thank you for this positive review. We appreciate your input and time.
AGHR found a lovely older gelding at the animal shelter. He had a big arthritic knee so most likely not rideable and hadn’t been adopted. Deborah had been talking about him with me. On the day before the shelter was to euthanize him I committed to adoption. AGHR found a private home for him to stay. He was my first horse and they helped me through learning about feed etc. until I was able to find a stable near my home. They kept in touch and followed our progress. We had a wonderful life until age took him from me.
Thank you for your positive review. We appreciate your input and time. We are very grateful for your love, support, and faith in our organization and faith in the beautiful old horse you had adopted. We miss him dearly and are so very appreciative of the loving home you gave him until the end. We love you.
AGHR found an old quarter horse at the Aguora shelter named Donatello. He had been starved and was confiscated with others. He could not be ridden due to a huge arthritic knee. AGHR had been following him and volunteering at the shelter. We had been keeping in touch about how to help him. The day before he was to be put down they said they would help me because he would be my first horse. They found a home who would initially keep him and help me for the first three months. He was the most special, well trained boy and we lucked into a small trail riding barn where boarders not only rode but had horse walks on the trails followed by potlucks. They welcomed us with open arms. He taught me so many things and I loved him for four years. He is now running free over the rainbow bridge.
We miss Donatello and will always love him. We are so grateful that you came into his life and that you supported our rescue endeavors until the end. We love you.
