We found Chesney via the internet photo posted by NJ Aid for Animals. An older dog who had a hard life and was battling heart worm after abandonment. His history was a mystery for us. Part blood hound part chocolate Labrador. He had the lab coat and ears and food drive. The rest was bloodhound! He could bark, bloodhounds are talkers. And when we walked he was scenting. He had a beautiful bloodhound gait and while he would chase a ball all day; He didn’t retrieve. He found it and let us know to come get it. We got lots of low impact aerobic exercise! He loved the water too, and was happy to give up his ball to the younger quicker fetchers. In fact the only time he brought the ball back, was in the water. Always the gentleman Chesney would walk away to shake off water. Kathy Mcguire nursed Chesney along until we found him. She was diligent in determining if we had a safe home and would provide Chesney with the life he deserved. Luckily we complied with a fenced in yard and open beaches and trails for long walks and fetching. Chesney was an ambassador of calmness to other dogs and people if all ages. Everybody wanted to pet his luxurious thick silky chocolate coat. Aggressive dogs would calm down when he ignored them then fall into his trail of good will. We had five and a half wonderful years, three road trips from NJ to Ventura california. Chesney was a hit wherever we went. If it wasn’t for NJ Aid for Animals we would have missed the best dog in the world. Over and over we said to each other, how could anyone abandon Chesney?
