I had emailed to have my dog put down because I cannot afford it and got an email back from Kathy McGuire telling me to call or email another person and they would put me in touch with the vet well I did email that person and they never got back to me so I turned around an email Kathy McGuire again I let her know that person did not get back to me. I get a phone call at 7:30 at night from Kathy yelling for me that I should have called not emailed and then before she hung up the phone she was very rude and had some nasty stuff to say so I would never recommend using this organization if it's ran by A miserable woman like that

We found Chesney via the internet photo posted by NJ Aid for Animals. An older dog who had a hard life and was battling heart worm after abandonment. His history was a mystery for us. Part blood hound part chocolate Labrador. He had the lab coat and ears and food drive. The rest was bloodhound! He could bark, bloodhounds are talkers. And when we walked he was scenting. He had a beautiful bloodhound gait and while he would chase a ball all day; He didn’t retrieve. He found it and let us know to come get it. We got lots of low impact aerobic exercise! He loved the water too, and was happy to give up his ball to the younger quicker fetchers. In fact the only time he brought the ball back, was in the water. Always the gentleman Chesney would walk away to shake off water. Kathy Mcguire nursed Chesney along until we found him. She was diligent in determining if we had a safe home and would provide Chesney with the life he deserved. Luckily we complied with a fenced in yard and open beaches and trails for long walks and fetching. Chesney was an ambassador of calmness to other dogs and people if all ages. Everybody wanted to pet his luxurious thick silky chocolate coat. Aggressive dogs would calm down when he ignored them then fall into his trail of good will. We had five and a half wonderful years, three road trips from NJ to Ventura california. Chesney was a hit wherever we went. If it wasn’t for NJ Aid for Animals we would have missed the best dog in the world. Over and over we said to each other, how could anyone abandon Chesney?

We had been looking for a dog for about a year. It seemed the ones that were listed out of state would not let us adopt because we lived “out of state”! Silly, but we soldiered on. I saw our CiCi’s picture and she melted my heart. However, she was located about 3 hours away and of course in another state.

I applied anyway. Kathy called me the next day and did a lengthy phone interview. She asked if we were willing to come to her sanctuary. Of course we were. A few days later, my husband & I drove to meet CiCi. She was amazingly excited to meet us. We took her for a walk and chatted for awhile with Kathy. We were instantly in love with that little girl. She didn’t have any hair from the middle of her back to her tail. She had been infested with fleas and scratched and chewed herself until NJ Aid for Animals came to her rescue. Cathy said they weren’t sure if she had been spade, so we would need to wait until she was checked and about a 10 day recuperating time, therefore we would need to come back to adopt her. No problem with that! We would have gone to the moon to get her!

On November 4, 2017 we adopted our adorable little girl and she has brought us nothing but joy!

We have Kathy McGuire and her wonderful organization to thank! We also want to thank Eileen Boyle for fostering CiCi during recovery from surgery! The people and this organization are angels! They not only rescue animals but they check on their well being after the adoption is complete. We still get messages from Kathy asking about our little girl! That’s amazing!

With much love and thanks,
Will & Cindy Shelley

I have adopted 2 puppies from NJAFA and I know if it weren’t for the fast action and dedication taken by the Founder and President, Kathy McGuire, they most likely would have suffered a horrible life. Selena, my first puppy adopted through NJAFA, was bred from an illegal backyard breeder. She was only about 6 weeks old and weighed less than a pound when NJAFA rescued her. She was so tiny, she had to be bottle fed around the clock and was so infested with fleas, her ears were bloody and scabbed causing infection which could have compromised her immune system and cause death. Thanks to the relentlessness of NJAFA, Kathy McGuire, took legal action to stop another illegal breeder.
My most recent adoption from NJAFA, is a special needs puppy named, Paddington. Kathy was leaving the vets office after a medical visit for a cat that she rescued when she heard a woman complaining about what to do with her puppy. Kathy turned to her and offered to help with medical costs but when the woman took the puppy out of his crate, Kathy couldn’t believe what she was seeing. The puppy suffered from double elbow luxation. Furthermore, he was undernourished and was apparently crated for long periods of time. He didn’t have enough strength to walk on the pads on his front feet so he walked on his wrists. That led to the infection in both dewclaws. After Kathy explained the medical treatment that was needed, the owner surrendered him to NJAFA. NJAFA quickly got Paddington seen by different Orthopedic Surgeon Specialist’s for their opinion to see if surgery was an option for him. After getting X-rays and an MRI, all of the Dr.’s concluded that surgery was not an option for him, there was no guarantee that if the surgery was performed that it would be successful. Once his dewclaws were healed enough, NJAFA enrolled Paddington to Puppy Class, in which he graduated. The Dr.’s all agreed that PT would be most beneficial treatment for him, so NJAFA got him into a PT program where he did water therapy and laser therapy. Once he was cleared from all of his medical needs, we were finally able to bring our baby home where he is flourishing & loved by his parent and his 3 sisters. NJAFA paid for all of his medical expenses. NJAFA also has a fabulous group of volunteers along with the greatest foster mom ever, Eileen Boyle. This nonprofit sponsors benefits and rely’s on donations. NJAFA also offers free vaccine clinics, provides educational material on proper care of pets and hosts benefits throughout the year. Founder and President of NJAFA, Kathy McGuire, is very thorough when placing an animal in a permanent home. She is the biggest advocate for animals I know. She also has a large Corp of Advocates working with her to help as many animals as possible.

NJAFA is an integral part of ensuring that animals in the South Jersey area, including the city of Camden, are treated fairly, have a voice, and have options that they would otherwise not have if it weren't for this dedicated group of people. I have volunteered for NJAFA for over 12 years and there isn't a more valiant group of volunteers who have come together for one of the most important causes in our area.

Nj Aid For Animals (NjAFA) is an organization that truly cares about the welfare of animals. The founder, Kathy McGuire, continuously looks for opportunities to provide education about caring for pets and animals that need to be rescued. NjAFA depends on many volunteers to achieve the goal of the organization's message of advocacy, action, impact through scheduled and special events that highlight the rights of animals. NjAFA works with volunteers from multiple professional and career fields such as medical, legal, law enforcement, animal food and toy products to provide the voice that is needed for animals. NjAFA actively searches for caring people to help in the rescue process that includes locating potential animals, transporting, housing, feeding, donations and adoption. NjAFA is an animal rescue organization that is passionate and compassionate about the health, welfare and care of animals in need of being rescued from a myriad of unacceptable treatment situations.

I am proud to contribute my services as Counsel and member of the Board of NJ Aid for Animals which makes a significant contribution to promoting responsible pet ownership and to combatting cruelty and neglect as it affects the vulnerable animals placed in our care. From sponsoring free spay neutering to arranging foster placement for animals which would otherwise be abandoned, NJ Aid for Animals fulfills a critical role in underserved communities,

New Jersey Aid for Animals helps animals in places other organizations don't go, won't go, or refuse to go. In a state with pathetic animal outreach and anti cruelty laws and follow up, NJAFA goes in and goes back until the situation is successfully resolved. They are responsive, proactive, and unafraid to do what is right for animals living in bad situations. NJAFA's competent presence, advocacy, and record keeping forces prosecutors to treat animal cruelty and neglect as the crime it is.

I have been volunteering for NJ Aid for Animals for over a dozen years, fostering many of the dogs that they have rescued, but also working at their fundraising events, vaccine clinics, and for several years serving as a board member.

Founder and President Kathy McGuire provides stellar and hands-on leadership, ensuring that the utmost integrity and attention-to-detail is imbued into every event, given to every animal rescued, and every dollar spent.

NJAFA is the most thorough, dedicated, comprehensive and compassionate animal welfare organization that I have ever supported. I look forward to many more years serving to fulfill their mission of Advocacy. Action. Impact.

NJ Aid for Animals (NJAFA) embodies what a nonprofit should be. The president and founder has selflessly never taken a salary. Operating expenses are kept low so that the majority of a donation goes to the actual cause, and money is managed well to ensure reserves, donation flow, and grant procurement. The Board of Directors and Advisory Board are comprised of a diverse group of professionals and community leaders that assist the president and founder in making decisions regarding the strategic direction of the organization. The volunteer base is equally as diverse but also fiercely loyal because of the magnetic leadership of the president and founder. The mission of the organization is something that everyone can get behind - advocacy, action, impact. NJAFA differentiates itself in a saturated field of animal charities by empowering communities and pet owners with resources and education, by providing expertise on policy for local and state legislative bodies, and by creating a network to ethically and efficiently get things done related to animal welfare. Donors and volunteers can give their money and time with confidence because of the transparent and ethical operation of this grassroots organization. There is something for everyone, and all are welcome. I am proud to be associated with this nonprofit.

NJ Aid for Animals is an efficient and transparent organization - it emphasizes education and problem-solving over free handouts for pet owners. The President and Founder is a truly selfless, passionate, ethical, and educated individual. Even with a small budget and no salaried positions, the organization touches thousands of animals' lives each year in Camden, NJ and the surrounding areas.

This is a great organization headed by a passionate team! They make a big impact on an underserved community, and keep a high percentage of donations going directly to helping animals, instead of overhead.

NJ Aid for Animals, Inc. is celebrating its tenth year. I had volunteered for numerous area charities when I learned about its work. NJ Aid for Animals stands out in rescue and outreach in the poorest areas, especially Camden, NJ. One glance at its 990 describes how effectively it budgets limited funds without any government aid and an all-volunteer effort, including its founder. This charity holds events where it provides free vaccinations for parvovirus for Camden City resident's animals. I've read many newspaper accounts of how it brings attention to animals in urban settings and promotes spay-neuter services. It answers urgent calls for help in neglect cases and follows abuse cases that cross its path. Just a great regional nonprofit, worthy of recognition and support.
