Helped me rescue the last horse in the Agora animal shelter. They helped me every step of the way until I could find a stable close to me. Supported me the entire time I gave him a home. Without them I would never have realized my life long dream to love my own horse. Just an outstanding organization all the way around.

I wanted a horse my whole life. I was introduced to AGHR by way of a post to rescue a horse who had been shot in the face with a BB gun. After participating in this rescue I began to donate monthly for hay. Not too long after they were networking horses at the Aguora, CA shelter. There was only one left at the shelter and they were going to put him down. With their help finding a place for him initially and helping me learn to rehabilitate him I took him to a stable near me. We had 4 happy years together. He couldn’t be ridden due to an arthritic knee so I took lessons at the stable and bought a riding horse. I’m thankful to them for saving horses and helping me live my dream

I adopted a senior horse Donatello from AGHR. They found a temporary foster home where I could participate in his care and learn about what he needed until I could find my own boarding stable. It was a great experience with plenty of help and support from them.

AGHR found a lovely older gelding at the animal shelter. He had a big arthritic knee so most likely not rideable and hadn’t been adopted. Deborah had been talking about him with me. On the day before the shelter was to euthanize him I committed to adoption. AGHR found a private home for him to stay. He was my first horse and they helped me through learning about feed etc. until I was able to find a stable near my home. They kept in touch and followed our progress. We had a wonderful life until age took him from me.

AGHR found an old quarter horse at the Aguora shelter named Donatello. He had been starved and was confiscated with others. He could not be ridden due to a huge arthritic knee. AGHR had been following him and volunteering at the shelter. We had been keeping in touch about how to help him. The day before he was to be put down they said they would help me because he would be my first horse. They found a home who would initially keep him and help me for the first three months. He was the most special, well trained boy and we lucked into a small trail riding barn where boarders not only rode but had horse walks on the trails followed by potlucks. They welcomed us with open arms. He taught me so many things and I loved him for four years. He is now running free over the rainbow bridge.

This group takes excellent care of their horses and makes adopting a good experience. They are very compassionate. I adopted an older horse with a terribly large arthritic front knee. He wasn't being adopted out of the Agora shelter because it was pretty clear he wouldn't be rideable. He is a fantastically well finished horse who is mannerly and kind. They helped me with him before he came to my small boarding stable. We walk the trails with other boarders and even go horse camping.

Fantastic non-profit takes in horses no one else wants. Some find a retirement home and some can still work with people to help with disabilities. Several wonderful programs are in place to help children and adults. This is a life time home for the horses who come here.
