Mission: The african american arts alliance of chicago is a not for profit professional arts service organization which includes theaters, dance, music, literature, visual arts groups and individual artists. The purpose of the african american alliance is to increase public awareness, interaction, communication and development of african american arts organizations and artists within the city of chicago. The alliance was organized to promote growth and foster the development of programs that increase visibility, marketability, and stability of african american arts organizations and artists. The alliance is a primary source of technical assistance and cultural education. We also exist to advocate that multiple black art disciplines represent and depict those themes and lifestyles that can help contribute to positive development of the african american community and reach out to a diverse audience
Programs: The alliance produced 4 development workshops for its members. Workshops covered the basic steps in financial management, marketing, social media and fundraising. There were also two town hall meetings focused on organizational development and business management as an individual artist. Marketing events included black arts month, the jazz brunch and the black excellence awards. More than 2000 people benefited from the workshops and town hall meetings. Our membership received exposure through our black arts month events.
This not for profit organization is a very valuable asset to the Chicago African American Arts community.
They have been highly instrumental in providing resources to artists in the areas of theater, dance, music, film and literature. They are also strong advocates in working with the city of Chicago helping them to understand the cultural impact and importance of the arts to the city.
